Solid lunch spot alert! A friend and I stopped by the the other day on a whim and lucked out by arriving right before the noon rush. They've renovated the space recently, and it looks fantastic, clean, modern, and way more welcoming than before. The ordering counter is right at the entrance, and once you're ready, the staff keeps things moving quickly. The menu has also gotten an upgrade with a shiny new digital display, and I'm pretty sure there are some new items on there (love to see it!). Even with the new options, I'm loyal to my go to, the turkey sandwich, because it simply never misses. After they toast the sandwich, it's topping time. I always stick with my favorites, lettuce, olives, and honey mustard, simple but perfect. Once your sandwich is finished, don't forget to grab chips (and maybe a cookie...no judgment) plus a drink cup before paying and heading to the dining area. Speaking of drinks: I cannot resist their strawberry lemonade. Not only did I have one cup, I had two. It's that good. Service: Walked in and immediately greeted to order. Made a few good recommendations and off I went. Ordered a pepperoni pizza, 4" Italians sandwich, chips and a vitamin water. Pizza is thin and with the Italian seasonings, it's great. Sandwich was warm and toasty. Certainly a good meal. The invoice was $31, which is hefty for the volume of food. Good college sandwich shop. They do a good business and the line moves fast. I had the Italian Beef Sub on wheat. If you like Philly cheese steak, this is really good. Good food and fast service! What more can I say? Their prices are very reasonable, and I love how quick they are with preparing your food. This place gets busy in peak hours, but that doesn't stop them from being fast. Only downside is the location since they only have paid street parking and it's located by SLU, so it can get difficult finding a place to park. Stopped in for a quick lunch as I had an appointment and didn't have a lot of time. I've been to Pickleman's Deli a number of times and I've always had the same thing, a turkey and bacon sandwich! This time I decided to try the Cheesesteak sandwich and wow was it good! We were staying at a nearby hotel and the front desk. Staff suggested this location as a great place for dinner. The staff was super friendly and helpful as we picked out our choices. We shared the cranberry walnut salad. Lots of fresh spinach, and a delicious balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I had the turkey bacon sandwich, which was toasty and warm. Bread was crunchy with fresh vegetables and sliced turkey. The restaurant is well kept, clean and the clientele is indicative of the university that surrounds the area. I have worked in food service and retail for years and completely get being busy and putting something in wrong, but the woman who rung up my order obviously hated being there. She rung up my order incorrectly and then did not want to give me a refund. She said I could get cookies and a drink instead but said the refund process is too complicated and argued with her coworker about whether or not I could get my money back. I said I wanted a refund and she angrily made it happen. I've had my fair share of stressful days but either this place sucks to work for and she hates being there, or food service is not the place for her. Not a great experience. read more

Parking can be tricky , I was working next to the establishment so I had parking provided. It is very popular with a steady stream of customers but the line is quick and they are very professional. I arrived late on St Louis and was starving. I did some Google searching and searched on doordash and found good reviews for this sandwich place. I'm not normally one to get sandwiches these days, but I was intrigued. I ended up getting the BLTC sandwich. It was so good. Bacon was not overdone and was thick cut. Vegetables tasted fresh even late in the evening. I had some tomato bisque with it that was also excellent. I've been a patron of Pickleman's for many years and service is usually just fine. However; this does not mean I will condone unreasonable treatment. I sent coworkers who were already returning to Pickleman's for an item left out of their original order to pick up my Veggie sandwich. I was very specific about what I wanted on my sandwich. Whether it be the fault of my coworker or Pickleman's the sandwich included mayo (which I do not consume). I returned for what would have been a 3rd time trip for my coworkers. I kindly explained the issue & asked if I could please get another Veggie sandwich without mayo. Andrew gave so much heat! Wanting to argue about who was at fault, how the sandwich normally comes, I need to be more specific, what he heard vs. what was said, who paid...so on so on blah blah blah. I watched him in agitation then politely asked that he either give me a gift card of refund my coworker because I didn't feel like it was a good day for me to order and would try again another day. A refund was given. Needless to say I'll never darken the doorstep of Pickleman's again. Service this poor is never permissible. Picked up my order and when got home they did not give us our garlic bread, we called and they said they would have it delivered...it took so long we called again and they said they were on the way. Gourmet is understatement. This place needs at least two Michelin stars. There sandwiches are simply awesome.

Rating: 3.9 Stars This was my first ever order from Pickleman's Gourmet Cafe. Because I have had the meatball sandwiches at Good Buddy's (by far the best) and Gioia's Deli, it made sense to order Pickleman's Gourmet Cafe's Meatball Sandwich for the sake of comparison. Their version is interesting because the marinara sauce comes separate. The sandwich was smaller than anticipated. I am also not sure how I felt about the whipped garlic butter. The Meatball Sandwich was pretty solid, but the bread was soggy. That was a major letdown. The meatballs were also somewhat dry. Furthermore, the marinara sauce in the separate cup was watery and not well mixed. It also was not the greatest. Oh well. I give the Meatball Sandwich 3.7 stars. The Chocolate Chip Cookie that I ordered was good. It had a nice gooey consistency and good flavor. I give the Chocolate Chip Cookie 4.1 stars. The average of the two items comes out to the 3.9-star rating for my first Pickleman's Gourmet Cafe experience. I hope that this was just an anomaly, and I look forward to trying their other offerings in the future. read more
