We only had a couple of appetizers because we found this place between lunch and dinner - but wow! The garlic mushrooms and asparagus didn't sound like it would work, but if you even only kinda like asparagus like me... you will love it. The perogi sampler was a great way to find out what you like - it's 2 of each kind they make. The real standout was the tort, though. Merengue and hazelnuts baked with chocolate and something else that held it all together in a crunchy, tasty dessert. Try this. You will not be disappointed. Well we were there 2 years ago and not impressed. Figured give it another try and it was better but still lacking something. The service was good and it's a big restaurant with multiple seating options. The menu is diverse but you go for the pierogis I would guess. The prices are fair but the add ons increase the price and let's face it having pierogis without buttered sautéed onions is just wrong. The pierogis are decent but since all are exactly the same you wonder if they are homemade fresh or frozen. If they have an automated machine than that would make sense but I'm not sure. Eve try thing here is freshly made - the crunchy things are crunchy, the savory things are seasoned to perfection, the pierogi dough and the different fillings are how my grandma used to make it. Loved everything about this place. Stopped in on our way to Gulfport on a whim as it is hard to find true authentic Ukrainian food & I'm so happy we did. The food is as close to what my Bobby's cooking was. Pierogis were so clean tasting. You could taste every bite. Just the plain potato ones had so much character. Also, ordered the martini there and the bar tender was able to switch out gin for vodka. Omg! She made two martinis with two different Ukrainian vodkas both which complimented the drink so well. Dill heavy and tastey. The owner came out and talked as well which I always prefer. We talked about family roots and drinking stories. So much fun. The food took a very long time to come out. The restaurant was almost empty -- only about three tables were taken on a Saturday. Last night we were a party of 4. Found this place on Yelp and we love Pierogi's plus the menu items looked really interesting as well. My wife had the Pierogi platter which was 18 pierogis plus sides. Also she ordered the potato pancakes. I had the Lamb shank which was very nice with mashed potato's, vegetables and a fantastic thick sauce. We all really enjoyed the whole meal. Our waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu and how the food was prepared. On the way out we ended up having a very nice conversation with the owner and validated our feelings that we wanted to come back. Other items I will try include the pickle soup (yes and we did get a taste and it was excellent), the pot roast and the schnitzel. The portions were just right as well. First time here. Meat pierogies were the only pierogies I liked. Potato pancakes were good. Chicken Kiev (hubby's dish) was really good! I had the Ukrainian Meatballs, which was ok but I wouldn't order it again. The kielbasa looked so good, but we unfortunately didn't try it. We have to go back again to try the kielbasa. The table next to us got it after we ordered, and we were like DAAAAMN.... those look good! Ambience is nice. Waiter was nice. Our first visit to a unique Ukrainian restaurant Pierogie Bar in St. Pete, owned by my wife's good friends, Ulyana Sabadylo-Voloshyn and Roman Voloshyn from Lviv, Ukraine. As you walk in, you are welcomed by a warm atmosphere of Ukrainian decor, soothing Ukrainian music and appetizing aroma of Ukrainian authentic cuisine. I enjoyed a Kozak platter with artisan sausage, potato pancakes, and farmer cheese & potato pierogies pan-seared to crispy perfection. My wife had Tart Cherry pierogies (her favorite childhood dessert) - both tangy and sweet, melting in her mouth. Also not to overlook a varity of crafted martinis. It's a full restaurant with multiple , excellent dinner items . The lamb shank is huge and delicious and the meatloaf is superb. But you absolutely MUST try the schnitzel. During our last visit I was little dissapointed in the Cabbage Roll as I found them bit sweet. I'm used to cabbage rolls being much more savory and sour from other european restaurants. For our entrees I had the lamb shank with mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley that consisted of squash, zucchini, and peppers. Our waiter wasn't kidding when he said I didn't need a knife. It melted in my mouth and paired perfectly with the mashed potatoes. It was flavorful and tender. My husband had the schnitzel topped with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes for the side, along with a salad and house dressing. He enjoyed it very much. We were both silently enjoying the food. What better way to tell a meal is hitting the spot am I right? The entrees are well portioned. I even had some leftovers. I got a plate with Ukrainian sausage, 3 potato latkes, and 3 pierogies and it was $25. There seems to be an up charge for everything- to pan fry the pierogis is $4 extra, a different sauce on the cabbage rolls is $2 extra. I got the potato and cheddar pierogis for an additional $1 and they were very good. Not a inexpensive dinner at all but a tasty spot. After visiting Eastern Europe a few years back and having homemade pierogis in Poland, I had been dreaming of having yummy pierogis like that again. I had been looking for a place here in the Bay Area that had some that were freshly made and tasted like traditional pierogis, and I hadn't found the place- until now. It's a super cute spot with amazing service, great atmosphere and truly delicious pierogis. I had the potato and fresh cheese pierogis, pan seared in butter, topped with bacon. We also got a portion of potato pancakes which were incredible. I'm a huge fan of kartoffelpuffers, the German potato pancakes with sour cream and apple sauce, and our waiter was so lovely (and also German!) so he brought us some apple sauce and sour cream with the potato pancakes.
