Not happy. Pizza was un-eatable. The dough didn't rise - they knew it and did nothing to remedy the situation. Not good customer service.

I ordered 2 pies for delivery. I was told it would take 45 minutes. After 45 minutes the pizza wasn't delivered. I called and they told me that the driver hadn't returned from a prior delivery. I said should I just come pick it up? They told me yes. I got to the pizzeria had to wait 10 minutes to be served. I was given the two pies they were kept on top of the oven but were lukewarm at best. I've been to this place multiple times. Never had a problem. I always picked up my food. The guy behind the counter apologized but honestly an apology wasn't cutting it for this. I really felt that they should had offered a discount. This is the first time I asked for delivery and honestly it will be the last. If I return to this establishment I would only do a pickup. read more

Please don't order delivery from here, if you want the pizza just go to them. I waited 3 hours today for cold pizza from a drunk delivery person. It was a very uncomfortable experience for me. Old guy with white hair at the counter charged my son $8.00 for two slices of pizza. My son has difficulty with writing, and when the old guy saw my son's signature on the receipt, he said "looks like a 4th grader wrote this." Matese makes my favorite mushroom pies in Queens! They've nailed the perfect balance of buttery flavor, salty cheese, and tomato sauce acidity without slices getting too oily. Crust is a bit on the thicker side, which personally isn't my preference, but tastes great nonetheless. They're my go-to when I'm spontaneously craving beef patties with pepperoni, too, since they're so close to where I live. My only complaint is the older guy behind the counter that makes pervy and off-color jokes towards female customers. read more

I had a Groupon for four and placed a takeout order. The portions are huge and my chicken cutlet parmigiana was delicious as were the mozzarella sticks. The pasta with marinara was standard fare. Four sodas (cups) was also included. My family enjoyed the chicken pizzaoila and baked filet of sole. Fresh Italian bread was included. Their regular prices are fair considering their huge portions. Do not be fooled by photos or idea it is a regular pizza joint. This place packed a powerful punch soon to explain why. Used a groupon and was expecting downsized portions - especially when ordering take out. The sale on groupon was absolutely worth it. The seafood pasta came out to be beyond fabulous. Flavors with italian style were there and the portions were bjg. Surprised. That is why this review will call for 5-stars and then some! Seafood was fresh; pasta was great. The stuffed mushrooms had sauce and flavor - great with bread. The other side dishes were fine. For the groupon deal, it was worth it. But because it delivered beyond expectations, will be going back even without the groupon. What a treat for this neighborhood to hold a hidden gem. This place seems like more of a take-out place as we were the only customers but it could also be that we were there at an odd time and chose to sit down and eat. Our server was very courteous and we almost felt like we had booked the whole restaurant for ourselves. He made recommendations and food was brought quickly. The portions are huge, food fresh and delicious and price reasonable. We had a ton of leftovers which we used for lunch the next day. We enjoyed our meal here. read more

Came here for only the 2nd time earlier today & they are even better. I had the Spinach slice, 2 regulars & a deep dish slice. Deep dish had a great crust & cheese was flavorful. The regular ones I liked too, perfect crisp to it & the cheese was very fresh. The spinach slice was my favorite. Not too salty & not too heavy with super fresh spinach. I think my photo of the shrimp scampi will say enough on its own, but I'll leave some words anyway. I just laughed when I opened up the shrimp scampi. A few cooked shrimp on top of a bed of spaghetti. No sauce, just spaghetti. Btw, I asked for linguini but whatever. Odered lunch from Matese today. We ordered regular slices, chicken marsala slices and penne vodka slices. As an appetizer we ordered stuffed mushrooms. Delivery was very quick but what made us the happiest was that the food was actually hot! Mushrooms were delicious. We all sampled the different slices and we liked each of them, so tasty! While visiting a girlfriend we decided to place an order for pickup. We ordered fried calamari and a grandma pie. I'm salivating as I write this review. We squeezed the slices of lemon wedges across the fresh calamari as we pushed away the legs and dug in. The batter was light and airy making our taste buds dance in delight as we chowed down on the delicious seafood. The marinara sauce was good but should've been on the thicker side. Also the sauce was small in comparison to the huge portion we received. The grandma pie was out of this world. Each bite melted in our mouths as we burned our tongues eating like wild animals. I have been ordering from Matese for many years now and their prices are amazing...especially if you take advantage of their Groupon. Their pizza and pasta dishes are pretty good. I would say their pizza pie is better than their specialty pasta dishes. By specialty, I mean a dish that requires more work/technique, like with veal in it. If I were to order their specialty pasta, I would request more garlic or not order any. Instead, I would order their "common" or basic dishes like chicken parm or penne alla vodka ... if you know basic cooking skills, you can't mess those dishes up. read more

been eating here for a long time through multiple owners. guys are nice as this has been a problem in the past. food was better years ago although passable. pizzas a little thick but cheese and sauce make up for it. specials are a nice surprise. prices have gone up as every other store. the surcharge and container fee, not even mentioned is a no go for me. they should be thankful for the loyal customers that continue to support them. at least be honest about the fees. too many good italian restaurants and take out within a mile from you. could use a nice cleaning as well, looking rather dated. read more

I have only GREAT WORDS for Matese Pizzeria. Not only is the food excellent but the customer service is outstanding. I needed a catering order for an event. I spoke to Joe. He was accommodating, courteous, & helpful. Delivery was punctual & the delivery person was helpful setting up the heating trays. Other times I've gone into the store for personal orders. I've ordered multiple dishes & pizza. All good. Also, Mark, behind the counter, is a hoot. Funny, engaging & quick to serve you. These are traits that are missing in today's retail environment. My first time eating here or rather ordering from here. My regret is not ordering from here sooner. Just the most scrumptious Italian comfort food you could ever ask for. I had their veggie panini. Take out food was ok not the best i've had for italian food. Fra diablo, chicken parm, chicken francese, eggplant parm and skirt steak. Fra diablo was sorta spicy, spicy er than other places i've ordered from so that was a plus and shrimp. Eggplant parm was ok i don't usually order this but my dad wanted it. My brother said the chicken parm was light breaded and fried which was nice. Chicken francese was decent too hoped it was a little more lemony. Definitely wouldn't suggest the skirt steak though my dad wanted to try something different. It looked good cane with onions and arugula but it wasn't that tender. read more

I ordered through Grubhub for the first time a few days ago. It was an early Sunday morning and Matese was the only pizza spot that was open. I ordered the following: Large special pie: the crust/dough was undercooked, garlic overload and also partly raw. Lobster Bisque: it was warm at best and had a serious frozen after taste--lets be real, it wasn't homemade. House salad: wilted iceberg lettuce and had a huge inner wedge piece in it so, it was 1/3 less of a salad i would've gotten plus, the "lemon vinaigrette" was essentially rancid, red wine vinegar. Beef patty: it's just heating up a frozen patty -- nothing wrong there. I notified GH and told them I was extremely unhappy with my service. With tax and tip it came out to $49.00--i completely overpaid for mediocre pizza, at best. The manager of the restaurant refused to do a redelivery or even offer a partial refund. I've never sent back food nor have I ever try to cheat my way through a free meal. You lost a genuine customer who's probably tried every pizza spot in Flyshing at least 5 times. My son loves pizza so I find myself ordering it at least 4 times a month. I dont want my review to put you in ruins, just want the manager to open his eyes and provide a good customer experience as you're a neighborhood spot and we live in the neighborhood!
