A group of 10 of us went for lunch this week, and everyone enjoyed their meals. Andrew was an excellent server. When asked about preparation and ingredients in regards to food allergies, he always went to ask the chef. Our group ordered the fish and chips, burger, Count of Monte Cristo sandwich, chicken salad (which came in a tortilla bowl), and the Reuben sandwich. It was a quiet lunch as we were enjoying our meals. They also were awesome in providing separate checks for everyone. A fun feature: dog bowls filled with popcorn were brought to the table to enjoy while our food was being prepared! This is a new location for the Hound's Tale. Me and my "Usual Suspects" made our way out to The Hound's Tale, and it didn't disappoint. The space hits you right away... cozy without trying too hard. Eclectic art, warm finishes, and a staff that knows how to read the room and keep things moving without hovering. Comfortable. Intentional. Dialed in. Now... it just so happened to be everyone's "cheat day," so discipline never stood a chance. Within minutes, the table looked like a comfort food summit... bacon cheeseburgers, loaded hot dogs, fries doing what fries do, and of course... the gratuitous side salad to keep things respectable. Came here for after work drinks. Service here was good. The server checked on us occasionally to make sure we were enjoying our drinks. I chose the Inkjet cider, which was delicious, tasting like berries without being too sweet or hoppy. The live music seemed to be having trouble with the speakers because there would be a high pitched feedback. We were seated very quickly and our server, Roberto, gave us an appropriate amount of time to settle in and then he took our drink orders, exotic water for both of us. We then perused the menu and realized that it changes depending upon the holiday. I got the classic Reuben with cornbeef and a side of unsalted French Fries. Stopped by for lunch today and had an enjoyable meal. I had the fish and chips, while my wife had a classic corned beef reuben. While the menu wasn't elaborate, there were enough options to make it interesting. My fish (cod) was cooked perfectly, and the portion was more than ample. The Reuben was just right, and fries were fresh and plentiful. While we didn't partake today, they have an extensive drink menu with a wide variety of beers and cocktails, and a nice amount of mocktails so everyone can enjoy! read more

Scrolled on yelp to try to find somewhere new to eat. Came across this restaurant. It is near colonial Williamsburg, near the campus of William and mary. It is amongst other restaurants and shops. Upon arrival, we walked inside, however we decided to sit outside as the weather was nice. The inside is a fairly decent size, which dim lighting. They have a full sized bar as well. There is limited outside seating, about 2 or 3 tables. Upon arrival, we received complimentary popcorn. The menu has lots of different options to choose from. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. We started out with the alligator bites, which were really good. We enjoyed both of our entrees. I would definitely come back. read more

We had a new server which he did a pretty good job for the first day. However the lamb chops were not very good. Too sweet and not savory. We asked for the sauce for our salmon to be on the side and it didn't come that way. The server caught the mistake by the chef and asked if we still wanted it, in which we said we wanted it on the side. Well they wiped it off instead of recooking. A little disappointed with that. We did get a free desert, but for the price we paid it was not up to par. read more

Welp.... I'm excited to say this was good. Almost 4 stars. I went because of a feature photo on yelp... but the experience was not great. The fried gator was interesting (my first time) The Wong tong Mac n cheese was ok nothing special The burger is where I had to reduce it to 3 stars from 4. I couldn't finish it.... It just was not desirable. Ok taste, it was dry, not enough cheese sauce and just borderline burnt. The beer (Virgina Pilsner) was cool. No issues there. My friend had a pasta with mushrooms / beef which was watery and the mushrooms were bad. Horrible taste. The Williamsburg food market is tough... especially in that part of town a block away from the college.... The service was exceptional to be honest so that's a plus. read more

We had dinner at Hounds Tale on a Saturday night in the summer at 5pm. By the time we left, around 7pm it was very busy. Overall service was good. You can tell that there is still a shortage of servers as the night got busier. The atmosphere is fun and heavily dog themed from the art to the menu selections. The bourbon menu was pretty good, and most folks will find something they like. We had the crab dip for an appetizer. The smoky flavor was wonderful but the dip itself was a little too creamy for our preference. My partner got the Masala Chicken, and I had the Poke Tuna Nachos. Both were fresh, and very good. The chicken was marinated and tender and the coconut rice was a nice sweet addition. The tuna was very fresh and the wasabi sauce was not overly spicy. We both started out with beer. I then had the Spaniel Sangria and an Espresso Martini. The sangria was absolutely delicious. The espresso martini left something to be desired. If you're from a larger metropolitan area eating here, I'd suggest not ordering it, because you will likely be disappointed. Overall a very lovely experience and we will likely be back to visit again. read more

made a pit stop on our way down to the beach and so glad we stumbled across this place. we were with our dog and 1 year old and Destiny made us feel at home right away. food/drink - started off with the downward dog cocktail & ordered the burger and tikki masala for entrees. both really good, didn't expect the tikki masala to hit but was pleasantly surprised. environment - there's indoor/outdoor seating that are both dog friendly. inside there's plenty of treats/toys you can select for your furry friend. my favorite part of this place was the hospitality we felt, never felt rushed and Destiny did a great job walking us through the menu and recommendations. will definitely be back. read more

A short review as we only stopped in for a beer and rest on a pleasant afternoon in September. They serve a limited menu and are tied to a similar location just up the street a couple of buildings, also called The Hounds Tale. What made this such a memorable afternoon was the little dog wandering freely in the place. A friend of the bartender. A sweet little guy who so much reminded us of 2 wee friends we left at home. But it was mostly the simple 'stop in have a pint' atmosphere. There are only a couple of "must go to's" if we have a chance to return. First time here and overall had a nice meal and would return based on service and food quality. We arrived right when they opened and had a reservation. Got seated right away and our server came over pretty quickly to get our drink orders. When drinks were brought out, complimentary popcorn was also brought out in cute dog bowls. Did I mention the restaurant is all dog themed?!? It's cute. Now for the food: Warm pimento cheese with an upgrade to a pretzel was very good! Pretzel was piping hot and the warmed up pimento cheese was very tasty. Mussels-Husband enjoyed it and the server was great about bringing out some extra melted butter for him. My wife and I went to the new location this past Saturday night, February 21, 2026. In short, the food was very good but the service was very bad. It looked like they were extremely short of staff. We were seated and did not see our waiter for about 15- 20 minutes. It took almost 30 minutes to get our food orders in. We were greeted upon being seated and they bring you a bowl of popcorn to snack on while you wait. Ours were all kernels so we didn't eat them. We weren't given silverware when seated, and no one had paid attention so my husband had to go up to the hostess stand and get us some silverware. It's pretty dark inside and they're able to accommodate groups. It does get a little loud inside and may seem crowded for some people. We started off with the brussels sprouts and I remembered having them a couple years ago loving them! They were pretty good with some tomato sauce at the bottom of the dish, but there were bits and pieces that were extremely salty. I ordered the glazed salmon and asked for medium well, but you can see that's not medium well. I also asked if it were possible to substitute the carrots with their seasonal vegetables due to being allergic, and she said yes, but there were clearly no changes to the dish. The glaze the put over the salmon was sour as well. I tried some of my husband's fries and they were extremely salty as well, but he enjoyed the burger and said it was just a standard burger. read more

Atmosphere is very cozy and eclectic, loved the subtle-ish dog theme and the popcorn served in little doggie bowls. We sat at the bar and had excellent, quick service. Pretty dead on a Wednesday night, but most of the was already closed by early evening. The deviled eggs were fantastic. Beer flights are available and you can pick the brews (awesome). I got the chicken tikka masala and regretted it- it's more sweet and very brown than I'm used to. Cooked and presented perfectly but not the flavors I expected. Incredible food! The pork schnitzel was 10/10, it was perfectly crispy on every bite, the mushroom gravy is well worth the extra cost, and the pickled cabbage was to die for. Not to mention the potato salad was perfect, sour tangy, I couldn't have gotten a better plate. We also got the hot crab dip, and although it came out cold at first, they took it back immediately and fixed it. The pretzel and cheese was great, the ribeye was cooked to perfection, burrata and tomato salad was great too. The only dish that was sub par was the Korean short ribs, they could have been marinated better. But everything else was wonderful! The inside of the place is covered in dog stuff it's super fun and cute. They serve you popcorn in a dog dish as a starter for free, super cute! Next time I'm in Virginia we will be back!! read more

Decked out in funny dog pictures and dog attire in all its glory is just the start to the wonderful experience of The Hound's Tail. The girlfriend and I started with fried brussel sprouts that were remarkable. We also split an order of the Hot Crab Dip which was served with pita bread. I guess we did not get our fill of Crab or liked it so much we also ordered the Crab Cake entree lol. Crab cakes were served with delicious asparagus, onions, and rice. Healthy and delicious was the motif of the night. They even serve the now famous Orange Crush drink that was born in Ocean City, MD and has spread down the eastern seaboard to be a mainstay in VA beach. We ended up coming back here on another night for karaoke which they host in the back with outdoor dining once every two weeks or so. It was a great vibe to relax for some drinks and work up the courage to partake in some karaoke. Family owned restaurant that seems to be doing all the right things. Highly recommend you stop in if you are in the Williamsburg, VA area. As always people SYOY!!! read more

We were in Williamsburg for a few nights. Our first night we had dinner here. It was great. Fun find. My husband is a dog nut so he love all the dog decor. The food and service were great. I had the most interesting salad, and it was delicious. A watermelon wedge, sliced heirloom tomato, a wedge of Barada cheese with a pesto, balsamic vinegar glaze. I am going to try and re-create it at home. We also loved our entrees. If we ever get back to Williamsburg we will definitely go back. read more

This was a cool spot that we happened upon while looking for a family friendly place were staying in the area. The reviews helped and the dog theme was both charming and more than expected. While the name would suggest that it is indeed a canine themed restaurant, I didn't think that there would be literal dog themed signage and what not all over the place. It wasn't so much to be annoying, it was just different than I expected. We were able to be seated quickly, they accommodated our group of 9, including five kids, and served us quickly. The servers were very kind and kept things moving so as to keep the troops at bay. The fried brussels sprouts, the pretzel with cheese and the pasta were all big hits. The burger was huge and while it could've used a little bit more seasoning on the meat, it was very good. They had live music with a two person band singing, who happened to be passing out pig toys. The kids have gotten a lot of use out of them, primarily throwing them at each other! The drinks were also solid. Not a lot of creativity on the menu, but end of the day we were just looking for something refreshing, and they accomplished that. Saved by an Angel This started out to be a lost cause. After driving and walking around for 35-45 minutes (mostly due to Yelp directions) we were not in a great mood when we found the tavern door. We had just rolled into town and weren't in the mood for a dog chase. Once inside we immediately thought this was not the dining establishment we had thought. Scrambled around for a drink or dinner menu for longer than seemed appropriate, but we were finally welcomed and presented with the evening's offerings. Though tempted to walk out unserved, Angel made her way over to our table, and we got a pretty dandy lager. Soon after that we had our grilled chicken masala, which was very tasty. We've been here twice and we sat at the bar both times. The bar manager Patty makes amazing drinks and everything is fresh. She has come up with some really good combinations, my favorite being the pear martini drink, but I can't remember the actual name. Patty was there both times we went and she always asks about special requests, like sweetness or spice level. It's so nice to have high quality drink options made with fresh ingredients and well thought out flavour combinations. We order different drinks and share them so we have tried several already- we've liked them all and I'm pretty picky. The flatbread crust is also on point, and it's a pretty decent size for the price. This is my favourite bar spot so far in Williamsburg. read more
