The food was delicious for the most part. The salt n' pepper wings were not the best ever eaten in life but would hold up well to any other Asian fried wing offering. The service was good, although we were not greeted at the door. Someone yelled across the room, "put your name on the waitlist." The inside is fairly small with only 5 tables and several more on the patio, but our wait was not more than 10 minutes. The atmosphere was fair. Really enjoyed my visit to Steamy Piggy! I tried a good mix of the menu including the Piggy Bao, Bulgogi Roll, Chili Wontons, Red-Braised Pork Belly, Kawaii Buns, and Galaxy Lemonade. The Piggy Bao was soft and fluffy with rich pork belly, and I really liked how the cabbage and cilantro helped balance everything out. The Bulgogi Roll was probably one of the most unique things I tried the scallion pancake with bulgogi, cabbage, onion, and melted mozzarella almost reminded me of a Korean-style burrito. Now those Chili Wontons were on point! That pork and shrimp filling was really good, but that sweet and spicy chili sauce took it to another level. Alright next up was the Red-Braised Pork Belly which was rich, tender, and super comforting once all that sauce soaked into the rice. For dessert, the Kawaii Buns were almost too cute to eat, but the warm custard filling was actually really good. The Galaxy Lemonade was refreshing and fun to watch change colors after mixing it. A cute place with a cute name! Piggies everywhere even in the dumpling streamers. They are known for their soup dumplings and baos as well as their kawaii pig buns with custard inside. The soup dumplings did lack a bit of soup (haha pretty much just dry) and the pineapple fried rice was a bit salty but the custard pig buns were good. The only minus was that I was looking forward to getting the piggy birthday plushie for my birthday and did not get it because the reservation on the Google doc needs to be made 48 hours in advance, which in my opinion should've been advertised better in the restaurant. My friends and I met up at Steamy Piggy for a small get-together, and it was a great spot to catch up. We had a party of 10 and were seated on the patio. Three of us arrived about 40 minutes before everyone else, and the staff was kind enough to seat us while we waited for the rest of our group. This place gets pretty busy, so I'd recommend arriving between 4:00-5:00 PM if you want to avoid a long wait. We came during Happy Hour (3:00-6:00 PM), which was a great deal since we were able to try several dishes at half price. Unfortunately, we were so hungry that I forgot to take photos of most of the food! Despite how busy the restaurant was, the service was good, and everything we ordered was fresh and very tasty. My toddler loves this place. The piggies on the walls, the plants, the patio and the fact that she can run around makes her love it. The food is always good. It doesn't focus on one type of cuisine but does a good job on the things that it does. My wife likes the bulgogi roll, I like the steamy piggy bowl, and all the dumplings are great. The temperature was warm enough for my 1 year old who was also with us. With that said, they have high chair available. The whole review could've been a 3 star; however the ramen was flavorful. The braised pork somewhat was much better from what I remember from the last time we came here. My wife and I loved it, specially my wife since her ramen was already cold after I finally received my order. That's the other thing, our food was not served at the same time. The ramen was served first, warm temp, then the braised pork was served maybe after about 5-10 minutes after. Got a little bit of everything but forgot to take picture smh. For starters there was no AC inside but the fans were on so it was cool enough. Normal for San Diego but would've been nice if it was cooler. Service was solid. The bulgogi bao was good, the texture of the bao was soft and the condiments on top made for a nice Mexican Chinese fusion dish. Chicken taco - breaded chicken meat. I also enjoyed it with the Mexican toppings. Bulgogi beef roll was special. Usually at Taiwanese places the wrap the beef roll is soft and malleable but they fried theirs and it had a super nice crunch. The bulgogi was way more meat than the typical Taiwanese beef roll. Probably the best thing I ate for the meal. Bulgogi chow fun - just ok, nothing special. Won't get again. Soup dumplings - not flavorful enough, wrapping too thick. Worst part of the meal. Steamy Piggy has been one of my favorite spots in Convoy for a while, and I still enjoy coming here. The food is creative and flavorful. My go-to order is the bulgogi fries. They're packed with flavor and are definitely worth trying if it's your first visit. I also like the Little Piggy desserts. They're almost too cute to eat and make for a fun way to end the meal. That said, my most recent visit wasn't quite as good as I remembered. The portion sizes seemed noticeably smaller than they used to be, and it also felt like some of the menu items or ingredients had changed. The food was still good, but it didn't quite have the same "wow" factor that made me fall in love with the place originally. One thing to keep in mind is that it's almost always busy, so don't be surprised if there's a wait, especially during peak hours. Overall, I'd recommend Steamy Piggy and will continue coming back. Such a fantastic experience! Our server Timothy(Tim) was wonderful. So attentive, quick, and accommodating. I don't eat pork and he helped me modify my meal to make sure I didn't have to eat any. We were able to find a parking spot in the lot and a table in the patio without a wait on a Wednesday at 5:30. Parking is free for 2 hours. It was the tail end of HH so we ordered a Soju cocktail called Purple Rain and the Bao flight. I did not expect the Baos to be so filling. It was the best dish there and I enjoyed all the different textures of the proteins. The soup dumplings were disappointing. The wonton was thick and chewy especially at the top where it is pinched together and the filling was firm and lacked flavor. After a long day at Americas greatest zoo in Americas greatest city, we gather up the gremlins to find some dinner. We always check out spots in one of the best foodie hoods in San Diego, Kearny Mesa/Convoy where you will find incredible Asian delights as well as much more! This has become a ritual every time we are heading home to Oside from the mother ship, SD. So I take my position in the passenger side while the wifey steers. At this point we have no clue as to our destination, but my wife gets on the ol' Yelp and heads to Steamy Piggy. I wouldn't have known, however, as we didn't even exit the zoo parking lot before I was already catching some zzzz's!!! Kids+ zoo+sun=tired Dad! To my delight(?), I awaken at the sound of horns honking at my wife as she pulls into the premier spot directly in front of the Piggy! Not a terrible driver is my wife, however, when it comes to the actual common sense "rules of the road", you know, the things you don't read in the DMV study guide, she is utterly clueless. The thing about her I love though? She doesn't care. Honk all you want fellow Diegans! It doesn't bother her! Me??? I'm shrining in the passenger seat just praying I don't know the people raging and throwing up their middle finger at us! Fast forward to our experience inside. It is a quaint spot that can get crowded quickly, I'd imagine. Considering we arrived (no reservation) at the dinner hour on a Saturday, one might think we'd be waiting for awhile. We did wait for maybe 10 minutes before anyone even bothered to acknowledge us. That was a bit disheartening. I mean one waiter literally walked by us 3/4 times and on one occasion, had to squeeze himself by. Did he say excuse me? Or even grunt something similar? Negative! Suffice to say it wasn't too long after ten minutes that a different employee sat us at the only table open. We had good timing by the way, as for the rest of our time, there was a lengthy waitlist. The poor service ended once we were sat. I don't recall her name but she was energetic, bubbly, knowledgeable and a wonderful server/hostess. She had patience with my 2 lil hillbillies and with my wife as well. Wifey can ask quite a few questions when perusing the menu at a new spot. Heck even at our old faithful joints she will still ask, "what do most people order, the cheeseburger or the hamburger?" Are you kidding me right now? Babe, the only difference is one has cheese. And I ordered the "Taco flight" along with a bowl of spicy ramen. Wife had intentions of ordering something else but got full eating 2 of the 3 tacos I otdered! It was fine because I couldn't even finish my huge bowl of spicy ramen! My 9yr old son ordered his "Last Meal" which he says is chicken wings. This was a salt and pepper "glaze" that he seemed to like although I didn't observe him scarfing them down like he typically does. You know, like a Velociraptor stumbling into a family BBQ. He was more reserved, although he did eat all but one. He saved that one for me. I'm not a big "wing" man as I prefer to lead (get it?), however this time I obliged. I'd give it a 6/10. It was also a happy hour deal and to me was a little overdone. My 6 yr old baby gurl ordered ramen as well (kids version-not spicy!). She devoured it but my baby girl devours almost anything at anytime. She loves food and loves eating it even more! She gave it 11/10! I swear she did eat it all. Even grabbing the bowl by its cheeks and with both hands, chugging the final few sips. She then began to eyeball my plate! These could be fusion but they are not a taco in the slightest. The only thing "taco" about them is that they arrived in a folded piece of bread. So what it was exactly was more of a Korean Bahn Mi. It came in a 3-some with "carnitas" or pork, "carne", beef and "pollo" - chicken. I ate the beef one while the wife tuvo los otros. Wow! Maybe they really were tacos, after all? I gave a 7/10 as I felt my beef taco was a bit salty. And I like salt! Wife had hers a bit higher at 8/10. We both LOVED the dough. Increible! They offered desert but these amigos were stuffed! Steamy Piggy was a cool spot that we would definitely come back to...sin hijos/without kids! Seems to be more of a cool date spot.
