Pierce's way with pulled pork barbecue is their own and served with thrown sauce. I order a Jumbo with Slaw. The coleslaw comes on the barbecue. You can add additional sauce to taste. I also order a regular French fry. Pierce's crinkle cut fries are also delicious. They would be a contender in the French fry competition anywhere. The serving size is generous. A Jumbo and Fries will not leave you hungry. Pierce's barbecue sauce and hot sauce are available for purchase. You can also order frozen barbecue to take home. The route here from I-64 or Richmond Road is a bit circuitous but worth it. read more

I was on the receiving end of takeout from Pierce's Pitt BBQ, in Williamsburg, VA. My sister and bro-lo stopped in on their way back from Richmond to carry the excellent St. Louis Ribs, Chicken, Pulled Pork and Brunswick Stew back to their home, where son o' mine and yours truly awaited their return with hunger pangs. Thus, I didn't get to see the actual restaurant, nor experience the aromatics flowing from the kitchen and smoker. Nonetheless, the victuals were mouthwatering, with their magic sauces announcing themselves long before we opened the containers to actually see what they held. The ribs were succulent and pull off the bone tender. The pulled pork plentiful and a lovely chew, and the chicken still moist and full of smokey flavor. Didn't get a sample of the stew, because bro-lo threatened to shoot anyone who interfered with his ravenous consumption. Point taken, Bro! Hands off! The sides were also very good, with special commendation for the baked beans, which were smooth, tart and mixed with cut up hotdogs. Cole slaw was industrial, but a nice chill to offset all the savory action of the rest. Next visit, I want to see this operation for myself so I can experience the whole gestalt that is Pierce's, and appreciate the grub right from the kitchen when it is at its best. We had to go to Williamsburg today and decided to stop at Pierce's for lunch. We were a little nervous as it was very crowded and a long line to order. The line moved quickly and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had the bbq pork sandwich and fries. Everything was delicious. We have eaten there several times and it is consistently delicious. Of course bbq is very specific in taste but we really like Pierce's. We placed our order to go. On nice days they have a lot of picnic tables around and we enjoy sitting on the far side of the parking lot and eating our food outside. I find the inside feels a chaotic so I usually prefer to eat outside or in our car - a little away from the comings and goings of all the guests. read more

Maybe the family sold the place. It was disgusting. The place still has the vibe but I had the brisket sandwich (17.00) and could not eat it. I took two bites and almost choked. My husband had one too and he ate it but . . . He does not like scenes and stopped me from giving it back. A slab of dry, tough beef with tendons still intact on a dry roll. $34.00. My family has very few go-to places for ordering take-out and Pierce's certainly makes that list. The food is consistently exceptional and prepared the way I like it. They have been around for a long time and continue to thrive for a reason. My typical order is the Pork Bar-B-Que Dinner with fries, collard greens, and hush puppies. The pulled pork is always moist and flavorful, the fries are crispy and not overly salty or seasoned like many other places, the collard greens are very nice, and the hush puppies are wonderful. Pulled chicken and pork, like ribs seemed vinegar based and easily forgettable. With each, there were no noticeable smokiness or spice/heat. Kale was good, and other sides, acceptable. She gave a snarky response, "it will be called when ready. We don't start them until you check in." Fine. I get that, but I've sat here longer than anyone. Got a few recommendations and ordered my meal... made it back to the hotel and was pretty disappointed. The sand which was pretty bland and the sides were overly salted. There was plenty of parking, lots of indoor and outdoor tables, with a relaxed family style dining, and menu choices for the whole family, including a great children's menu. We ordered a half rack of ribs, a pulled chicken plate, pulled chicken sandwiches, kids hot dogs, and shared sides of coleslaw, potato salad, hushpuppies, and green beans. There were so many fries in our meals we couldn't finish them all-definitely enough to share! The sauce is good-but a vinegar based, so not a favorite of everyone in our group. The only negative is that the tables only sit 4, so we had to sit at separate tables across the aisles and share food back and forth. I absolutely love their Barbecue ! The service is awesome, quick, friendly & efficient. I don't know how they do it as busy as they are all the time. The restaurant is spotless, the condiments & drink area is never empty if anything and us spotless as well. There is a person staged there to make sure, soft drunks, sweet & unsweetened tea, coffee and condiments are flowing. Also never any trash falling out of the receptacles. The place was packed with what appeared to be satisfied customers. The seating is a little tight, but I get it. When the food is as good as Pierce's, its hard to get people to wanna leave! Lol I had the pulled chicken, hush puppies, fries and cole slaw. The meal also came with corn bread which was really good. Everything tasted great, but the BBQ hot sauce made it even better. The prices weren't too steep and the service was fast and courteous. Honestly, for what we paid we got a very good amount of food. Our entire group of 6 ended up taking food home. Pierce's is a local standard. It's a must stop for many traveling along 64. It can get VERY busy. Luckily, I stopped in late December and close to when they opened. Don't get me wrong, it was still plenty busy but not packed. We split a jumbo BBQ sandwich with white slaw, a hot dog, and some onion rings (and a pint of cold BBQ to go, because you're gonna want more). The sandwich was really good. The BBQ is well-sauced but they've got hot sauce on the table if you want to kick it up. We actually scooped some of the BBQ and slaw from the sandwich onto the hot dog to create a BBQ dog. It was delicious and there was still plenty of meat on the sandwich. Onion rings were crispy and hot. If you visit the area, people are probably gonna ask if you stopped at Pierce's. I've had this Bbq place bookmarked for some time. The hubs and I don't frequent the Williamsburg area often, but when we do I make sure we grab some good grub. The visit was during Labor Day weekend, and the parking lot was bustling with customers. I was pretty excited as the smell of smoked meat permeated the air. Upon entering we were smacked into a line. I thought it was one to place an order, but it was one to pick up food. We then walked to the front where the cashiers were, and I looked all over for the menu. Dependent on where you were stationed to give your order it was hard to view it. The eatery is huge and we were at the far end right where the menu was meat by the pound. The one we needed was in the middle and I was cranking my neck to read it. The lady taking our order was umm not friendly or conveyed any customer service. She was an older employee, and seemed frustrated that I couldn't decide. I felt rushed and bad that I couldn't read the menu fast enough, so I opted for a brisket sandwich. There was no-one in back of us so I thought we had more time. The hubs ordered the 4oz pulled chicken, lemon pound cake, Mac and cheese, and potato salad. We paid and got our number to wait on the second line for pickup. Luckily, we found a small table available. The place was packed and loud. The hubs heard our number being called, and within a few minutes our spread was ready to be devoured. The 4oz pulled chicken sandwich is perfect for little kids with small appetites, and those that don't want to overeat. There was pieces of fat in the one we received, and the chicken was ok. I recommend getting a larger size for adults. The lemon pound cake was slightly hard and dry. I did enjoy the lemon frosting. My brisket sandwich was lukewarm, and somewhat dry on top of a very squishy wet hoagie bun. I was surprised since there was an abundance of customers ordering food, so I thought the turnover rate would be high for meat, and I assumed that there was quality control to ensure that it was coming out fresh and hot. The bbq sauce helped kick up the flavor with hints of cinnamon, but it was ok. The Mac and cheese was the highlight of our meal. The Mac pasta was soft, and the cheese was creamy all around. I would order a tub of this as a side. The potato salad was great as well. It had the right amount of Mayo, firm to soft potatoes, and chopped onions. I wished we ordered coleslaw as they seem to have perfected the sides. Overall an ok dining in experience. We would come back. Maybe it was an off day, but I'd like to try their other offerings, and I'd recommend checking the menu online before going. read more

I don't know how else to say this, but pierce's is fine. Serviceable even. I don't regret going here, but I don't know that I'll rush back. I did think it was weird that, given back in 1996, I lived in Williamsburg for the summer and not once did anyone suggest going here. Or took me here. This was my first time coming here. Clearly they have a good reputation- the place was jam packed at 1:30pm on a Sunday and this place is like a machine getting people in, fed, and out. Maybe that's my problem. Good BBQ shouldn't feel like a machine. I got a 1/2 rack of ribs and a side salad. The ribs were cooked well and juicy and tender. I will admit I wasn't into their house sauce which is thin and sweet and mildly spicy. And if you're not into it too bad. It's everywhere. I guess I was hoping for a "these guys know what they're doing" kind of experience and what I felt I got was a "here's your ribs what's your hurry" kind of experience from people who have all been through it 97,000 times that day. read more

Honestly most locals absolutely love this place. I feel like I'm a bit different and do not prefer my BBQ to be doused in a sauce. We got the pulled pork sandwich meal with drink and fries. They have their own barbecue sauce which is sweet and spicy that you can add on. They're pulled pork is in a sauce so I don't usually add any extra sauce on. You are able to have the coleslaw added to your burger but I opted for it on the side. It is a very small cup. I did not like it, it was not sweet.. more of a tangy coleslaw. Their sweet tea is really good and their cup is a plastic reusable cup so that is nice. The staff was super nice. I have been here several times. I forgot to mention that we did order a chicken tender kids meal that was a few chicken tenders with a lot of fries. You go to the counter and order your food and then they will call your number on your ticket for you to pick it up at the window. A lot of french fries came with the order. I'm pretty health-conscious so I do not ever go here often, only if I'm up this way and each time I kind of regret it. But if you do like your barbecue meat soaked in a sauce and a large portion of french fries and some good sweet tea this is the place for you. Last month, one of the local news outlets profiled this place as part of their Friday Flavors segment regarding BBQ. They have been opened since the 1970s and has gained notoriety in Hampton Roads. Since it was a nice weekend, I thought my girlfriend and I would go check them out. When we initially arrived, there were a lot of cars parked and saw outside seating. Some people were even eating in their vehicles. Our first thought was that inside dining was packed. After all, we went on a Saturday afternoon during the summer. But once we walked in, there were plenty of tables. So for my order, I picked the pulled pork platter with fries, cole slaw and hush puppies along with a side of cornbread. And my girlfriend picked smoked chicken with mac-and-cheese, french fries and hush puppies. Overall, pretty good. I'm not a huge pulled pork fan, but I can dig this. The BBQ flavor taste like vinegar. My take is their style is more Carolina BBQ, which is a staple here in Virginia. The fries were crisp and hot. The hush puppies were really good. Since I was full, I decided to give my cornbread to my girlfriend, who enjoyed her meal. (Note: she tasted the pulled pork. Since she doesn't like vinegar, she almost spit mine out....LOL!!)
