We found this place on google maps and so glad we did! We were heading back from Cade's Cove to GA. This place doesn't look fancy on the outside, but the food is absolutely delicious! The chicken broccoli afredo pizza was the star of the show. It was absolutely amazing. If we lived closer, I would be stopping by regularly for a slice or two. They have a pizza, all you can eat salad, and drink combo which filled us up. Salad bar was well maintained, clean, and had a nice variety. Inside was clean, and I know this sounds crazy, but I was excited about the bathroom doors opening out instead of in! I didn't feel like I was having to lean against a toilet seat to open and close the door. Service was great. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and kept our drinks filled. We go to Bert's all the time and stuff like this usually doesn't bother me. Today we went at 3:45 (much earlier than normal) seated promptly with only a couple of tables with patrons. There were 4 or 5 waitresses standing behind the wall chit-chatting which is fine. BUT we sat there for 10 minutes and nobody came to the table to greet us, get drink orders, or anything. We Never do this but today we walked out after 10 minutes while the waitresses were still busy chatting. We've always loved the food and service here. Pretty irritating today. read more

We were in the area and the family wanted burgers. So I searched Yelp and really good reviews. The restaurant is very cool. From outside it seems like a basic house cafe but when you get inside it's a big restaurant. Staff are wonderful. They have a salad bar which we did not try., we ordered a small pizza, a cheeseburger and chicken tenders. The only draw back of the kids menu is there isn't a burger option. My kiddo was wanting a burger but the size and price we knew it would go to waste., so they ordered chicken fingers. For the most part when we order from here which has been several times now, everything is good. But there's been times something hard and brown has been in my mashed potatoes, taste was off on something, or they didn't follow instructions with our order. Most of the time the grilled chicken sandwich is delicious, and so is their cheesecake. That's usually what I get here. My boyfriend isn't a huge fan of here, if we both get here to eat he gets a burger or pork chops. Wish their potato wedges were actual potatoe wedges, not big pieces of potato. Found that out the 1st time we ordered here. Anytime we have had a issue though, they like to make it right by paying for our next meal or a refund. I always appreciate a company who is willing to make things right in favor of the customer. That's hard to find. read more

I was hesitant to step into Bert's at first because the outside looks like somebody's house and I didn't want to end up in a living room! But upon stepping in, I discovered a well-furnished restaurant. Service at Bert's was good and attentive. The sweet tea wasn't too sugary and I like that they use crushed ice. I ordered a Philly steak sandwich and a "Meat Market" pizza. The Philly was difficult to hold because the bread was quite soggy, but I enjoyed the taste. The steak was tender yet had a good char, so I can see how it's a top seller. The Meat Market pizza included hamburger, pepperoni, sausage, and bacon. In other words, a carnivore's dream! This pizza was a deep-dish style pan pizza and I found the overall flavor satisfying. Good balance between the meat, cheese, and sauce. There was too much crust in the ratio, but I didn't know they offer thinner versions. So I will try the thin crust or gluten free next time. Will be back to Bert's. read more

Apparently this place has been a local favorite forever. I can see why!! We stopped in with 20 Boy Scouts. They were.ready for us. Great service for us all! The menu is huge. I went with the Chicken Parmigiana. It was hot, covered in a ton of cheese. Sauce was just ok. 2 pieces of premade garlic bread that was cooked perfectly. Overall a ton of food that was tasty. I randomly ended up in Madisonville for work and when driving through town was greeted by tons of fast food options that were not appealing to me. To my left I did see Bert's hometown grill and it looked like there were a lot of cars there. I am glad we stopped in. It is a cute local restaurant that was packed with locals which was a good sign. They had a salad bar that my coworker loved. The menu had tons of options but I saw a pizza on a table next to me and had to try. I am so glad I did it was delicious! I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Was scouting out a place for my car club to stop at during one of our drives in the nearby mountains and discovered Bert's. Just had the Chicken Parmesan. The meat was nicely breaded and perfectly cooked. The sauce was tasty, the cheese generous and the spaghetti was perfect al dente. The service seems to not be enjoying themselves . Not easy to take over , understandably. However even our third try- no good. Second time we walked out and so did another table too, as no one bothered to give silverware or anything to them either . The best pizza in Madisonville. I usually order the same thing every time. The "meat lovers" specialty pizza. My niece recently surprised us with a visit and we needed a quick dinner, so we called Bert's and ordered pizza. Not only did my niece love the pizza but she loved the homemade ranch too .50 cents extra to add it. I always use the drive thru to pick up my orders. I've had friendly, quick customer service every time. Don't forget to tip on those pick orders too. They are more of a pain in the behind to get together than if you dined in. Great home town diner fare. Awesome pizza if you prefer a nice thick crust with lots of fresh toppings. When our kids and grandkids come from out of town they always want to go to Bert's! They have an awesome salad bar! My sirloin was cooked flawlessly (well done) and my husbands ribeye was perfectly medium rare. Many restaurants seem to struggle with this, so it was nice that the food came out exactly as ordered. Food came out hot. Only reason for four stars is we got there an hour before closing and our waitress stopped waiting on us 30 minutes before closing as we were the only people in her section (another waitress's section was bursting so it was odd). I plan on going back again for sure. Maybe midday next go around lol. read more

Like many others I saw a very busy restaurant so I thought I'd give it a try. Pizza buffet, max of 3 pizzas on the bar and was out half of time I was there. Also, not very special in my opinion. Seems like to up the profit most pizzas were 1 or 2 toppings at best. Salad bar, not great. Not a big variety. Also the sneeze guard was so high that your mouth and nose touched where others had touched before. I'd say for someone under 5'8" the best bet would be to duck their head under which defeats the purpose. Price, for pizza buffer and salad bar somewhere around $10, more expensive and not a good a selection as I've seen at any other pizza place. I tried to like it, I thought the crowded parking lot told the story but it didn't work out for me. read more

When my husband and I first started going here it was great but the last few times it was just awful. The last time, just a couple days ago was just unacceptable. The water tasted like sewage smells, just gross. We placed our order 2 alamo burgers with fries. We had to wait forever for our food. To give you an idea. The 3 people behind us sat down roughly 5 minutes after we placed our order and they got their food before us. The table beside us sat down about 10 minutes after we ordered and they received their appetizers which had to be cooked before we got our food and the server stopped and said our burgers will be coming off the grill shortly.
