I'm posting this to warn other parents!…read more Dr. Kristen uses pressure tactics and an ultimatum-based approach instead of transparency and options. Went to my 4-year-old's visit and was told she has 5 cavities. They presented a treatment proposal totaling $4,107 and insisted there were no options other than completing all fillings under IV sedation (they quoted $1,800 for IV sedation alone). I specifically asked about alternatives--staged visits, nitrous/laughing gas, monitoring, sealants/fluoride, etc.--and was told IV sedation was the only option. I was also told I cannot be present during the procedure. One of the teeth they labeled a "cavity" is a known trauma injury to her upper left canine (tooth H) from a fall about a year ago. I witnessed the injury and the area has been stable since (you can clearly see enamel loss with dentin showing). Our family dentist previously evaluated it and documented it as trauma-related dentin exposure, not decay. This office dismissed the trauma history completely and repeatedly insisted it was "definitely a cavity." They also took X-rays, but when I asked to see the images to confirm whether cavities were between the teeth and how deep, I was told the X-rays were "deleted" and they could not show me anything--yet they still spoke in absolutes and pushed IV sedation. As if that wasn't enough, they also stated my child has a tongue tie and suggested they cut it while she is under sedation, despite the fact that she has no feeding, speech, or tongue-related issues. This was presented casually as an add-on, not as a symptom-based evaluation or referral. What pushed this over the edge: I was told they will not see my child again for cleanings unless we proceed with their recommended fillings/sedation. I have never experienced a provider withholding basic preventive care as leverage to force agreement to treatment. My child has no pain. What we needed was evidence, a clear explanation, and reasonable options. What we got was pressure, dismissiveness, missing diagnostics, and an "our way or no care" stance. We will be getting a second opinion elsewhere, and I strongly suggest other parents do the same.

This guy is the epitome of what people hate about doctors. Arrogant, intractable, with a horrid…read morebedside manner. He claims in his waiting room that he graduated from Harvard - but Harvard should sue him to get him to take down the degree as to not sully their name!! I agree that bedside manner, while important, is not the MOST important trait for a doctor... But when they knowingly and intentionally try to needlessly inflict pain on their patients - that crosses a bright line. Here's what I mean... My wife went in for an extremely painful tooth. (The next day she had a root canal from a MUCH better endodontist - more on that in a moment) With no warning or explanation Dr Bernstein (the doctor at Haile Endodontics) used an instrument that produces sub-zero temperatures to "test" her teeth. She winced in pain when he touched her non-painful tooth. He was visibly annoyed and said that it was natural for her to feel pain because she grinds her teeth. So when he then said he was going to test the painful tooth - which was EXTREMELY cold sensitive - she said she couldn't take that. It was too much on her healthy teeth, how could she handle that test on a painful and cold sensitive tooth? When she refused, he threw his hands up in the air, said "Well I can't help you if I can't test your teeth. I'd just be shooting in the dark." and walked out of the room. (More about the necessity of this test in just a second) When we left, my wife was in tears and I was livid. When we got home I called and demanded that the office refund the deductible and not bill the insurance (because the doctor refused to treat her.) The office complied, we did a Google review, and that was the end of it. This morning, we got an emailed bill. But not from a billing software email address, it came from the office gmail account. That seemed very strange to me. I've never known a doctor's office that manually sends bills through a Gmail account. After some discussion and trading emails with the doctor (yes it was him specifically emailing us), here is what we imagine happened... The doctor saw the review this morning, got mad, and decided to harass my wife because she had the nerve to point out what a jack-@$$ he was to her. So he sent the bill, and he was still on the computer when she responded. So he sent an extremely long email filled with an inaccurate narrative about her visit. Truth is, I'd have never written this review if not for the harassment this morning. Not only did this arrogant egomaniac hurt my wife and intentionally try to hurt her more... Now because his ego is bruised he's trying to harass us! It's just inexcusable for a professional to behave this way!! Now, the doctor who actually helped and the necessity of the test. The next morning we were able to get into another endodontist. When my wife described what happened with Dr Bernstein, the new endodontist said he would NEVER use that test on someone coming in complaining about cold sensitivity. The new doctor tested her teeth with an QTip and some cold water. He did the root canal, and an hour after arriving her tooth pain was fixed. Soooo... You see Dr Bernstein needlessly and maliciously used an extremely painful, unnecessary test and got mad when my wife pushed back against it. He is, in my opinion, an ego manic!! And perhaps even has a sadistic streak. He should not be in practice, period! If you enjoy ego maniacal doctors, who get angry if you ask any questions or even slightly push back on anything they say - by all means Dr Bernstein is for you. However, if you want a competent doctor who won't demand the he be allowed to hurt you... Find another provider!

This high level of service and concern carries through the rest of the office in every step of the process. Inarguably dental needs for mo st people are among our highest anxiety causing medical procedures. Comprehensive's staff Doctors including Elizabeth Rojas and Andrew Martin and assistants, Trey Ford to name one, are acutely aware and sensitive to this and offer constant reassurance and updates as to what they are doing and timing in the current process. While dental work is costly the expense at Comprehensive is offset by, as is included in their office's name, the provision of comprehensive services, making costly and time consuming referrals unnecessary. I must admit that the extent of procedures currently planned are the result of 30 years of neglect on my part but knowing that all of the work will be carried out by one staff in one location make the experience easier. Thank you Comprehensive, Cindy and James Young

Doctor (emoji clap hands) Van (emoji clap hands) Dyke (emoji clap hands)…read more I called in late-ish one evening to see if they could fit me in the next morning, even though I wasn't a patient. I had some horribly painful new fillings from another dentist in town (*cough* hack job), and they were causing jaw discomfort. They were not smooth at all, and the fillings were too high, causing issues with my bite. I'd been back three times to have assorted messed-up fillings fixed, to no avail. Dr. Van Dyke's team was super sympathetic and found a small window of time for me the next morning. I came in with my nerves totally shot and feeling a little gaslit, like maybe I didn't actually have problems with my teeth, but I was imagining them at this point. Dr. Van Dyke sat me down, took a look and completely agreed with me. He took what little time he had and fixed my bite, and smoothed out another filling that was bothering me because it was left rough. He noted that the high filling he fixed had left one of my molars loose (!!!!!!!!!) and asked me to come back for a follow up a month later to see if it would "tighten up". All told, he made me feel better that I wasn't crazy AND he fixed the problem for me. I left feeling vindicated, much happier and more at peace with my mouth in general. His staff was so sweet, patient and kind and the office itself is nicely appointed. It's clean and quiet, which is very soothing. Many people fear the dentist, but Dr. Van Dyke is gentle and kind and I would recommend him to anyone. PS I went back a month later and the molar is fine now :)
