I was completely satisfied with the sales associate, but when I agreed to the price to sell my vans I was completely at a loss for words. The absolute Mad misguided contractor for the pickup was obviously on drug's. He never communicated with me about anything. He arrived screaming at his female assistant cusing her as if she were an loley animal. After screaming at her he proceeded to rip the rim completely off one van, and cut deep trench s in my yard left rim in his wake. He was a rude out of control disappointment. I eventually realized that I had to attempt to find a human being inside this poor misguided out of control individual. I am a peaceful 58 year old man, suddenly on the brink of violence, reminding him that I could put a stop to the entire transaction. I got threw to him for a minute, I was at that point completely on the edge of a nervous breakdown. My back and shoulders are completely stowed up as a result of pushing my own vehicle in my own yard,to help her. When the vehicle was operational, he didn't want to take the time to jump van, as I already had it hooked up to the jumpbox. He said he had only 20 minutes, and charged $75 per hour. I informed him that I would put a stop to the entire transaction. If he didn't stop screaming and cussing his assistant and me. It was by far the most disgusting,and disappointing, transaction I have personally ever been a part of. I pray for him, for he is on the edge of self destruction. His assistant was scared to death and I was mad as hell. Never Never again, wil I do business with this company, because of the work they contacted out this for lack of a better words rabid animal. Came here on a Sunday shortly before they closed at 6pm. Apparently their hours state they close at 6, but they actually start closing at 5:30 so you cannot go on the yard. Okay well I just came to buy a tire. Nope all the registers are closed so they cannot ring you up. Yet the hours clearly state open until 6 pm. To the business owner or management, if you let your employees off at 6:00 pm, then change your operating business hours to close at 5:30 pm. Retiring your car at this location is painfully slow and the staff is extremely rude. I doubt management would care about the quality of their staff since the vehicle retirement program is basically a government funded program. After arriving, I was immediately directed where to park. After entering the office the younger Hispanic gal immediately begins barking orders at everyone. When others begin asking questions about the process, her response to most of the questions was "because that is the process." Since everyone is required to stay there for 2+ hours while they process your paperwork, everyone must sit in a cramped make shift trailer office. About 15 minutes into the "processing" time, the Hispanic gal and and a Hispanic guy begin speaking badly about the others in Spanish. They complained about the number of people, the paperwork they have to complete and how some didn't follow their instructions, so they were going to punish them by making them wait a really long time before telling them their paperwork can not be processed. The Hispanic gal even disparaged an older gentleman that was attempting to retire his truck. This poor older gentleman's wife was ill and in a convalescent home, but since she was on the title, she had to be present. The gentleman tried to explain she was in a home and could not be present and the gal calls him "tonto" (stupid). The two employees even discussed clocking each other in and out so they could run errands on the clock. Definitely won't retire another car based on this experience. I'd actually rather sell my car on Craigslist and deal with all the scammers than visit this horrible establishment again. read more

I've been coming here since the early '90s. You could say I spent almost every weekend there grabbing parts. For years they were the best deal in town. In the last few years they've sharply increased their prices. You can't buy anything there for less than $10 now. I found a tail light lens for a truck and I brought it to the counter. The guy said $10.99. The same part maybe a year or two went for $6.00. I said that and he took it to his boss and a minute later he said I could have it for $20.99. (!) This time we needed a part for a 1996 Ford ranger, The truck had a full tank of gas but the Gas gauge was showing empty. I looked online at Picknpull.com which showed the Commercial street yard having the year we needed. In fact their was a couple of them on the lot. We loaded up the tools and i drove the mechanic over to the yard. Lots of parking and a Roach Coach cooking up food. I sent the mechanic inside and got something to eat. he came out right about the same time i was done with part in hand. We did not want to mess around so we bought the whole instrument cluster for $50. I quick drive back to the car lot and we plugged it in to see the Gas pointer go right to full. :) Nice. we really love this chain of junkyards. they make it easy to locate a part a car at a fraction of what it normally costs. read more

After working on so many home improvement projects, going to a junkyard kinda feels like I'm going on a picnic. Except there is gravel instead of grass,cars instead of trees and populated by males instead of families. But otherwise it has the same vibe. Overall, it's a great place to chill at only $2 for admission. There was a time when the employees here were less than friendly and I was tempted to ask them what type of stick they are sitting on. But I guess Pick-n-Pull has responded to the customers needs and tossed all the unfriendly employees into the crusher along with the cars that have been stripped bare. Staff is now friendly, helpful and totally chill. For those looking for body parts to bolt on. You can use the Row52 application on their website to see a picture of the car as well as the location. The cars are basically grouped together by make and size I believe. There are portable toilets. But don't expect a pleasant experience. I often wonder what I would do if one of my favorite tools fell into the repository. Carts are available to help you carry your heavy tools and the parts you pull. There are pieces of carpet around the yard you can use to help cushion your knees. There is a sink for washing hands. But the last time I was here, there was only a trickle of water coming out of the faucet. I notice sometimes there are parts pullers who will help you pull parts for money if you don't want to do it yourself. In addition, if you did not anticipate needing a special tool a parts puller may have it and can do that one step for you. Alternatively, just about two miles or less away is an Autozone where you can rent tools for free. If you plan ahead, you can probably go to any auto supply store and rent special purpose tools for free before going to the junkyard. Prices of most items are available online. So you will know what to expect before you go. Bear in mind there is also a core charge for a lot of items. There is also and Admission Tax and Environmental Tax. No cash refunds. read more

Ever since I found out, via an online VIN car history report, that my dad's old bimmer (a 1983 E21 320i) ended up here back in 2009 (where, like all the other cars that end up here, was eventually dismantled and crushed), I always had wanted to stop by here and get an idea of what an auto salvage yard is really like. Today was that day. This place is located on Commercial Street, in a relatively industrial part of San Jose. There is plenty of room to park in their parking lot. There usually is a taco truck outside for you to grab some grub to energize yourself, before you walk through their massive yard in the back and start grabbing any parts that you may need. As you enter through the front building, they have several counters with employees present to assist you and answer your questions. Admission into the yard in the back is $2 per person. The cars are piled up into rows and columns. If you seek a particular make and model, the employees can tell you if they have it in their yard and, if so, where exactly it is (row and column). If you find a particular part that you need and have trouble removing it, there are people available to help you. Bathroom-wise, there is a porta-potty at the end of the right side of the massive yard for you to use. There MIGHT be an actual restroom in the building at the entrance, but I didn't notice one. Once you've found the parts that you want, you go back through the entrance and pay for your parts at the counter. There's a sink for you to wash your hands off once you finish. Overall, for me, coming here and imagining my dad's old bimmer sitting here being torn apart brought back feelings of happiness and sadness. If I had known that the last owner was going to get rid of the car and that it would have ended up in an auto salvage yard like this, then I would have fought tooth and nail to convince my dad not to have sold it after having it for over 20 years. But, alas, time travel is impossible (at least, presently). Get here quickly though, because cars are not here that long. An employee told me how the process works: When a car arrives, its fluids are drained and its battery disconnected and it is placed in the yard for scavengers/customers, like you and me, to come by and "pick and pull" parts that they may need. After roughly two weeks to a month, each car is then removed from the yard and taken to the crusher next door, where it is completely dismantled and crushed and turned into scrap metal. I can only hope that someone else made use of my dad's old bimmer and that parts of the car are out there on the road somewhere in someone else's E21. I shall return. 5 stars all the way read more

Nothing like spending an afternoon at the ole Pick n' Pull. You save money by getting perfectly good parts for a fraction of the cost. Working with your hands and tools is a very empowering feeling. I always feel like I hit a small lottery no one else is playing when I'm able to find a gem amongst the mud. Its great if you own a domestic car, especially a Ford, because this particular location is flooded with late 80s early 90s Fords. I didn't see too many european cars and you're out of luck on the japanese front if you don't own a first/second gen integra or early 90s accord. But I can't hold that against pick n' pull. You're relying on someone throwing away a whole car. When looking for something specific, make sure you bring the right tool, or you'll end up like I did having to make a run to a hardware store hoping the part will still be there when you get back. If you can avoid the rush time between lunch, and get a good parking spot, long lines here all day, I have no idea how so many people refurbish cars, there must be a lucrative business in fixing lemons to sell that is unknown to me as a business model. A lot of non english speaking, so talk slow, walk fast, bring your tools, and prepare for every single thing to be checked, a lot of thievery I am guessing, and securing the business is a primary concern. There are vehicles for sale here, lots of GOOD ones too, that have been rebuilt/refurbished by the on site professionals. I have seen BMW/AUDI here looking practically new with minor blemishes and a few spots of paint missing, there is a window/paint/glass repair shop on the premises, so I can understand how they are a great place to shop, find parts. I've been going to various Pick-n-pulls over the bay area for several years now and the North San Jose pick-n-pull has to be the worst. Not sure what it is about them but their inventory has to be the most beat up out of all the pick-n-pulls I have ever been to. Even cars that just hit the lot are missing their most valuable components or are just down right trashed. I'm not sure how it happens but it seems as if they are getting stuff from other yards that has already been picked at, or perhaps before they put the cars on the yards they rip through the interiors looking for change ruining much of the hard to find vintage pieces. Ive never seen a half way clean car at this one with much worth salvaging from. Today Ive had enough with the yard. I went to pull a transmission and did the job yanking it to only find out that they no longer have any carts. They expected me to carry out the trans in my arms. Not kidding, they said all their carts went missing, and that was that. Needless to say I left the trans on the ground in front of the car and left it. Ill find one at a yard that at least has the cart to take it out of there. Do yourself a favor and find what your looking for at Pick-n-Pull South or Newark. Cleaner inventory, nicer staff and the right equipment to get your parts to your car. read more

I can't begin to enumerate the number of times I've been here digging for parts. They have a pretty good, ever changing cache of vehicles to choose from, mostly Japanese and American. (Not a ton of BMW, VW). Most of the inventory is 1985-2007, but on occasion there is a Gem of an older car around. Most of the vintage stuff gets bought up by specialized wreckers, Pick n Pull gets the rest. Remember: ASK the guy at the MAIN REGISTER to LOOK up your car & part. It will save you $2 (if they don't have it) and a lot of walking. They have all of the cars set up in numbered rows for a reason. Oh, and the taco truck out front is amazing... I swear I'm almost in love with the proprietress as I always leave full and happy. read more

We were dealing with a new employee Kayden. While shopping for wheels we decided to purchase a set of 4 with tires we were told 30 day money back on the wheels. So a week later we called saying they would not work. Again Kayden told us at this point the tires only have a return policy of 3 days. We chalked that up as we should have known and said we would take the loss of the tires and they could have the wheels and tires back but we would only be refunded 220 of the 336. Next day we drove 40 min out and once we got there they told us the only refunds they give is on single wheel. I ask Kayden if he had quote the price of the refund on the wheels. He shrugged his shoulders and he walked away. Manager would not talk to us either. I assume Kayden is new and made a few mistakes but to not even face the fact that we came all the way back out based off his information. I guess if you don't know everything about the process I would say stay away as it has a vibe employees say what they want to get the money out of your hands then run when they said something wrong. read more

You can literally order them online for $25, brand new, in any color or length that you want, without having to walk around in the hot sun to retrieve it. The short story: unskilled service, overpriced, ravaged inventory The long story: Do you price research before going. I expected to get a good deal for the buck but I was mistaken. Went there to find some loose odds and ends for my vehicle. I found a handful of small plastic part that included sun visor clips, small plastic covers for the center console, a dirty broken dashboard cup holder and tray combo, and a positive battery cable. All parts we from a car that was over 20 years old. The woman at the register simple guesses at what to charge for the items. When I took the prices she gave me and compared them to brand new items, half of the items were higher than the new items. And the others made me think I'd rather get new items because the savings was hardly outweighed the benefits of a new product. It's was like 10% off new products, but what your buying are 20 year old weathered parts. At the least 70% off of new parts would be more reasonable, especially since the product is brought to you clean and tested. read more

Their prices are very unreasonable. They charge more than the pick-n-pull on Monterey Hwy. For smaller parts, prices are almost the same as can be found online except someone else has already removed them for you and cleaned them off. They do not properly update their inventory list so don't be surprised if A) the car they say they have online isn't there B) they refuse to refund your entrance fee. Also, if you say at the counter, "Forget it, I don't want this part. I can get it for the same price online in better condition" they will lower the price, but will not mark the part so that you can return it. read more

After my conversations with the staff, they were pretty cool, at least the guys I talked to were. They can be very helpful. their employees fail 100% at the communication to doing their job of collecting vehicles with valuable parts. i attempted, after properly returning the license plates and having the junk title issued by the dmv, to have our 1990 Honda Accord DX be picked up by them for recycling. I first called the N San Jose location who said it was too late in the day and i needed to call their nationwide 800 number, which i did. after explaining to the 800 number all i wanted was for the vehicle to be properly recycled they instructed me to take a photo of the junk title and email it to PNP-CFJCapprovals@picknpull.com and they would contact me back when their wrecker would come pick it up. I waited 24-hours, no response. I tried calling again and was again directed to the 800 number who again directed me to email them... and now 24-hours-later STILL NO RESPONSE!!! What I was expecting was in my initial call to have them schedule a wrecker come get our car and i give them the junk title and they take it away to have salvageable parts taken off that they then resell at 100% pure profit plus siphon out the 5 to 6 gallons of 87octane gas left in the tank before crushing the car into a recycle cube. Instead I got two days of run-around and my car is still in my garage and i now am going to call a different recycling company as these morons do not deserve any of our business! do not attempt to give these fvcknozzles your car! they're not capable or competent enough to come pick it up within 24-hours! read more

I'm not gonna bother saying service sucks, but Jesus, one of the 17 year old employees wouldn't even let me talk to the older employees to haggle. He said "I don't do the haggling, the other guy does" but would refuse to bring him over. They charged me $32 for a damaged, chipped-paint Nissan Altima left side view mirror 2002-2006 with missing screws that costs $25 BRAND NEW on eBay. Sure, you have to repaint it from eBay, but at least you don't get a damaged, dirty, and chipped product with missing things. I did not take the product. This is in regards to the auto buyback program for old cars. The state has worked out a deal with PnP to take old cars. I phoned and had a detailed conversation with the main office to make sure I had all the correct paperwork so that I could get my car in and my $1000.00 out as fast as possible. I arrived with auto and paperwork. The girl at the desk said I did not have the correct forms. I told her that their Sacramento office says that I did. She said she would have to fax them to someone for approval. Meantime I phone the Sac office and ask what's going on and she says that my buyback has been approved - it was approved about 3 weeks earlier. I asked if she would phone the SJ office and tell them. She refused. I walked back into the shed while talking on the phone and told the girl behind the desk that Sac approved my auto. She told me to sit down and be patient. I did. I was not happy, but did not raise my voice. Approval was finally granted at the office. The whole process took 1 hour. My spouse came in a 2nd car to pick me up. She waited too. No one told me it could take this long or I would have had my wife come later. I get the $1000.00 check and the girl says do not deposit it in an ATM, you must take it to a bank. Note "a bank". I take it to my credit union. No dice. The check was filled out in a way that prohibits them from cashing it. I decide to talk to the manager. After a wait in a queue he tells me the same thing. The issue is that they wrote my name over an address that has nothing to do with me. The check is obviously boiler plate with PnP and I cannot believe they have not had this problem before. I phone the Sac office...again. After much discussion and a long hold, they tell me that Wells Fargo should cash the check. Here is the "a bank" gotcha. I phone WF and they say ok as long as I come in with 2 forms of ID. I went to a WF about 2 miles from my bank and got my 1000.00 in cash. All this took 4 x 2 = 8 man hours, a lot of high blood pressure. For PnP's disrespect for my time and rudeness by one of your employees and a check that apparently is not good everywhere, I give you 1 star. read more

We dedicate the labor on what is effectively scrap metal. For some bolts, PNP wanted to charge us $2.00 for each bolt. That is more expensive than Autozone. Also, the inventory has already been picked clean by PNP of the important parts like heads, transmissions, shift knobs, door panels, emissions sensors, etc. Cars are not located as advertised online. Finally, much of the inventory includes vehicles that were long abandoned as shown by the wear and rust. You are paying for the corporate salaries. The national network of independent salvage yards is a better deal. read more
