Pichudo has quickly become my new favorite happy hour spot in Mission Valley. Their happy hour runs EVERY DAY from 2-6 PM, and the best part is that the entire food and drink menu is 50% off. That's incredibly rare to find these days, especially with the quality they're serving. One thing I appreciate is that they don't use seed oils. It's not necessarily a deal breaker for me, but it's definitely a nice touch. My favorite taco is the Pichudo taco with Wagyu beef. The meat is incredibly tender, and the fresh tortilla and guacamole make it a huge upgrade over your typical carne asada taco. My second favorites are the pork belly and shrimp tacos. They definitely don't skimp on the protein, and both are packed with flavor thanks to their excellent sauces. Even though it's a Mexican restaurant, don't overlook the Pichudo burger. I decided to try it, and it was surprisingly good--something I'd gladly order again on a future visit. They recently updated their drink menu, so I haven't worked my way through all the new options yet, but that's just another reason I'm excited to come back. Honestly, everything I've tried here has been excellent. The atmosphere is also a big part of the appeal. The space has a modern, lively vibe that's perfect for meeting friends after work, grabbing drinks, or just enjoying a relaxed afternoon. It feels energetic without being overly loud, making it easy to hang out and enjoy your meal. One thing to keep in mind: during happy hour, the place gets busy. There are usually only a couple of servers and a small kitchen staff working, so food and drinks can take a little longer than usual. Saw reviewers talking about how this place serves the most healthy & cleanest Mexican food options in San Diego so I had to try it. We started with the Pichudo nachos which I did think were very good. Topped it off with a Spicy Sandia margarita. For our food we tried the Baja fish taco & Shrimp chichulo taco. I thought it was good but not really over the top. Prices were high. They also do have a Happy Hour which I didn't make it too. Staff were not very attentive. Took a long time to take our order, and deliver our food. Didn't once ask if we needed a refill. Not sure if they were distracted because I was there during a FIFA game but really there weren't many people even in the restaurant. Parking is off to the side very limited spaces. My friend saw their big Happy Hour banner from the freeway and wanted to go check this place out. So glad that we went. Everything on the menu, food and drinks, was 50% off from 2-6pm! We started off with their coconut margaritas. Such a deal and delicious too. The taco trio was my favorite, especially the shrimp and the pork belly tacos. We also enjoyed the ahi ceviche, guacamole, and el pastor taco. There is limited seating inside but there's a large outdoor patio with lots of seating. We sat outside. The freeway was very close by but those noise wasn't bad. We ordered from the counter inside first before seating ourselves out on the patio and that might have messed them up because our food and drinks were forgotten for a bit. Pichudo Mexican Grill is a bit of a hidden gem in Mission Valley. The customer service was friendly and welcoming, which made for a pleasant experience. The tacos were decent, but nothing particularly memorable. The biggest disappointment was the churros. Came here after seeing a posting on Instagram. We didn't make happy hour but it looks like some great pricing and offers. I was most excited to see what the beef tallow tortilla chips were all about. We started with the pork belly nachos. The pork belly itself was really good, but the portion size for $18 was not that big, plus the cheese and topping ratio was majorly lacking. Dining here was such a pleasure, and I honestly don't regret the food coma after going all out. The service was incredibly accommodating, and the ambience made the whole experience even better. We ordered everything from drinks and appetizers to entrées, desserts, and coffee, and every single thing we tried was delicious. BAJA BOWL ($14) - Cilantro lime rice, black beans, shredded romaine, shishito peppers, red onions, Oaxaca cheese, mango pico, roasted corn, and chipotle aioli sauce. The protein I picked was PORK BELLY. I did NOT like their Pork Belly, it had a sweet glaze which took away the true savory and salty flavor of pork belly. Also, pork belly is delicious as is, no need to change it up. The cilantro lime rice was average. The black beans texture was a little hard and felt could be cooked a little more, the pico was ok, and the best thing in this bowl was the salad at the bottom with chunks of roasted corn. Honest review of the tacos. I ordered a few tacos and while they looked premium they did not taste premium. First taco was cold with a soggy tortilla, ripping a hole from the start. It's hard to judge food when it's cold. Second taco, also on the warm side, had incredibly spice salsa. I eat hot sauce all of the time but this was a little extreme. I think while the blue corn tortillas are meant to give that premium experience , I think they take away from the overall taste. Too many odd flavors with the tacos. Heard about this new spot in Mission Valley and decided to try it out. Super convenient for those that live in the apartments right above and happy that they have a public parking for those that don't. They have a very nice outdoor area complete with fire pits and an outdoor/Indoor bar, also a few small tables inside. I think this would be a great place to come in the summer and hang out outside. This may be because they are new but it seemed like they didn't have enough people working which made service a bit slow. From the kitchen viewing window it looked like there was only one person making the food. But the food itself was pretty good - I ordered the taco trio of shrimp, chicken and pork belly. Shes hella health-conscious don't mess with processed stuff, sugar, or seed oils so when we found out they use quality meat and don't cook with no seed oils? Bruh, that's already a W. We both went with the grass-fed Wagyu Taco, and I swear, you can taste the difference. That meat was tender, juicy, and straight up flavorful. I like the fish in the fish taco - but I felt it needed more salsa and there isn't any salsa bar. The fish chucks were decent in size. The pork belly option was nice. So, if you staying in the Hotel Circle area in Mission Valley, or reside in the area and beyond, this place is a great Mexican Grill to check out for great eats and libations. Pichudo Mexican Grill is offering contemporary Oaxacan food and local regional Mexican eats. That being said, I tried the surf and turf burrito, which came generously filled with Mexican Gulf Wild caught shrimp and grass-fed steak, house rice, fresh pico de gallo, Oaxacan cheese and guacamole with a lime aioli for $20. It's a large burrito and perfect for sharing. The burrito came with a side of house fried tortilla chips and your choice of salsa. The surf and turf burrito was delicious. The wild gulf shrimp were succulent and very flavorful. I learned that they are sauteed in garlic and olive oil. By the way, they use NO seed oils at this location. The grass fed skirt steak was very good, too. It was very tender and well seasoned. I loved the red chile rice in the burrito. It delicious and very well made, with its loose consistency. Both, the guacamole and pico were fresh and tasty. The flour tortilla is smartly placed on the hot griddle to not only toast up the exterior of the tortilla, but to also firm it up for ease of handling. The service was very friendly. They are located at the Alexan Gallerie Luxury Apartment Complex and offer free parking. Look for the signs designated for "Pichudo" as you pull in the parking lot at the south entrance. The ground level of the Alexan Gallerie Apartment Complex in Mission Valley has two recently opened businesses with an organic market, Camino Farms, and a modern Mexican grill, Pichudo. The latter is a fast casual eatery equipped with an outdoor patio and fire pits. The setup is great for tenants who now have an onsite hangout spot. I used a visitor parking space on the south side of the complex during my visit. Both the market and the grill have a focus on organic ingredients without the use of seed oils. It was certainly reflected in the soft opening menu prices in which everything was $10 and above. I expressed my concern about the cost of the tacos with so much local competition. Only at the higher end hotels and a few of the bougie Mexican restaurants will you find ten-dollar tacos. I can see charging 10 to 20 percent more because of the premium quality, but not at fifty percent higher. To their credit, it appears that management has listened, and all of the tacos except the wagyu beef variety have been reduced to $9 each. The Baja Sunset Salad was my choice as I couldn't justify paying for a regular size taco. The ingredients were shredded romaine lettuce, mixed greens, red beans, diced Roma tomatoes, pickled red onions, Mexican cheese, mango, pico de gallo, sliced jalapeños, crunchy Inca corn, chopped cilantro, guacamole, passionfruit vinaigrette, cotija cheese, and chipotle aioli. A choice of protein was included. My selection was the grass-fed steak (carne asada) versus salmon, chicken, or carnitas. The mix had a nice contrast of textures and flavors. The location on Camino De La Reina was a bit obscure as the property appeared on a bend of the curved road. Most of the customers will likely work or live nearby. I hope they can draw those who are attracted to high quality items with no regard to pricing. My experience at Pichudo Mexican Grill was between three and four stars. read more

Our server was only on his second day and working alone; while I felt for him, the service suffered significantly. It took 40 minutes for drinks and starters to arrive, and we weren't given napkins or utensils. The food quality was also disappointing: the carne asada fries were cold, and the aguachile was served without chips. When we finally spoke to another server about the delays, the response was dismissive, blaming the "happy hour rush" even though the restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived. I really wanted to like Pichudo, but the experience was frustrating. We came in on a Monday evening around 6 PM, and it took about 40 minutes to get our food. We ordered a salad and a Baja bowl, both were okay, but also dishes that don't typically take long to put together, which made the wait even more disappointing. It seemed like they were very understaffed. There was only one server/bartender and one cook handling everything. To be fair, the server was doing his best and holding it down, so props to him. Things didn't start moving until what looked like a manager stepped in to help in the kitchen, which finally sped things up. I understand places can get busy, but better staffing or preparation would have made a big difference.
