It was straight-up order-at-the-counter home-cooked feeling of yum. I had pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese, and carrot cake and it was everything I dreamed of. SO had ribs and we were worried at first because they were hard to cut apart, but still ended up being succulent to the bone! I probably caught covid here, however, as there were too many patrons inside and those waiting for carrying out like me had old hicks maskless eating next to us. Vinegar alert!! The BBQ sauce is very heavy on the vinegar side, I guess that way we can convince ourselves that it's for weight loss? Every thing we got was fine, pretty ok. The french fries were krinkle cut and it was nice and crispy. It's worth going if you don't know what to have. A BBQ place that probably survives more on tourist visits than local. The BBQ pork is average at best, nothing special or noteworthy. It is red sauced and finely chopped. The pork shanks are quite good, think of them as "pork wings" sort of like meaty chicken wings. Four pork shanks are about equal to 10-12 wings The specials have good portions of sides. BBQ chicken is pretty tasty. Definitely skip the brunswick stew. It is a thin vegetable soup with a couple of small bits of chicken. The place is crowded on weekends with rude shoppers and tourists that: 1) think they own the tables 2) believe it is their birthright to sit and stay long after they have finished eating in the already cramped dining area 3) yell at each other in accents that are obviously not local 4) totally ignore other patrons standing with loaded food trays looking for a table 5) think nothing of pushing their way in front of people patiently standing at the drink station If there is more than one person, send one to secure a table and the other to order once you get a table. Get ready to jostle like you are going for an NBA rebound around the drink station and use your MMA or WWE skills to survive the dining area. read more

I really don't know if they can call it bbq. The food is bland. Little or not smoke taste. Bread was stale. It tastes like microwave bbq from the grocery store. Our go to barbecue place in Williamsburg. Pulled pork with coleslaw is my favorite. They also have very good French fries & homemade desserts. Decent burgers & chicken also. Very casual atmosphere. They will be busy at meal times. I'm in a wheelchair & I can get in ok, but they could improve their accessibility. It's pretty bumpy getting through the door, but they do have a ramp. Wow! I saw good reviews but while in Williamsburg there are so many great places to eat Pierces wasn't on my list. Of all the places we ate at this week, Pierces was our favorite and the cheapest meal. Spent on average $120-160 for 4 people per meal at other restaurants. At Pierces we spent $40 and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal the most compared to all the places we ate at this week. Place was exceptionally clean too. Staff nice and helpful. I had pulled pork sandwich & fries. Hubby had beef brisket that defined the term "melt in your mouth". Son had hamburger that was big and very good. read more

My friend took me here on the drive from Virginia Beach to Richmond, and I can't say I was disappointed with the stop. We shared a pulled pork sandwich with slaw, and it was delicious. An excellent palate-cleansing barbeque experience after yesterday's debacle at Red Hot and Blue. It is still tourist-friendly/near-the-interstate barbeque, not amazing-smoke-magic barbeque, but unlike some of its competitors in that genre, it was not upsettingly bad. The pork has some texture and a little bit of taste, the collards were nice with some hot sauce, the beans were flavorful (once I added salt). And the service was great. A good place to stop if you're hungry, but not worth a special trip. read more

We stopped in to get a quart of Chicken BBQ for Dinner. We also bought a quart of Potato Salad. My family has eaten Pork BBQ there numerous times and it was very good. So you understand our surprise and DISAPPOINTMENT when I began to serve it to my family and it had numerous chunks of chicken skin and fat pieces. Which meant I had to go through and pick those pieces out before putting the BBQ on our buns. It made my stomach queasy so I was only able to get down 1/2 a BBQ bun. I would think when charging $30.00 for a quart each that they would have picked it by hand very carefully! We don't mind paying that price (which we did find a bit excessive) for the convenience of not having to cook it ourselves. But having said that we do expect top quality food when charged top quality prices. To conclude I would only eat the Pork BBQ there. read more

Stopped by for an early lunch on the way to Norfolk. Was taking a Pic of the Smokehouse when the staff invited me to stand in the doorway and see the smokers in operation! I love the smell of hickory smoke in the morning! Had the Pulled Pork Dinner. Pork and Sauce was great, hush puppies tasted like hush puppies should. Slaw was tangy and not too sweet. My only recommendation would be to serve fresh cut fries vs frozen - I love the crunch of fresh cut double fried. I would definitely go back - some of the best Q in the South! read more

Here's the deal, i'm not a huge fan of Carolina (Vinegar based BBQ) so i'm a bit biased. The fries were crispy and delicious. The cookies are moist and wonderful. I love the lemonade on a warm summer day. I'm a big fan of the bbq'ed chicken. If you're looking for better than average pulled pork, Carolina style, this is a good place to go. read more

3.5 Stars---I give them 3+ stars for the pulled pork and crinkle cut fries and 5 stars for the hushpuppies! I have been going to Pierce's for years and other than the aforementioned items honestly the rest doesn't even matter. For $7.95 you get a sandwich, fries (or any side you wish...I usually get the hushpuppies), a drink and a cookie. It may not be the best barbecue you will ever have, but it makes a great stopping point when you are traveling up and down I64. The Hushpuppies are just plain great! read more

I happen to ask a resident of Williamsburg where the best place was for BBQ and she suggested this place. Oh yeah...good stuff! Their sauce is sweet but yet with a little bit of a zing at the end. I had the pulled BBQ chicken dinner with their hush puppies, baked beans, Cole slaw, crinkle fries, and ribs. This wasn't all for me. I was splitting it:-) The ribs were literally falling off of the bone. No silverware necessary for these! The Pitt makes their own BBQ sauce which you can purchase. The staff is very friendly and are quick at wiping down the tables to get people seated. If I'm ever in the area again and have an itch for BBQ, this is the place I'll be eating. read more

My husband and I reeeaaaaaally like Pierce's. I'd eat their pulled chicken dinner every week if it was calorie and guilt free. My husband slobbers over their pulled pork dinner. It's not just their BBQ, either...their sides are just as delicious. The hush puppies are nicely deep-fried, slightly sweet, and shaped like thick baby carrots for perfect two-bite consumption. I use my thick-cut fries as the vessel to eat the yummy cole slaw, which is light, tangy, and crunchy. They are always super crowded during lunch and dinner hours, but they have an over sized parking lot (which they need), and their lines move very quickly. Their counter clerks are friendly, helpful, and efficient, and they always have staff cleaning up around the condiment and drink stations. The crowd at Pierce's is a good mix of locals, tourists, and folks passing by on I-64, and if you have a pet, no worries...they have picnic tables scattered around their property for outdoor seating. My husband and I usually get their food to-go, and it holds up just fine for the short drive home. They aren't stingy about saucing up their meats, but we always pump several extra containers of their tangy, thick, and sweet BBQ sauce, which is self-serve at the condiment station. read more

You know, it is what it is. My boyfriend's colleague down south of Williamsburg recommended Pierce's as the go-to BBQ joint in the area. So, we hit it up. I was skeptical at first, expecting a restaurant with sit down service, instead of the counter where you order then pick everything up. But the place was packed! My fears were immediately allayed. I had some trouble reading the menu with my less than stellar eyes, and finally settled on a pulled BBQ chicken sandwich and hush puppies. The boy ordered half a rack of ribs, green beans, and cornbread. And sweet tea! BBQ is not my favorite kind of food, but it's delish when I'm in the mood. The pulled chicken was on a soft white roll, and went down really easily. The ribs were "fall off the bone tender" - direct quote! - and polished off. Even though the hush puppies were highly recommended, I wasn't a big fan due to their small size and the fact that they're more crispy than soft in the middle. I prefer hush puppies from Long John Silver's - less crisp, more yummy inner filling. The green beans were the favorite of the sides and bursting with flavor and the cornbread was good in the little muffin forms, but would've been better with butter. Pierce's was a great place to stop at on the drive back home - and a nice prelude to a gas station stop at Dairy Queen. That's all. read more

I had high hopes for this place, but alas, it was not to be. The restaurant was clean but reminded me of a cafeteria. The seating were the plastic booths that you would find at a fast food place. I'm not sure how their barbeque is made, but there isn't the smell of fresh barbequed meat coming out of the kitchen. I had the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw and it was alright, but it was a little soggy and seemed like there was more sauce then meat. You can hardly taste the cole slaw even though I did see a small layer. Pierces is a mainstay in my family when it comes to good 'que in Virginia. Don't complicate what you order. Its simple. The pulled pork and the sauce are the star of the show. The sauce, which is a uniquely Virginia sweet vinegar, compliments the pork beautifully. Order the JCs Special for $8.75 plus tax, which includes the pulled pork sandwich (order it with onions and slaw), french fries (need salt), a cookie, and a drink. Some damn good Q! Our trips to OBX always include a stop. On the last stop I noticed they stopped the option of adding some ribs to a combo meal, but they now have shanks you can add-on. Ummmm yum! I like their sauce, and I'm not a saucey guy... I believe it has a hint of cloves in it. read more

You know you hit the right place when you step out of the car and get hit by a strong BBQ smell - yum. The place has all the usual suspects ranging from BBQ chicken to pulled pork to ribs. As for the combos, unfortunately the place doesn't seem to have a combo for the ribs (only comes in either half or full rack), but it does have one for everything else so you can at least sample their offerings. I really wish this place had a sampler plate though. I am guessing this place is known for their BBQ sandwich as just about everyone in the shop has one (which btw gets pretty packed during the lunch hour). We ended up ordering the kids meal pulled pork along with a half rack of ribs and ,for two people, the meal was okay in portion for the price. I found their ribs to be pretty good - the meat was quite tender and just fell off the bone. On the other hand, their pulled pork sandwich wasn't bad either, but a little too dry for my taste and required a healthy portion of bbq sauce.
