Pick Up Stix is my choice if I am craving for Americanized Chinese food served by a large chain business. It's far from high quality, but the kitchen makes the orders as they are rung up on the register. That puts it a step up from its larger competitor where the items are cooked in bulk and then placed under a heat lamp. I also like the fact that this place has multiple options with noodles as the base which I prefer over white or fried rice. This Serra Mesa location occupied a corner suite in the Stonecrest Plaza. Parking was plentiful in this section of the lot. The dining area had a similar seating capacity to other Pick Up Stix stores that I have visited. Three menu screens hung above the service counter. The prices have certainly increased as many of the choices used to be less than $10 each which was not the case anymore. I picked two noodle entrees for my order, the Bang Bang Noodles with Chicken and the Drunken Noodles with Shrimp. The first was being promoted on a banner in the middle of the dining room. It featured spicy wok-tossed noodles, creamy sesame sauce, sesame seeds, green onions, and pieces of chicken breast. I found that the sauce impacted the texture of the noodles by making them taste mushier versus al dente. The second item was executed better. Stir fried rice noodles were mixed with red bell peppers, white and green onions, basil, garlic, and a savory sweet and spicy sauce. The substitution of shrimp as a protein cost an extra $1.99 but was worth it for the six pieces. I think you can get more bang for the buck at mom-and-pop spots that make Drunken Noodles. Overall, I gave three stars to Pick Up Stix as a convenient option for takeout Asian fare. read more

I love a quick family meal that is generally affordable in this state age so I go to Pick Up Stix for that exact thing I would say I go three times a year when I don't feel like cooking, but I also don't wanna spend an arm and a leg on delivery I'll stop in here and get the family combo and it always satisfies and we always have a ton of leftovers. I paid 20 bucks for a small portion of the worst orange chicken and lo mien & 3 wontons I have ever had. The service was fine but the food wasn't worth the price . This was a convenient location for us to stop and have lunch and decided to order some of the Thai inspired dishes this time. I was a little uncertain at first because I associate Pick Up Sticks with Chinese food but got it anyways. I ordered the drunken noodles and thai basil cashew, both with chicken. It was decent but tasted a little different from the thai restaurants and it had a little kick to it. The basil chicken was pretty good although I wish it had more chicken in it. Overall I like the concept of fresh food made for you on the spot that is quick and decently priced. However, I do wish they had a combo plate option. I just wanna say that this was our first time at Pick Up Stix, and after the experience, it was definitely worth the price of admission! The service by Abraham and his cook was phenomenal of traditional American Chinese Food. I used to Manage a Chinese Restaurant and I have to say the Fried Rice was on point as an entree, and the Pad Thai was delicious. The icing on the cake was some Chocolate covered fortune cookies. WARNING!!! Read prior to consuming their food! I ordered takeout on 03/25/2025, when I got home and started serving it to my 5 year old I found metal shards in the noodles(from a scouring pad). The shift leader(no manager was available) took my information and started a refund. She also took my name and number so the manager could follow up with me. The next day I called and the manager had no intention on calling me. It was no big deal to him and he could care less(children have died from ingesting metal shards from cleaning pads or brushes). This location needs new management or it will bleed customers til there is no return. A managers responsibility includes proper cleaning practices of his employees (which he fails at), should hold high quality standards for food quality control (which he fails at), and communicating with customers (epic failure). read more

Walked in and wasnt greeted. Instead, the woman named "Kayla" at the counter bypassed me standing in front of her to assist the customer that walked in behind me first. Even after standing in front of her the entire time waiting for her to respond she asked "are you ready to order?" I placed an order for curry chicken and she asked if I want my receipt. I said only if I need it to receive my order. She says again, "do you want your receipt? I am asking you if you want your receipt." I responded. Do I need it to receive my order? She said, "no." so then I said, "no, I guess I don't need it." then the customer that cut in front of me in line came up to me and said sorry. I went in front of you, but I was just getting my order." I responded, " well then it doesn't really sound like you're sorry if you planned on doing it anyway." He responds with vulgar language and walks out repeating F bombs" I looked at Kayla who saw the entire thing happen. I requested a refund for my order as I am not going to sit there after that experience and eat in this restaurant. The manager came over "Abraham" couldn't figure out how to refund my money. And eventually only refunded me $12.49 out of the $13.46 they charged me. There was much more unprofessionalism by Kayla before I walked out. This place gets negative stars. read more

Past two orders were from GrubHub. I've ordered both of their tofu dishes with one other item each, and I find them to be pretty hot and delicious. First I tried was the Thai Coconut Curry tofu dish, just with added chicken and brown rice instead of the white rice, and I thought it tasted good and the added yet mild-to-moderate spice was just enough for me to bear. Though, it isn't something I'd eat every day since I don't consume (slightly) spicy foods that often. The second I just had was the Garlic Tofu (with same modifications as the first one), and I find it most unfortunate that it's more on the sweeter side and I can barely taste any garlic. Either it was missing some garlic, or perhaps the garlic was in the provided sauce. My suggestion at that point is if it's like that in this dish, then it definitely needs more garlic, because the black sauce is the most predominant taste I can pick up--probably overpowering the entire dish. (For a minute there, I thought this was a bunch of teriyaki sauce.) I'm sure it's called "Garlic Tofu" for a pretty specific reason. Another downside, in my opinion, is the cost is rather inflated (as is everything these days), with food portions being also a bit too high. Pick Up Stix is a great place to get food at a not-so-alarmingly high price, but this location is also in a very awkward position where most of the area contains office jobs (including Ruffin Rd). I guess if you're in for a guilty pleasure, then there isn't any particular reason why you shouldn't go to restaurants like this one for such indulgences, but the overshadowing issue is the current weight issue the country has. However, at that point you might as well gripe at the corporate branch about it, and not the restaurant (or "franchisee" in their language). Order accuracy is good. However, with my Garlic Tofu dish was a fortune cookie; unfortunately, both the fortune cookie and the supplied fortune were stale. While stale fortune cookies are not exactly a huge deal, it really does recommend another recheck in their overall stock of food in the restaurant's inventory; stale food usually shows either a very tasteless experience or, in the most extreme case, food poisoning. This is the only time and the issue with the Garlic Tofu dish being totally unbalanced with flavour that I can say that this restaurant only gets 4 out of 5 stars. read more
