On our way back to DC after a week at the beach, we stopped by Pierce's Pitt Bar-B-Que for lunch. This stop helped break up the drive and I am always so excited to eat here since the food is always good. My bf and I both got the J.C. Special which includes a pulled pork sandwich layered with slaw, regular drink, and fries. I think this is a great deal! All of this was less than $10. My family and I recently went on a vacation to Williamsburg. Having heard great things about Pierce's and with a desire to avoid eating in restaurants due to Covid, we ordered a large takeout order, with the goal of providing meals or partial meals for a number of days. We ordered the brisket, ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken, collard greens, Mac and cheese, cole slaw, pimento cheese, hush puppies, corn bread, and rolls. (Like I said, this was meant to last a while). First, the good. Most of the food was pretty good. Our favorites were the sides, especially the hush puppies, collard greens, pimiento cheese, and rolls (which were all delicious, but all were fine) but some of the meats had some issues: The ribs taste good, but our particular rack had lots more tendons than I've had before, making them a little difficult to eat. The brisket was not good and was very expensive ($35/pound, I believe). Given the premium, I was really expecting this to be delicious, and it was decidedly not - rather, it was very dry and overcooked. It ended up being the thing we ate the least of, and that annoyed me. And just a little annoying - I bought something like $200 worth of bbq and when I asked for some extra sauce, they sent me to a pump next to the drink station to fill up little annoying plastic containers. I feel like they should have thrown some in. And, on the sauce, I liked it notwithstanding the little plastic cups, but it has a strong cinnamon flavor that I could see some people not liking and that did get old I like day 3. I'll probably go back if I'm in town again, but will be skipping the brisket and loading up on hush puppies! read more

Arrived at noon; very busy. No one cleaning off indoor tables as diners left although there are also picnic tables outside behind the parking lot. Cleaned our own table. Chicken tenders were good (crispy & well-seasoned); fries, not so much. Good cornbread. Did not try any BBQ. Plastic waste here is kind of unconscionable. All soda cups are non-recyclable plastic (souvenir cup material) as are dinner containers. BBQ sauce containers also. I have never been a big fan of bbq, but I really enjoyed coming to Pierce's. My friend, who lives in Williamsburg, told me that this bbq joint was once voted the best bbq in Virginia, and felt that this would give me a great Virginia experience, she was right. The exterior was simple, but what gave me instant notification that this place would be good was the amount of cars in the parking lot. Entering in, there was a long line, but it went by very quickly. I truly was overwhelmed with what to order, so I opted for the beef brisket dinner platter. My meal came with three sides, I had fries, Mac and cheese and hush puppies. I'm not a fry eater and realized too late the meal came with three sides instead of two, but that was no big deal. I probably would have ordered baked beans or a slice of corn bread. My Mac and Cheese tasty, but this was my first time trying a hush puppy and I loved it, so tasty. My meat was tender and delicious, and the bbq sauce had a very unique, sweet flavor. Definitely enjoyed my experience here. read more

My brother visited from Philly recently and said while he was here he wanted to make a trip up to Pierce's BBQ. He's lived in Philly for 15 years and it's been at least a decade since I've been to Pierce's myself. So I took a day off, which happened to be a Friday, and off to Williamsburg we went. Upon arriving around 11:30am there was a short line outside the door, because of course there always it, however they were limiting the number of people in the building due to Covid protocols. Good sign. The wait wasn't log at all and within a couple of minutes we had moved into the main line inside the counter area. Social distancing was definitely being observed and we patiently waited our turn to approach the counter. We each ordered a BBQ and Fries. Along with that we ordered hush puppies and a sandwich for to take back for Mom and my brother picked up some bottled sauces as well. While we waited for our order we filled our drinks and started looking for a table. Inside was at capacity so we looked outside and found a table in the shade right by where we parked. My brother took the drinks and occupied the table while I waited a couple more minutes for the meal. The wait was very short. So not to repeat myself to much, but it had been years since I had visited here. The food smelled so good and once I took my seat at the table the food was out of the bag. I smothered my sandwich in their house BBQ sauce and took a bite. Oooh so good! The crinkle cut fries were also plentiful and complimented the BBQ sandwich perfectly. I was a little disappointed with the hush puppies. Not because of the taste, but the amount. The bag of hushpuppies only contains 8 of them now. There used to be at least twice as many. That means my brother and I had 4 each... Oh well, lesson learned. 2 bags of hushpuppies in the future. I washed my lunch down with fresh lemonade. Pros: Fast service. Super friendly staff. Delicious food. Picnic table in the shade. Cons: None What a great lunch. Pierce's Pitt Bar-B-Que is a legendary restaurant in Williamsburg! For over 50 years, the food has been consistently great, so if you've never been there, you need to stop in. There are not too many tables inside so we've always gotten our food to go, but in nice weather, you can enjoy the picnic tables outside as well. The menu is simple with a fair selection: you place your order, pay, and get a number to wait until it's ready or you can order online and pick it up. We always get the jumbo pork sandwiches with cole slaw and have never been disappointed. The onion rings are cooked well and not soggy, and I adore their hush puppies! The food was okay. It was busy but the amount you got was not desirable. I counted the fries it was 15 and the pulled pork was about two tablespoons full (no bun as this was not a sandwich) and the Cole slaw was a mini cup and six mini hush puppies. Folks this was a dinner and based on the cost not worth it. Won't be back sorry, being chintzy is no longer acceptable in an inflated market. Wow, what a great surprise! We ate here multiple times during our Great Wolf Lodge stay! Their on-line system, super easy to use and efficient! The restaurant has made it really easy during COVID to order, pick up, and leave feeling safe and efficiently. The cutlery and napkins are self-serve but in the back a little tucked away but towards the exit only door. The staff overall are very friendly but those burgers were SPOT ON, wow the burgers were super affordable and so amazingly delicious! Couple of other notes, The BBQ chicken was good, but a little on the dryer side. The bbq sauce, I did get on the side, and it's a little bit on the runny/watery end for me as sauces go. However, it still tasted good, just not as viscous as I am used too. Overall, I'm glad that I've tried this place and look forward to going back when vacationing at GWL. read more

Drove down from Goochland County to bring out-of-town family to see the Historic Triangle sights. I used to see Pierce's YEARS ago on drives to The Pottery, but never stopped in. What a mistake on my part! The pulled BBQ chicken was delicious and tender. The chocolate layer cake was outstanding... tender crumb, rich flavor, and a ganache frosting -- all without any hint of chemical preservative flavors. Someone else in our party ordered a slice of the carrot cake that was also outstanding... subtle carrot flavor, no oiliness, and a cream cheese frosting that tasted great (as opposed to super-sweet). The ribs ordered by others in our party were deemed "OK" followed by "We prefer baby back ribs" and "I got an end piece that was very well-done/almost burnt." Both comments also come with the admission that it's personal preference and not a reflection on Pierce's Pitt BBQ. I would have taken that "burnt" end in a heartbeat and enjoyed every bite of it! read more

I had a pull pork sandwich with cold slaw, and although not very big it was really good. The sauce was tasty with a little Zang. The fries were a good size and very crispy. Given the amount of people eating here and a number of locals suggesting it, oh, and the fact that is has been around for so many years lead me to give this a shot. I do competition BBQ so I admit to probably being a little more picky at times, but also understanding of the challenges in bringing good quality BBQ to the mass quantity or scale that a restaurant requires. That all being said, Pierce's is probably the best BBQ in the area. However, that doesn't make it special to me. It was fine, it will do the job. It is serviceable BBQ. The prices reflect a fair price, good, but not premium. Decent sauce, more on the vinegar side of the spectrum. One time going was good for me. read more

I called to see if they're able to assist me in bringing it out to me since I am mobility challenged, and the gentleman was very happy to accommodate, which led me to give them an extra star for excellent customer service! If anything, I recall the sauce having a little more kick to it in the past, which I missed this time, but could have easily been fixed on my part with some hot sauce if I so chose. Based on popular review, I definitely had to try the pulled pork sandwich. I was first customer, a bit too early for lunch 10:30 AM on a Saturday but I have to get going on with my day. It's my first visit and I can tell that during the summer it's super crowded based on the chairs and umbrellas that they have outside. My lunch was delicious at first, warm and flavorful. 3.5 stars but rounded up. Pulled pork reminds me of the Lloyd's brand you find in the grocery store. What this means is that it is finely shredded and sitting in sauce. It comes with their vinegar based bbq sauce that has a slight kick to it. It is ok but I wouldn't write home about it. For sides I tried the mac n cheese, cole slaw, potato salad, and hush puppies. The hush puppies were the highlight. The mac n cheese tastes like Velveeta, the potato salad tastes like your grocery store deli, and the cole slaw was average. Tried some of a family member's brisket and it tasted better than I expected, but I was not going to pay supply chain issue prices. Decent spot but nothing overwhelming.
