It's an older rink and that shows. Use the lockers at your own risk. The people in the front office told me that sometimes all it does is take your money. Don't forget to bring quarters if you're going to chance it (.75) The change machine wouldn't take my money, the snack stand couldn't make change and the front office didn't have any! They did, however, offer to hold my purse and shoes. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but it's not like I'll never set foot in this place again. read more

Don't leave a voicemail if you are inquiring for a party. I've left 3 and never received a call back. I finally went there in person. No apology for the lack of responsiveness. Jonna just carried on and asked me to fill up the paperwork. She later on made a comment, after my payment was made, "I'm never a phone person. Prefer email". Maybe they should remove the phone number on the events flyer? Better yet, turn off the voicemail option on the phone number? One star since she helped me after all, but geez. It's expensive... the lady at the front desk is borderline rude (duh, read the countless other reviews saying the same thing!) It was our family's first time ice skating. I like the seal they had for our young daughter to sit on -- we certainly used it as a crutch! I wouldn't recommend this place for novice ice skaters... the rink is huge, there's only a tiny place to hold on... and most of the skaters were pretty experienced. read more

I've been a figure skater for almost 14 years of my life (novice, gold level ice dance and fully passed all field moves), until I moved here. I've been so preoccupied with my job that I haven't skated in forever and I need to get back into the swing of things. I've heard nothing but great things about Pickwick and I would like to know when and if there are any freestyle sessions that are quiet so I wouldn't be in anyone's way trying to get back in shape haha. read more

Great that there's an ice rink in Burbank but could use an overhaul. Ice is just so-so and the interior feels like time traveling back to the 70's, but it's a good size, parking is easy, etc. Can't complain too much. read more

I've played hockey here for about 20 years, would be more but I moved away for awhile, but now that I'm back I still wouldn't play anywhere else. I love the place. Just wish the pro shop was open more often haha read more

Out church had broom ball during New Years Eve. We were there for about 2 hours. It was lots of fun and we had kids and adults playing. It was super cold and I did not dress properly, but at least I warmed up after running back and fourth. read more

I love this place and I have been skating here for 2 years. Everyone who works there is super nice and I basically know everyone lol. I like that they have a cafe inside because I always get hungry after my lessons. A bit crowded sometimes but it's still pretty great. The ice is nice most of the time. But the rental skates are a bit iffy. A bit hard to find the entrance. Everyone always gets confused. read more

Here's the thing: it's an old rink, peopled with odd characters (I'm talking staff and patrons), but in this era when there are so very few ice rinks left in the entire Los Angeles area, we have to appreciate it for what it is. The rink is big, the ice is decent (better right after the Zamboni, of course), and it's a place to go for fun, for lessons, for birthday parties, hockey, etc. Parking is free, and the few bucks you spend for entrance + skate rental is totally worth it for some good clean fun (and good exercise too). Their adult beginner lessons are great and lighthearted. Yep, the lockers barely work, so leave your valuables in your car. read more

I am originally from the Midwest, so I was basically started ice skating when I was still in Kindergarten. When I first moved to LA, I was looking for an ice rink and was happy to find the Pickwick center. Admission and skate rental is affordable, and they have open skating several times a week. The ice is always clean, and during open skate, they play fun music that allows for a great workout. They also sell delicious hot chocolate that is the perfect warm up after a day on the ice. read more

After 25 years of being off ice, I came back with a lot of anxious determination. There is usually an "air" in rinks bordering on unfriendliness and maybe even a feeling of exclusion when one is not part of the club. This is not how Pickwick rolls. The first positive is they offer adult freestyle sessions and adult classes taught by very experienced pros. Lori is friendly, accommodating, and she completely gets the adult skater--she skates herself (I've seen her on the ice). The skate shop manager, Brian McGowan, is extremely knowledgeable about boots, blades, sharpening, and other tricks of the trade. He treats the casual adult wandering in, trying to find her way to the ice, with as much kindness and interest in ensuring a perfect fit, as he does an elite skater going to nationals. Luckily for me, Brian made sure my fitting corresponded to when the SP-Teri expert, George, son of the original Mr. SP-Teri, would be at the rink. I was fitted and four weeks later, I had the most gorgeous pair of boots. Brian finished the fitting, talked me through my anxiety, made me laugh, and got my blades mounted and sharpened in time for my first break-in time on ice. Since then, he has been monitoring my progress to ensure my blades don't need adjusting and that my boots fit properly. He understands old school skates and skating, and he helps the "old" skaters adjust to new technology and products. The skate pros I've met have all been friendly, offering up tips, and they have made me feel welcome. My classes with Mary Lucas (has a wicked sense of humor and a penchant for proper edges) have been inspiring due to her ability to (repeatedly) demonstrate with detailed descriptions the technique I used to have but have somehow lost between grad school, birthing two boys and having a career...somewhere in there is where I dropped my edges, jumps, and spins...but I digress. If you are an adult and want to skate, I highly recommend Pickwick. The team there are really grand, and the coffee shop guy (a savory character with the temperament of one who has seen the high seas and may have helped birth calves) serves a hearty selection of herbal teas (sometimes I drink it post-skating to calm myself) and French fries (very tasty). The price to skate is reasonable, and if you take a group class, the public session immediately following is included in the price. Can't speak to skate rentals, as I don't rent skates. The rink reminds me of the ones I grew up in, and I love that--the smell of the Zamboni, morning ice, hockey players' blood--and it is the place where I find my zen. read more

We had my daughter's birthday party at the ice rink, and I cannot recommend the venue. The coordinator for parties, Jonna, was rude and not at all helpful. The entire thing was completely unorganized on their part. The ice is fine, and the girls had enough fun skating but overall it was a negative experience for me as the parent. The party was way overpriced, with many hidden fees. If the people hired to oversee had been friendly and helpful, it still would have been overpriced, but at least I might have left with a positive vibe. Pick another spot for a party. read more

After being loyal customers to Pickwick Ice since the fall, an unforgivable incident occurred recently. We were treated in a very disrespectful manner, quite horribly, actually, by Coach Denise, the Director of the Skating Program. Her behavior towards my little girl and me was appalling. She never spoke a kind word, encouraged my daughter, nor paid attention whenever she fell on the ice during her class - ignored her instead. Coach Denise went so far as to tell my daughter that she would be happy if she left her class. It was as if she had some personal vendetta against my 10 year old daughter. This type of person should not be teaching children. She also verbally attacked me. It is because of her that we have left Pickwick Ice. The other coaches were kind, courteous, and professional. I would like to add that Sheena in the front office is amazing. The response to my detailed complaint letter from Pickwick was to send me a check for the 3 remaining classes since we left. I have received NO apology from neither the Management there nor Coach Denise herself. DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILDREN TO TAKE CLASSES HERE, UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE DIRT! read more

I went to this place, for the first time, for a friend's birthday party when we were in middle school. I've loved it since then! I've kept coming back and coming back. Even though I don't technically know how to properly ice skate, it's just one of those activities where no matter how hard you fall, it's just too much fun to give up! Older rink and home to UCLA's ice hockey team. One sheet of ice. Ample room for viewing with a good stand/bleachers. Four locker rooms but a walk away from the rink. Small shower room adjacent to the rooms. The locker rooms are medium in size; not the largest (Goleta) but not the smallest (older Ontario rink). Small pro shop but items in there if forgotten or broke. I had to look in as not open yet, my getting here at 0800. Wide walk ways around the rink. Rental lockers available if here for a public session of ice skating. Snack bar by the rink that is closed off from to be a bit warmer than the rink area with about six video games. Spacious with a number of tables. Thankfully it was open so I could get coffee after the long drive to get here. Ample parking. The fifth star isn't given mainly for having only one sheet of ice and the locker rooms being a 100 yard walk to the bench. This facility is more a 4.5. read more

We're at this rink all the time, as our son plays ice hockey. He comes here for practices, games, and lessons. They definitely have some great coaches and teachers here, and we're very pleased with the caliber of coaching our son gets. The rink itself fills me with nostalgia, not because I ever skated but because it's one of those places that just seems to have stopped in time, in a good way. We also had his tenth birthday party here, and everybody had a blast. Erica was our hostess. She was fantastic! She made sure all the guests had drinks and food, and she even cleaned up afterwards. If we have another party here someday, we would definitely ask for her again, because she really helped the party work without a glitch. On Friday March 30, my son started his first ice skating lesson. I signed him up for lessons because I wanted him to learn to skate safely. When we got to the lesson, I had a bad feeling when the instructor said to "come out on the ice". My niece was a skater and the first several lessons she had were not on ice at all until she learned fundamentals. I told the instructor that my son had never been on skates before and had never been on ice. They did a few drills on the carpet and headed to the ice. I told a mom standing with me that I was concerned that he did not have a walker on the ice and no one was holding his hand. I started to go get skates myself because I did not feel comfortable with the class and his safety. I felt that I could have taught him to skate safer at that point with myself and a walker to help. Needless to say, he was standing with no assistance and fell and broke his shin bone in 2 places. I did not know that at the time, I only knew he was injured. I went the office to tell the staff we would not be back and was told I would have to pay a cancellation fee. I needed to get my son to urgent care so I left very upset. The staff was rude to me about it. The next day, after we found out his leg was broken, I called and left a message for Johnna to call me back. I felt that I needed a full refund at this point for sure. Now it was not me cancelling, he could not come back because he BROKE HIS LEG in the first class ever. She did not call me back. I called 5 more times that day and each time, I was told she was there but unavailable to talk to me. Another time I called, I asked for someone else and was told Kyle would return my call. He did not. I kept calling and finally got Johnna when she accidentally answered the phone. She first wanted to credit me for the class but we are not coming back. She finally agreed for the full refund. I received the check today and it was only $165. I paid $204. I am livid! Not only did they not refund me the entire amount, now I have medical bills, my son is out of baseball for the season (which he is distraught about). I have lost money for baseball that is now wasted because he cannot play. He cannot participate in the end of school activities. Our summer vacation plans are on hold due to his cast. He is 6 years old and cannot walk or be a typical 6 year old boy. All I have asked for is a full refund. I think that is fair. I could be asking for more. With all this hassle of a 6 year old with a broken leg and the physical and emotional hardships of this for our family, they are making it more difficult for us by not refunding the amount paid and giving me more to have to deal with during this very difficult time. read more
