Stopped in after the Farmers Market on a Saturday. It was busy, they were doing a cute pop up in the back area. I had already decided on going with Turkey, again but when I went to the counter to order they were out of the turkey. The staff manning the counter suggested the Roast Beef. I was skeptical as I have my favorite roast beef sandwiches, but I went with it. They are super friendly here and everything is so fresh! I had to go with their suggestion. I added on a peach scone. Took a seat at the counter by the window, grabbed a glass of water from the dispenser and read me book and watched the people till my sandwich was ready. All the sandwiches come on their house made focaccia and it is very good! Roast beef, romesco, pickled radish, aioli, and greens. It was a delicious sandwich, I loved the pickled radish and the whole sandwich had great flavor and freshness that you could taste - just like everything I have had here. I ate half and saved half for lunch the next day. I like scones as they are a nice dough but not overly sweet. This one had great texture and crumb. We're at Amsterdam weekly and have been wanting to try GVD since it opened. The veggie sandwich (not pictured) might be my favorite veggie sandwich in the St. Louis! The beets and carrots were incredible. The focaccia bread is fresh and fluffy. It was really excellent. My boyfriend didn't enjoy his roast beef as much. He liked the meat and bread but the other toppings didn't do it for him. The pickles were good. The restaurant is really cute but small. We got our sandwiches to go. Now this was a damn good sandwich! I'm so glad we stopped by after going to the farmers market. I got the apple cheddar sandwich & added turkey. The focaccia was soft & tasted fresh. The aioli was incredible & complimented the apples & cheddar so well. I'm glad I added turkey, I think the sandwich would've been underwhelming without meat. There isn't a ton of seating but it wasn't super busy so it was no big deal. This would be a great sandwich to grab & eat at the park. We will definitely stop by again soon! read more

This is a great location to grab some breakfast or lunch. They have a limited menu but everything is well worth it! They have excellent service from ordering to making your food. The inside is calming and offers relaxation with plants all around. I ended up with the apple cheddar sandwich on focaccia bread. WOW the flavors are unreal. This place ROCKED! The wifey & I decided to take a drive from West County and give this little a gem a try for lunch...glad we did! Cool, laid back, simple vibe...order at the counter & find yourself a seat in the clean & bright, yet small, deli. Had the Apple focaccia sandwich, added some bacon and it was out of this world phenomenal!! Wifey had one of the salad's. Perfectly sized, fresh and she loved it. We decided why not finish it off with a freshly baked cookie. PERFECTO!!! Talking with staff, the place opened in June and they already made the STL Bucket List on Instagram...so they are getting noticed and deservedly so!!! Such a cute new addition to the Tower Grove neighborhood with wholesome, healthy food at a decent price. Ordering was a breeze and my BLT was done and on a plate in front of me in 3 minutes! The focaccia bread was excellent, the true highlight of the moment. I would not order the BLT again because the bacon is made extremely (in my opinion overly so) crispy. Next time I will opt for the garden salad as I assume the same excellent heirloom tomatoes are found on that sandwich. While I believe the sandwiches are fairly priced, I would like to have the option of a small side salad that came with it. Happy to pay a dollar or two more for it to feel like a complete meal. Seating inside is extremely limited and I wish they had a mixture of smaller and larger tables; the small tables don't hold three plates with water cups comfortably. read more

Instead, I got a full-blown produce movie and it came out so fast so service is quick! The Caesar salad was so fresh with Kale, kohlrabi, greens, and parmesan crouton. And the veggie sandwich was stuffed full of a farmers market with tons of veggies, fennel goat cheese and greens. These greenies tried to escape out the sides but I organized between each bite so we got it all down. Let's talk about the focaccia. That bread alone would have satisfied me. A new deli in town... it is as beautiful as it is tasty. Garden variety prides itself on being a chef driven deli with farm fresh ingredients(i believe they grow many of their ingredients). Oh, and all on some bubbly focaccia. I had the turkey. Absolutely insane. I love when simple foods can be so tasty. Creamy slaw, a slice of funky havarti, and of course, a smooth smear of some insane ranch. The ranch had this beautiful tang to it that was proceeded by a nice little kick(but not spicy, just kinda smoky). Oh, and the sando is loaded with turkey. The focaccia is superb. A nice sprinkle of salt and pepper add some flavor but do not pull from the bread's integrity. The chocolate chip cookie? It is a top 3 of all time for me. Huge, sea salt sprinkle, the edges are just crispy enough but the center is gooey enough to keep it flimsy. On top of that? It's run by some amazing people. The service was friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. The space itself is super cute, though it's on the smaller side with only a few tables and some window seating. Just about all of the vegetables come from the owners garden and they will have seasonal menus depending on what's in season that time of year. The sandwiches offer big portions and they just started selling to-go focaccia bread, which I'm so excited to have to eat at home throughout the week. So far, I've had the turkey sandwich, the roast beef sandwich, the grain salad, the seasonal salad and the Caesar salad and I loved everything. The prices might be a little higher than you're used to for sandwiches and salads, but you won't behind more fresh or high-quality ingredients elsewhere. The owner and staff are very friendly and just seem like good humans! In a spirit of adventure I chose the grain salad. It was beautifully prepared and presented, but not to my taste. I expected there to be more veggies in it so I took it home and added green onions, organic cherry tomatoes and a few shrimp. Delightful!
