A close up picture showing fibers

Order: Lulu special Absolutely disgusting and completely unacceptable. I bit into my pizza and hit something so hard that it actually hurt my teeth. I spit it out and found what clearly appeared to be a brown paper towel baked inside the crust. You can literally see the fibers in the pictures. That is not "hard dough." When I complained to the waitress, she sent a man in a tie-dye shirt(manager) out and tried to tell me the dough had just folded over itself. Seriously? Instead of apologizing, taking the situation seriously, or even properly investigating it, he stood there trying to convince me I did not see what was right in front of my face. Then I went into the bathroom and saw the same type of brown paper towels in the dispenser. So how in the hell does something that looks exactly like a bathroom paper towel end up baked into someone's pizza? That is beyond nasty and raises serious questions about what is happening in that kitchen. I told them I did not want the rest of the pizza, because who would keep eating after finding that? The worst part was the way they dismissed me instead of showing any real concern for food safety or the fact that I could have damaged my tooth. The pictures speak for themselves. I will never eat at Pie Hound Pizza Company again. Check your food before you bite into it, because apparently customers are expected to argue with management about whether paper towel fibers are "just dough." I don't know what is it if it's not paper towel what do yall think it is?

This place was amazing!!!! Heading home to East Tn from the beach and had a craving for some pizza and wings. Got on Yelp and found we were within 5 miles of this place. The wings, spicy house buffalo and spicy charred pineapple, were amazing and the Chicago style pizza was absolutely perfection. Our food came quickly and the staff were super friendly. The interior is amazing with exposed brick walls, original hardwood and balconies on both sides. If you are traveling 75 around Athens and need a little break I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

What a great spot in downtown Athens! It hasn't been open very long, but word-of-mouth rave reviews had our expectations high, and Pie Hounds exceeded them. The lunch menu was concise today, which we'd heard. Seems to be the "do few things and do them really well" philosophy (my favorite) and one that can keep folks on time and able to get back to work without the boss giving them the ol' side-eye. The ambiance is what you'd expect in a new-old downtown renovation space with high ceilings, great lighting, exposed brick, lots of custom touches like the live-edge wood slabs for a bar, and huge bright big screen TVs mounted high. Upstairs seating in two loft type areas. The dining room appears to be fully accessible for folks of all abilities. The noise level was moderate when it was full (note to self: set hearing aids to 'crowd/restaurant' when it's packed). When it's still busy but not wall-to-wall full, it was easy to have conversation at normal volume. People seemed really happy to be there, both the staff and customers. The crowd has been a mix of downtown professionals, college students, curious locals, travelers, and a few regulars. We were greeted by an energetic bar server who seemed to double as an expert hostess, trouble-shooter, and expediter with expertise in Southern Hospitality and grace. That's Emmy. The servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff enjoy a reputation as being great at what they do and they deliver it with enthusiasm. They seem super willing to check on quality and address anything that comes up. Nothing came up, but instead of just asking "how're y'all doing over here" exactly when we all have taken a bite , they inquired specifically about taste, temperature, condiments, and accouterments. The place is building a reputation as a positive community business and a great place to work, dine, meet, and to bring friends and guests from out of town. Perfect for the city. I don't know that I've ever had Detroit Style pizza before, but I'm a fan now. The crust is kinda cheesy crispy on the edges and cooked throughout. I really want the dough and crust to be fully cooked, so I sometimes order it "well done." Thats not necessary here. Hopefully they'll add anchovies, salami, and banana peppers as toppings. In addition to customized pizzas, they have some specialty pizzas with red or white sauces and lots of great toppings from which to choose (including pork belly!) so that there's probably something for everyone. The sausage and house-made pickles are a hit and everyone seems to love the ricotta dip appetizer. Friends and I have tried several items and they have 100% positive feedback so far. I look forward to eating my way through the menu and seeing what they come up with next. My lovely wife hopes to meet the canine mascot(s) soon. Hey, some of us come for the food, some for the drinks and company, she comes for the whole experience including the hope of celebrity dog sighting. It's very popular already and bustles during lunch and dinner rush hours. There's a curfew for places downtown who have adjacent lofts and apartments. Apparently this building is one of them. They close at 9 on weekdays and before midnight (11 or 11:30 I think) on weekends. Rumors suggest that there may be live music in the future. This space seems perfect for it. I'm the guy that asks to see "the pit" at the BBQ place. So, I fully intend to see if I can peek at the kitchen, pizza oven, etc on a future visit. I'll let you know . Pictures coming soon.

Noon visit on a Tuesday. Busy, but still adequate seating. Indoor (upper and lower) and outdoor options. Lovely interior atmosphere. Did not see the outside area. Adequate food selections, mostly pizza. Pizzas are a little small, 8x10, but was large enough for two for lunch. Dinner would probably need an appetizer add on. Price ($18) was a little high for the size in my opinion, but not terribly so. Server arrived promptly for drink orders and delivered drinks quickly. We were still deciding on the meal, so asked for a few minutes. It took her considerably longer to return than expected. This was our only complaint with the experience today. Pizza was very good. Thick crust, which rare jn these parts. Loved the crispy slightly burned edges. Very tasty! We will return.

I really like this place! The front bar area has a nice bar and nice seating (the back dining area…read moreis more generic). The food is very good! I had the chicken salad croissant with the barbecue kettle chips. I know Aubrey's and Jenkins are known for their chicken salad, but in my opinion, this beats them both, and it is served on a toasted croissant. So good! My husband had the Italian Sammy which he said was good, but a little spicy. For "dessert", I went with the Blackberry Whiskey Sour, which was also really good! Everything was really good!

In my opinion this is the best pizza in Tennessee, I have been here 10 years and have had pizza…read morefrom all over the state, plenty of fresh toppings spread out all over a great tasting crust , sauce had a hint of oregano that complemented the fresh peppers onions sausage and fresh tomatoes on top. I washed it all down with a couple of double espressos and an ice cold coke . For desert I had a salad topped with red wine vinegar and oil . There was no rush to enjoy the meal as Amanda , bartender, manager and a very perceptive lady timed my order perfectly. Wes Flynn , the owner , buzzed around the place incessantly checking to make sure each customer was satisfied pitching in to bring out food and clear tables ,he even had a little time to sit and talk . There was live music and the decor was comfortable that tried to invoke Chicago in the 20s displaying a prominent picture of Al (fonce) Capone , I suggested instead put up one of Sophia .
