Y'all, Yelpers did me right again! I found this place on Yelp and suggested it to local friends. "OMG YESSSS! Sometimes I forget about Small's, but it is soooo good!" Let me begin to describe the majesty of this cheeseburger. The patty fits the bun. It's the kind cooked on a flat griddle until the edges are seared just short of crispy, the bus is brushed old-school, and the toppings are fresh. My friend "Banana" endorsed the chili cheeseburger and the fries were delicious as I recall. I have been thinking about this place since that first trip and tried to go twice more to find it closed. It will be that much better next time because of the anticipation! read more

Possibly the worst burger I've had. I got a double burger and these patties were over cooked to a point I've never seen before. I mean you couldn't cook it this bad if you tried! While paying for this mess at the register I figured it out. There in plain sight the two cooks standing in front of a filthy flat top and on it were three spatulas with two overcooked patties sitting on each one. Sadly, I can't tell you how disappointing this is. This look to be a mom and pop type place which I prefer to give my hard earned money to. Tried the restaurant because I've heard friends say the burgers were good. We were seated right away but that's when things got really slow--I mean really slllllooooowww. After placing our order it was approximately 40 mins by the time we got our food. The Cajun bacon burger is ok, but it was served room temperature, the American cheese slice wasn't even warm enough to bend or melt. You would pass this place up if didn't know it was there ( kinda looks like a old car lot/ drive-in from outside)- has no sign. Is a hidden gem in the area would recommend anything on the menu. I'm a burger addict. The healing can begin now. Ive had burgers all over our wonderful country and was getting a bit concerned that Athens TN was going to disappoint. Then I read a review of Smalls and hightailed it over. A classic cheeseburger with lettuce Tomato and onions was my war cry! Hey you gotta get fries with that. The burger was excellent! Flat top grilled to medium rare perfection with a thick slice of beautiful tomato and a soft perfect bun that held up to the torrent of delicious burger juices! If the other burgerholics could see me now they'd take away my achievement chip! Now that said I will have to be honest my crinkle cut fries were below par. It could have been a bad batch but they were weirdly stale in texture. I'm not a big fry guy anyway and consider them a garnish so my overall experience was pleasing! I must hold back the 4th star because of the potato failure and recommend the steak fries or tots So far this place is the top dining establishment on my Athens food finding blitzkrieg! As long as we've lived here, I never stopped in because I'm not good with crowds. So today was my first time and I can say I was more then surprised at how clean,friendly and organized Smalls is. When so first walked in I was greeted by a gentleman running the register. As I placed my order, I explained to him I have a 25 minute drive before I reached the rest of the family and we could eat. He took the time to make sure all the fixings were separated from the meats. As you wait you can see and smell how fresh all the ingredients are and how they all have pride in working there. When we all started dressing our chili dogs and bacon cheeseburgers we were all stunned at how everything tasted like it was made at home. Even each side is enough for two people. Now knowing this, I definitely recommend people who haven't yet, to get over there and give them a try. It's a great value and excellent food and service. read more

Idk And the place is very cute, it has an old drive in kind of feel, I think you can also park and they will bring the food out, but I just came inside. The place it's very small so there is only a few booths to sit at. Their specialty seem to be the burgers so I order me one , the fries you have to order them separately And they have a choice of steak fries and regular and crinkle ( I asked if they were hand cut Fries but they were not) however I had the steak fries and they were very tasty. The burger was oh so good, meat very we'll season and juicy. I can say that it pleased me very much to find a place with not frozen patties other than my back yard. When you walk in this place the smell is delicious and the sound of sizzling meat on a flat top is sound track to your dining experience. It is a drive in so you can order car side but they also have 4 tables inside.The prices are fantastic, under 5 bucks for a burger.I ordered a chili cheeseburger , onion ring and a coke. The coke comes over pellet ice which I prefer over your standard ice. The burger is giant and the onion rings are some of the best I have had in East Tennessee. We happened on Small's-Cajun while on a road trip through Tennessee. It by far was he beat burger I've had in a long time. Great grill crunch on the outside, fresh beef, and just the right amount of fixers. The French fries were crispy and hot. Service was friendly, we would definitely eat there again. read more
