I am all for rescuing animals, I love animals, and have been a foster for this rescue 3xs now, up until 3 weeks ago. But, according to the mgr. named Kim she stated to me, "Please understand that we are currently in the process of moving out of our facility and are significantly understaffed. As a volunteer-run organization, we are doing our best". Which to me isn't good enough, and at what cost? Bringing in dogs from Kentucky and then selling them for $600.00-$700.00 dollars isn't helping dogs find a nice home. Stop bringing in trucks of animals in until you clean up for rescue. They have had several complaints, just look them up. Even their fosters aren't being taken care of or RESPECTED! Until they can clean up their act, there are other great animal rescues out there. read more

We adopted a dog through Ruby Whiskers at the end of 2024. Originally our plan was to foster but we were given just 3 days to decide if she would be a good fit for our household, which isn't even enough time to decompress after transport but against our better judgement we adopted her. The vetting process for fostering was sending photos of our home, which I took off our real estate listing online (but honestly I could have taken anyone's photos and used them, because they never did a home visit or anything) Several months later after trying to work with her on our own unsuccessfully, we reached out to ruby whiskers basically as a plea for help or direction and they referred us to a trainer that they associate themselves with.. he flaked on us 3 separate times. By this time it was unfair to her and to us, because she was eating- yes eating everything inside and outside of our house, including her crate. We reached back out (because that's what they tell you to do when you want to rehome an animal from them) , their representative asked us to send photos of our dog and then after we did, they quite literally ghosted us. Unlike any other rescue we have ever worked with or volunteered for honestly. Would not recommend. read more

We adopted a wonderful cat from there but she has a MAJOR health problem that we need to go to an internal medicine specialist to correct. When we took her to our vet we discovered the problem. Our vet said Bella's records showed that she had issues with elevated liver enzymes, had lost 6 pounds since January and needed to be seen by an internal medical specialist for an abdominal ultrasound . The foster mom and her vet had these same records and had to have know of her problem. Her vet surely had to have told her of the need for the specialist and the abdominal ultrasound. She only told us that Bella had runny poop and needed prescription food. So the foster mom dealt with the problem by using prescription food for a sensitive stomach instead of dealing with the real problem. It was not fair to Bella and certainly not fair to us. We did not want to adopt a pet with special needs but once you fall in love you are hooked. BEWARE of not getting all the necessary medical information from this rescue. read more

I found this organization out of desperation to help a community feral stray and her liter of 4 living under a neighbors porch in May 2023. We adopted one of the babies from the liter, to join his other blood brother whose 2 years old from the same mother. After getting in touch with this rescue, i heard a response (the same day) to have an action in place to capture the feral cat and kittens. Success! Since I wanted to be involved in the feral's life, I was told that I had to volunteer to be a foster?! I submitted the application, my references were called and all was settled. However the whole experience at this rescue as (a foster) was disheartening and quite frankly unacceptable in my opinion for a business. We are eternally grateful for Kirsten G and Melissa R who were the only people who seem to genuinely care, respond and stay professional at all times especially when medical issues needed to be resolved. Ruby whiskers showed their true colors this past weekend when I went to foster a long term shelter dog. It was listed that they did a dog test and the dog was labeled "friendly" after being tested with 1 dog. I got the dog home and he attacked my resident dog, who was smaller than him, clearly a dominance issue. When I reached out to Kim and Jackie about this issue, I was literally berated and chastised for needing to get a new foster for this dog for fear that he would attack my resident and it would not end well. Kim proceeded to tell me what a horrible foster I was for needing to find a new one for the safety of my resident. Then made a comment about not being human...??? Really?? Who says that to a foster family who is trying to help you and you want me to continue putting my resident at risk??? Work with a rescue that actually does real dog testing. No one deserves to be chastised like this. read more

I have done everything in my power to support my beautiful puppies, to get them healthy, to socialize them, and to put them in the best environment. Ruby Whiskers Animal Rescue is an amazing organization that saves dogs from horrible conditions along with saving them from euthanasia. It was a hot day. Dogs were given water, fans, food, ice. They were not sedated and are being cared for at the highest standards. Dogs get tired and overwhelmed- just like humans. They have different personalities. Does this person know what kind of conditions they came from? Come on a trip with us to Kentucky and see with your own eyes. We are animal rescuers. We save lives. read more

Adopted a cat from them in September. Was told she was two and had a possible allergy came from a foster home with other 7+ cats possibly. Paid and signed her over to release medical records and finds out her records state she could be well over 10 years old? Also took her to the vet the same week and found out she had fleas. Brought my concerns to the rescue and never really heard anything back. I love my cat and don't care that she's old but if I knew prior about there fleas and age it may have hindered decision. read more

I received this letter of adoption approval. I took my 11 year old Bull dog all the way to Lemont to pick up this baby, as the letter states. Keep in mind my 11 year old does not like car rides. It was hot outside. This unsociable, large, rude woman came outside to meet us. My dog and I had to stand in the grass because the concrete was hot on her paws. I had to get my dog water from the car. All this woman Laura did was mumble questions that were in the application that I was, as you can see already approved for. I started to put an end to this senseless meeting. Because the dogs got along fine so I grabbed the money out of my purse and when I went to hand it to her she took the dog and ran in the house and said she had to make a phone call. She came out a couple minutes later saying the pup still has another vet appointment in 2 weeks so won't be available until then. Now, this morning, I see his pic back up on Petfinder. Is this a scam to get free food and vet care by being a "Foster" Laura? Pathetic! I am a true volunteer did you check with Habitat for Humanity? We are fortunate to have a place like Ruby Whiskers. They truly care about animals and I was happy to adopt a cat from them.

I was at an event in Lemont last night and decided to take my kids in to see the puppies for adoption. It was the saddest thing; around 20 puppies not making a sound and some not moving at all, even after petting and trying to engage the pups. These poor pups looked like zombie puppies. What were these pups given to sedate them? Truly horrible when little kids are asking why the puppies aren't moving or making any noises. read more

If I can give it a 0 I would I'm usually not the person to leave reviews but god this rescue has to be the worse out of all. I been getting the run around a from them last month adopted a kitten! I missed a family reunion because they sent me a message that the kitten had to be spayed on a certain day I couldn't move the date yet I had this plan for 6 months and I couldn't move the appt which fine but till this day I still have no paperwork of ownership of the kitten! I send message and all they say is I'm sorry and blah blah! I feel like they are just a mess and the worse place to adopt from my kitten had bumps everywhere and scratches which fine but please don't adopt from here find another place to help you even our vet said that is the worse place to adopt from they have no organization at all. Some animals come to this vet and have no paperwork after 3 months and they just forget it. So please find your fur baby at another place I'm sure they will treat you so much better! read more
