Went to Oculto last night and it was a pretty good experience overall, but definitely a few things worth noting. It wasn't busy at all, maybe around eight people in the entire place, which made the service timing a bit surprising. The service was very slow. We were seated at 8:30 and didn't get our first drinks until about 8:55. I do understand that their cocktails are very detailed and take time to prepare, but it really felt like they could benefit from having at least two bartenders, especially if the place were to fill up. I can only imagine how long it would take if it were actually busy. The drinks themselves were good, just not anything I'd go out of my way to rave about. Overall, we still had a good time. I just think adding another bartender when it's packed would make a big difference in the overall experience.

I thought the concept of this speakeasy bar was super fun and unique. You start off by squeezing into a catholic church style confessional with your whole party and everyone has to confess a sin that falls within the realm of the seven deadly sins. Then you get seated at an intimate table or the bar, and they do a great job of staying on theme and make sure that attendees do as well (they have an actual rulebook!) I actually don't even partake in alcohol, but their mocktail menu is fantastic and I enjoyed everything I ordered. For my first drink I ordered Humility, which was a "mezcal" pineapple/lemon/ginger drink that was both refreshing and smokey. They did a great job capturing the essence of mezcal! For my second drink I got a DIY creation and the flavor notes I requested were dessert and fruity. This one ended up being my favorite! The best way I can describe it would be a strawberry/pineapple/lemon meringue pie. It had a torched marshmallow top so I got a little bit of it every time I took a sip. This would be a great spot for date night or with an intimate group of friends. It's the kind of place where you take your time and savor the experience, so best planned for a slow night where you don't need to rush off to other plans.

1/23/26: What better way to get your 2026 started than to confessing your sins?! From the start, this speakeasy is an exciting experience! You get a leatherbound book of rules from your host. Heed them well, weary traveler. And get ready for some fun! *No I won't tell you what they are...spoilers!* We merely wanted to enjoy a few cocktails. And now we're in the middle of a choose-your-own-adventure! Walk into the confession booth & choose your deadliest sin as trade to secure entrance to this den of the dead! You're literally next to a cemetery (El Campo Santo). Fear not, as you're welcomed by your elixir expert & ushered to your seat at the bar, booth, or table. My deliciously, devilish dinner companion & I chose a cozy table for 2. And when I say cozy, I mean the couple next to us was practically on a date with us! It lead to some friendly banter & added to the intimate setting. Fare thee well, new friends! Enjoy your exciting 1st date! *that's what we deduced* We are handed a small wooden box with a parchment reminiscent of Captain Jack Sparrow's hidden booty! We dared the Purgatory Classics for our first choices: Tequila.jpg for my cute, curvy companion & Graveyard Shift for my caffeine addicted self. (indulge & add cognac for a little extra shiver in your timbers). The Deadly Sins section will have to wait until next time. I see you, Envy. Dealer's Choice is the reason to even visit. Our Procurer of Potions asked several questions to tailor our drinks to match our adventurous spirits. We paid homage to our ancestors & chose mezcal & tequila inspired drinks. Go for the Luxury option & your taste buds will thank you. Overall, a palate pleasing potpourri of paranormal potions! Say that after a few drinks fast! TL:DR Cleanse your soul with a little firewater.

What an amazing experience. We went here the day after our wedding with a few friends that were in town to celebrate with us. The host found out it was our wedding and brought champagne to our table on the house. The bartender was awesome. I cannot remember his name, but he was very laid-back and personable. Most of us chose dealers choice for our drinks and he listened to what we were interested in and created cocktails that we all loved. He also found out it was our wedding weekend and that I was a big fan of Mezcal. He brought a round of shots for the table and his favorite bottle of Mezcal for me to try. I would definitely take friends back here again when they come to town. Probably the best speakeasy experience I've had in San Diego.

Occulto 477 actually feels like a secret. From the creative entry process, the whole experience is fun! Once inside, the ambiance is dark, moody, and perfectly eerie--like a cemetery speakeasy that Dracula himself would hang out in. The staff were incredibly kind and personable--super chill. I went for a Dealer's Choice and it did not disappoint. They really nailed my flavor preferences, crafting something balanced, unique, and strong enough to keep the vibe going. The "Gluttony" was another standout--rich, layered, and visually stunning. My only small gripe was the loud group next to us; the space is cozy, so shouting kind of breaks the spell. Still, it's a one-of-a-kind experience I'd definitely come back for (hopefully with quieter neighbors next time).

Located in Old Town San Diego. This is the mysterious speakeasy situated next to (not under) a 1800s cemetery. The entrance is at Tehona Bar. To enter you must confess your sins. That aside, the cocktails were amazing. We were able to down 2 drinks in an hour. There is a two drink minimum and a time limit. Do make a reservation because there were probably about 5 tables and bar seating inside, an occupancy load of 24 total at any one time. The vibe, ambience and service were great for our date night. We squeezed this in before visiting Whaley house.

Ambiance 5/5 Service 4.5/5 Drinks 5/5 The vibes were exactly what we were looking for and the drinks were strong. Fairly priced. The 2 drink minimum was pretty much the max since we only get 2 drinks in before our 90 minutes was up. It did take a long time to make the drinks, especially since it's so tiny in there but that's our only complaint. Overall, had a great time and would recommend for a spooky, good time.

Very fun speakeasy experience. You have to "confess" to one of the seven deadly sins, or anything you'd like, in order to enter. It's a very small area, so they have a time limit, but they don't enforce it unless they have another reservation. The bartender was very nice and had good recommendations. The drinks are good, though very expensive of course. Points for style! It is dark and can get pretty smoky since a lot of people order the smoked drinks, which are pretty and a bit of a show.

    Specialty drinks.

If you like tequila, well I had the perfect place for you. But that's only if you're willing to confess your sins to get in. Talk about an amazing speakeasy. Nestled in the corners of a cemetery in old town, they captured all the vibes.

    Rule book
    Myphuong L.

Out of all the speakeasy I've been to, this would be my least favorite. They have rules you must read and agree to before entering. Took us two months to get a reservation for 6. We got seated at the booth. It's really dark inside and one of the rules says you can't use your camera flash. Instead, there's a battery operated fake candle light. Two drink minimum per person. We each got something different and we passed the drinks clockwise for everyone to sample. Therefore, we each sampled 12 drinks. Out of the 12, we agreed on a few favorites and we all have different palate yet we agreed on the same. Two of them were dealers choice where you customize your own. Envy and Pride were refreshing. Sloth tasted like an espresso martini. Tsumi tasted like the Asian coconut gelatin dessert. Vod sod was the worst out of all. I'm a light weight and usually drinks at these places hit me quick with a buzz and I'm done on my second. When it doesn't, it makes me think the quality is not there. I'm not a fan of their drinks, didn't find their concept unique except for the rules.

Right down the street from places such as El Agave hides Occulto. Had dinner out front in Tahona and in we came. I had the Santa Muerte and the Zombie - both great. My partner had some smoked creation that you can see in the photos and thought it was great. We'll be back

Before checking this spot out we actually ate at the restaurant this speakeasy is in so we actually knew where it was. I was under the impression that it was located on the other side of Old Town but it's actually on the less busier side of the street which I kind of liked. I actually think we had the last reservation of the night at 10:30pm. We had the max party size of 6 guests. We were asked to wait in the small bar area of the restaurant which has a really cool wall photo op with skulls. There you are handed a leather booklet with the rules of conduct for the speakeasy which I found added a touch of class. The speakeasy itself is super small and intimate. We were seated at the biggest table which was a booth that was electically decorated. Each cocktail was inspired by the 7 deadly sins which made for interesting choices

After tried their version of an espresso martini which was quite good but made with nitro brew and kahlua so a bit on the sweeter side. I had sort of been to Monkeybar several years back when I used Resort Pass to spend a day lounging by the pool. At that time, I had walked up to the bar several times for mimosas, but mainly spent time at the pool rather than in the bar. This time, it was a chilly January evening and we walked in to find that there was a convention at the hotel, so it was pretty packed. The decor was modern, but the bar itself was really just a hotel lobby bar. I was hoping it would have a bit more character. There was a DJ playing, which was cool, but it also was pretty loud making it difficult to catch up with my friend. We struggled as the indoor area was loud and the outdoor area was really cold. The couple of outdoor tables that had fire pits were already taken by convention-goers. Finally, we chose to sit on the outside area of the bar, which was still chilly, but was quiet enough so that we could chat. Anyway, I was a bit hungry, and had been hoping for a salad, but there were none on the menu. We chose to share the edamame hummus. They did have some decent sounding cocktails on the menu, but we were in the mood for wine. We both chose glasses of Malbec. The Malbec was decent, so I had a second glass. Our bartender was friendly, but out hummus was forgotten. After I asked, he expedited our order. I enjoyed the hummus and the variety of veggies. As it got colder, we moved inside when the DJ ended. Parking is free with validation, however mine did not get validated correctly by the bartender. I explained to the parking attendant and he let me go. All in all, it was a decent place to talk with a friend over a glass of wine. I think it would be a nice bar if I were staying in the hotel, but not special enough to make the trip. I do think the atmosphere might be much more lovely on a summer weekend, as sitting outside by the pool would be very nice.

Drinks wise, I got the blueberry bramble as well as the berries & cream (both vodka drinks). they were fantastic, so refreshing. Old fashioned was also top notch! server was wonderful and kind. the ambiance is amazing and is a great spot for a date or cozy evening with friends.
