We came on a Sunday for the Drag Brunch to celebrate a friends birthday. We paid $400 for a private section that held up to 10 people and there was another party right beside us. When the show started we all started to complain about a plant being in the way of the show and the Drag Queens could not get through to grab the money we were handing them. The owner literally made a huge deal about moving this plant. She came and said VERBATIM "I just did not want to move it because that would mean I would have to accommodate other guests in the future by moving it. I had a great time with friends at this spot, because they planned ahead. This is one of those places you want to reserve a table at because there is very limited seating and gets crowded fast. I was unable to get to the bar due to the fact people sit at the bar and do not move. Thankfully, my friends had reserved a table. So we had somewhere to sit and the waiters came to us. We went to check out Skyrocket and these guys nailed it. They do a mix of 70's, 80's and 90's and had us dancing all night. The floor, unfortunately, is quite small and right in the way of people entering the establishment. So while you are trying to get down, others are just trying to get through to the tables. Not the best set up. I enjoyed the back patio. This area is a nice break from the crowded tables and floor and has heated lamps for cold nights. I would come back only if a good band is playing and reservations are made in advance. read more

Horrible attitude, service, and the band was lousy. I, unfortunately, came to this place as part of a birthday party, and I will never go back. The girls at the door were so rude and unprofessional. We had already paid $200 to reserve a place for us to sit for the birthday party; yes, just so we could have a place to sit. Well, we arrived at the place early and set up so we could decorate our little area, and ordered several drinks, some of which tasted like cough syrup. Then, we went to a restaurant a couple of doors down to eat, and we arrived right at 8:00 on the dot, some in our party arrived at 7:55. Well, the rude girls at the front insisted on charging us an additional $10 per person for a "cover charge," even though we had already been in there, ordered drinks and paid that ridiculous $200 fee to sit down. I talked to the manager, and he was just as nasty as the girls at the front. He told me that he didn't care about customer service, he just wanted $10 a person. They even chased down our friends that got there before 8:00 and called them liars! I don't even know what I paid for because the band was awful. The female lead singer was reading her lyrics off of her phone. So amateur! Maybe they need extra money for singing lessons! We made the most of the disappointing situation and made ourselves have fun, but I would have rather been somewhere with a DJ or a band with some professionalism and talent. What a waste of money! I have never left a negative review about a restaurant before, but I do not recommend this place to anyone unless you have money to throw away and zero taste in music! read more

This establishment was HORRIBLE. The manager Jessica was drunk? They drink on the job and are so rude and have no organization. Didn't get served for an hour and when this server Vanessa finally did show up she was SO rude and sucked!!! Had no care and so much attitude. How can they keep such bad servers. Came here on a Tuesday night for a "Band Showcase" to support my friend, who is getting married next year and was on the search for a local band for her wedding. There was a good variety of bands and music played, which was awesome, and a full house, which was fun! The band we came tonight to listen to didn't start at 8pm as scheduled but instead at 8:40pm after another group. But we had a great time, so it didn't bother us too much. We ordered the "Spicy Watermelon Mule" ($10), which was delicious--it was sweet but also had a great spicy kick (from the jalapeño syrup). We also got the "Chips & Queso" (complimentary with Yelp check-in) and it was good--nothing too special about it. The location itself is average sized and tidy, with a clean bathroom. It might be a bit difficult to find at first, because the bar's sign is covered by a tree, but just follow the picks (decoration) and you'll find the entrance! read more

Went for the first time Friday night and band was amazing! We had a great time so we booked VIP for my bday Saturday night. Needless to say for $350 with bottle of grey goose, we still had to pay cover of $15 each, which I thought was ridiculous. I don't know if there is a limit on the VIP to how many people you can have per table but the table next to us was overflowing to our table and we couldn't hardly move around because there were so many of them. Our VIP table was right next to the speakers so we couldn't hear each other talk. It was freezing because the doors were open so asked the waitress if she could shut one of the doors and she handed us a blanket. I just had to laugh at this point. The manager did come up and explained why she couldn't shut the door because it would get hot and I get it because you can't keep everyone happy. They were kind enough to bring us a space heater which was really nice. We really like this place and overall had a great time, but won't do VIP again unless I can pick the location. Suede was a great band and we've seen them many times. For those of you that haven't seen them, it's a must! read more

If I could give this bar less than a star I would. This bar has great music and a lovely atmosphere. This however does not make up for the terrible staff and ownership I encountered. I asked for another drink because I was very unsatisfied with the way it came out. If I pay $8.66 for 1 shot, I would like to enjoy it. When I asked for the drink to be replaced the woman said "you asked for chilled that's what it is." Then proceeded to hand the shot right back to me and walk away. This is disgustingly rude and uncalled for. I was not upset with them and just asked nicely. Do not come to this bar if you care about good customer service. I have tried picks in the past before and it was nice and enjoyable so I thought I'd try it again! The band was really enjoyable but the drinks not so much. My drinks tasted so sweet like they barely had alcohol in them. And what really ruined my night was the customer service at the bar. My friend had ordered a crown apple shot chilled and they gave her watered down shot! It tasted like water and was actually pinkish looking! When I told her to go back up, show them the drink, and ask for them to give her another , they looked at her and said "it's chilled? That's what you ordered" and then she WALKED AWAY from her. They're going to charge $5/person for a washed up 80s cover band which is fine.... but when it's 15 minutes to close and we tried to even sit In seats from the entirely deserted we weren't allowed to sit there. In an area where there's a hookah bar, and two different clubs, it can be difficult to make your establishment the "place to be." Picks definitely has their niche so unique, it stays different from everywhere else in San Antonio. It's a karaoke bar with a semi open floor plan to allow dances, yet also gives the opportunity for groups to also have their own tables to sit and drink. Picks is one of my favorite bars. They typically have cover bands/live music 7 days a week. The most popular time to go is Friday and Saturday. I like that it a more mature crowd (35+). The atmosphere is great! Think of a more packed Silo. Another good thing is that there are other venues in the area such as Lush and Burnhouse. There are also a few restaurants and a place to smoke hookah late at nought. read more

I usually don't get too wrapped around the axel with previous reviews. I had to check it out for myself. This visit was recent, like March 2016 recent, and I was thoroughly impressed. First and foremost, I really dug the decor. The atmosphere was laid back and the place was decently full. Not annoyingly packed, but just enough that I didn't feel awkward. I'm a wings and beer guy when I hit the bars, which is rare to begin with, and again, I was impressed. Can't fail with popping a beer top, but you can fail at making wings. Just ask any Chinese buffet. However, I liked the wings enough to eventually order another set to go. I was served at the bar and the bartender was all smiles and chatty. Since I workout and I'm hot, I get that a lot. Well, maybe it was the twenty I had in my hand. Who knows. I'm not going with the latter. This is my review and I can dream if I want to. From what I can tell, the menu is pretty much what I'd expect and want from a music/bar venue. Another positive check. The band playing was "Finding Friday." They were playing on a Thursday, so I just went with it. Why not? They seems to have a good following and they played great tunes. Plus, a lot of people were dancing. Well, I use the term "dancing" loosely. This is San Antonio after all, not South Beach. But, I digress. Regardless, everyone seemed to be having fun and that's what impressed me the most. I'm going to have to venture back on Tuesday. There's a flyer that talks about open mic night. It seems you can bring your own instruments or use the band's. This place has the staff, setup and atmosphere to be a great nightspot, but our last visit was ruined by an obnoxious DJ. We went with a group to see Skyrocket and had to claim our reserved table by 9:15. This necessitated almost an hour of 150 decibel hip hop by some 20 year old DJ Men-yo. At ten pm with the band standing stage left ready to start, he continues for another ten minutes. Yeah, fool, the crowd of about 300 was there to hear you. Great first set by Skyrocket and then before they can even unstrap theit instruments the DJ cranks it up again and takes charge. Conversation was futile. Even ordering a drink requires you to scream in the waitress ear. We would have loved to stay for the second set but we couldn't take the pain anymore. read more

Everything about our visit was amazing! I've been here a few times before and loved seeing finding friday. Tonight we came to see The Munoz Brothers and try La Maceta's food and wasn't disappointed one bit. The band was AMAZING and have definitely gained fans, and the food was absolutely delicious. Saw this place on SA Foodie and decided to try. $7 cover fee on weekends and paid $10 for parking from some sketchy valet. First impressions the place was super cute for pictures but not a soul under 30 in there. All old heads and the drinks were pretty expensive. $8 for a beer. Also the bouncer was so unfriendly we didn't know what was wrong with him. Bartender was very nice though. You're better off going to woodrows or somewhere downtown. read more

Well I would like to warn everyone that comes that has paid $45.00-$300.00 for a table or VIP seating that there will be a $10.00 cover charge if you do not arrive before 8:00pm and make sure you are not a minute or two late! Because that's what happened to my birthday party guests and me. I talked to the bartender even the manager on the phone when I made the reservations and knew the rules. They said make sure you come back at 8:00pm I agreed. I double checked and they said yes you can leave and come back. So first I thought we would arrive at Pick's early set up and leave to have some dinner down at the Anchor's bar since there was not a lot to choose for dinner at Pick's knowing we needed to be back at 8:00pm we rushed eating and made it back at Pick's at 8:02pm and the people at the door demanded $10.00 to all my guests and me. I said yes I realize it's 8:02pm but I figured they would completely understand plus we already paid $250.00 for VIP seating. Nope they wanted $10.00 from all 9 of us. Unbelievable! That really killed the mood. And then to have them come over and hound us at our table saying to us we know some of you still need to pay the $10 cover charge. Unbelievable so unprofessional! I really wanted to leave but tried to enjoy the evening even though my guests and I were infuriated! If I owned a place like this I would give there guests some grace arguing over 2min! They just lost 9 guests I don't think are coming back. It really upset my guests and added so much stress to our supposed to be fun night. WOW!!! THE WORST Manager EVER!!!! ******Caution******* Be careful opening a tab!!! They closed my friend's tab with someone else and gave them my friend's card!!!! When another friend expressed her strong verbal disapproval, she was escorted out. She didn't even raise her voice, never became aggressive or abusive. The Bouncer even said later that he thought we were very calm considering the situation. When we went out front for the Mgr to call SAPD for a report, the Mgr said, when asked her reason for calling, "nothing really, we just gave out some ones card". WAIT, WHAT? JUST gave out a card. Wow!! So it's nothing? This manager needs training and couldn't handle 3 ladies understandably upset about the situation. Doesn't she deal with drunk people from time to time?
