No significant changes in the 29 years my wife and I have been eating here. Still mostly yellow paint, easy to spot. Still very clean. Mr. Mac is still the greeter and general all around helper. Probably the sweetest man who ever lived. The oversized pork barbecue sandwich has a little slaw on the bottom bun and big enough to feed two, the french fries are tasty and the serving adequate for three people. The beans are excellent. The chili, if you like small cubes of meat rather than ground beef, is OK but not spicy enough for me. The corn bread is a lot like my mother's, not too sweet like most in Virginia. The winter crowd is small compared to summer, so the service is quick. The owner, son of the original, is working in the kitchen, keeping things the way they have always been. I'll be back. While we have been homebound we have been making an effort to order take out and support local businesses during this weird period we are all experiencing. We decided to order from Pierce's even though it's a little further out but it was definitely worth the drive. We ordered the pulled chicken sandwich and the brisket sandwich which were both tender and delicious. The coleslaw and beans were also delicious. The only thing we didn't enjoy were the collard greens. It just wasn't my preferred taste but I'm pretty picky when it comes to collard greens. I'll definitely be back here again! read more

Although this place came highly recommended and was busy when we arrived, the service at the counter was rude and flippant. Several of the guests who placed online or phone in orders , like we did, arrived but were not aware we needed to check in before they would complete our order. Even after checking in it still took another 10 minutes which was well over our pickup time. When I pointed out that there is no sign telling us to check in, the woman behind the counter said in a very sharp and rude tone that it said to on line. When I said I didn't see that and suggested a sign might be useful as so many of the customers had the same issue, she just blew me off and went on about her other business. The pulled pork sandwich is piled high and a delicious meal, but you can't go wrong with the ribs. Mac and cheese and greens for sides. Pierce's is a staple of the area, and I've been coming here for years. Not sure why it's so low on Yelp, but it definitely deserves more than 3.5 stars. It's almost always packed, and the food is consistently awesome. The pork bbq dinner is the way to go, with 8 ounces of bbq, coleslaw, hushpuppies, and fries. Even Bill Clinton has stopped off Interstate 64 to grab a bite here, and rumor has it, he even picked up an extra pack of hushpuppies for his friend, Monica. read more

After living in Texas for 5 years, I learned that the best BBQ can be found in small, off the main drag places that don't look like much on the outside. Pierces fits the bill and I thoroughly enjoyed my pulled pork sandwich! The service is great, there's plenty of seating even though it looks small from the outside. This has got to be the worst Bbq place I've ever been to. Many people had recommended us to visit this restaurant while in Williamsburg, I also saw good reviews on yelp. Maybe we got there so late (8:30pm) we all ordered racks of ribs and they were so hard to chew on. There was no" fall off the bone" like my imagination. Not sure what went wrong but it was a horrible meal. We also got fries and chicken fingers: also bad. I think the only thing that we liked was corn on the cob. Great service but horrible food. It's been a few years since I've been here but they definitely don't disappoint with BBQ other than I feel like portions are a bit smaller than I remember but that didn't stop us from enjoying it. The pulled pork BBQ and Chopped chicken BBQ were delicious and the fries I'm a sucker for those and couldn't help myself . The ribs were good but definitely on the small side . We live in Colorado now so only get here when we are in town but I just found out they will ship overnight! Finally I can get good BBQ in Colorado!!!! Anyway, food is always top notch and fresh. We stopped in on the way to bush gardens and had a really great mean, the service was incredibly fast and friendly and we were able to find a seat even when there was a packed house. We hadn't been in almost 20 years so decided to stop for an early dinner while visiting Williamsburg. Their burgers are outstanding and well worth the wait! The ribs were meaty and tasty. The pork was just ok - but I'm from eastern NC so it is hard to eat it anywhere else :) the sides were all hot and fresh - and plentiful! Check your bag well before you tell them something is missing because chances are you are wrong and it's there (how I missed seeing an entire Brunswick stew is beyond me LOL). You'll see this oasis on the service road to your right, and your eye will be caught by the bright colors. Go ahead and stop on in. The brisket is fork tender. The pork barbecue is equally delicious. The slaw is of the finely minced variety and does not disappoint. My only suggestion would be to switch over to fresh cut fries. The crinkle cut ones served here are good, but fresh cut would really make the food presentation that much better. That's right baby - 5 stars. We don't hand these out willy-nilly either. But we just couldn't help ourselves. Knowing that Pierce's has been a Williamsburg favorite for YEARS, and thus always busy during lunch time, we phoned our order ahead. The restaurant is "off the beaten path", so ordering in advanced gives us more time to site down and enjoy the meal on our lunch break before having to trek 10-15 minutes back to the office. We ordered two Saloon Special's (the cheeseburger combo). Allow me to let you in on a secret that only the locals know--order a cheeseburger and put BBQ on it... We split a 1/2 pint of the BBQ so we could add some to the cheeseburger, and my goodness... Pierce's may be known for their BBQ, but these are also one of the best burger joints in Williamsburg. The BBQ hack is just an extra bonus, but their BBQ is legit, too (I'm a fan of the Super Doc personally.) So yea, Pierce's is legendary eats in Williamsburg. If you're traveling from out of town, it's worth the extra journey to stop by, you won't regret it! read more

You walk in and feel like you went back in time, somewhere in the 80's, that's a good thing. Person taking your order is always pleasant, always. My order usually consists of their brisket sandwich and their ribs. The brisket sandwich is served on what I believe to be the most excellent of buns. While the brisket it self can be dry at times, its usually juicy and can be accompanied with their hot sauce for a delicious kick. Regarding their ribs, its on the drier side, which I like. I hate those fall off the bone ribs served at chain restaurants, where it's obviously steamed or over cooked. Pierces ribs are lean, flavorful, and have that perfect chew. Its somewhere between a wet/dry, and it definitely works! If in Williamsburg, this should definitely be on your list, it's always on mine! read more

It's our second time in Virginia and a local at the resort told us to stay away from chains while on vacation. In comes Yelp to the rescue, Pierce's Pitt BBQ let's see what you got. Our order was taken by a young gentleman named Nick, he was charming and knew the menu extensively. Being our first time at the restaurant he recommended a few local favorites and sized up a few side dishes to go along with them. We ended up ordering a BBQ pulled pork sandwich, half rack of ribs, the smoked brisket sandwich, and the brisket chili. For the sides we settled on the Mac and cheese, an ear of corn on the cob, and some green beans. The kids ended up with chicken fingers and fries. The ribs were just heavenly, bone pulled out of the meat with such ease and the tangy and sweet and slightly hot BBQ sauce was perfect. The BBQ pulled pork sandwich disappeared from my plate faster than anything I've ever seen. Adding the coleslaw to the sandwich was a great recommendation from Nick. The most surprising menu item was the brisket chili. I've had some amazing chilli in my time and we even make a few variations at home, but Brisket and chilli is a match made in heaven and Pierces BBQ pit nailed it. So much flavor in each bite and packed full of juicy smoked brisket. Vacation just started and I don't want to leave without another helping at Pierce's. Definitely 5 stars!! Happy eating. read more
