My partner is Ukrainian and we stumbled upon the yelp for Babushka's and he excitedly started yelling out all the meals on the menu so of course we had to try it. We went on a Sunday evening and they were pretty busy. Our server was very nice and chatted with us about the restaurant. Everything was delicious. My partner said it reminded him of his grandmother's cooking from when he was younger. We came back a week later and had a great meal again. Second server was just welcoming as our first time. We haven't tried Hyde Park location yet because we love the feel of this location. This restaurant will definitely make it into our rotation of favorite places!

Delicious Ukrainian/Russian cuisine! We frequent the Tampa location a lot, so decided to give this location a try because we were told that this was the original location and they have extra menu items. We gave the stroganoff and Svekolnik "cold borscht". Food was fresh and delicious. We finished our meal off with the honey cake, which was perfect! Definitly a great spot to eat with friendly staff and great decor.

I had a wonderful dining experience at Babushkas. The staff were very welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. It felt very cozy like home and the rustic scenery was very nice. I loved seeing how everything tied back to the Russian culture. The food was delicious. I had the beef stroganoff and the the sangria. All I have to say is chefs kiss. They threw down on that beef stroganoff!!! I would for sure be coming back!!

Food was excellent! We went for my hubs birthday dinner and tried about 1/3 of the menu. The Turkish coffee was delicious. The sour cherry tea was delicious! The salmon bruschetta app was probably the best salmon bruschetta we've ever had. I can't remember the last time I've ever seen beef stroganoff or chicken Kyiv in a menu. The sampler platter had both along with cabbage rolls and lamb and rice. It was all so good. The cherry pierogies for dessert were the perfect size. It is a small restaurant so there's not many tables and we made reservations which I'm glad because there were only two tables available. Service was ok, she was working the bar, the register and the tables so she was busy but not too attentive. All in all we were all pleased with the quality of the food and we will definitely be back!!

Food was very delicious. My fiancé got the Borscht soup with Pompushka & Salo. I got the beef stroganoff. We shared 12 pieces of Siberian Pelmeni's pan fried. For dessert we ordered the honey cake. Everything was so delicious, piping hot and fresh. We loved the honey cake, not too sweet and just right! There was only one server but he did amazing at bringing the food out at the perfect time. The ambiance was super cute, like living in a cabin in the woods. We can't wait to come back and try even more delicious Russian food.

We love this location and frequent it at least twice a month. The dumplings are to die for! My other favorites are the goat and beet salad and their famous soup with olives, pickles and beef. The flavor is so rich and though untraditional, it hits the spot every time. My husband loves the beef stroganoff. The staff is always friendly and helpful to explain any menu items. Ambience is quaint. The dining area is small, only about 6-7 tables but it always has a nice quiet vibe. Located in a strip mall; there is always plenty of parking.

For authentic Russian food and amazing ambiance you absolutely need to come and eat at Babushka's!! Their dumplings are awesome. I got the loaded dumplings so that I could taste a couple different kinds. I ordered the schnitzel and the gravy was perfect. The stroganoff was super yummy as well. You won't leave here hungry that's for sure. Loved the decorations and the old country feel. The server was attentive and helpful though he was serving all the tables in the restaurant I didn't feel like we lacked anything. He was quick and responsive when asked for more water or a take home container. The food is really worth the visit to this restaurant. Just amazing quality and taste. It's comforting when you eat it. Also no real bloating so you know it's real food prepared the right way.

An updated review is in order! We catered Babushka's to our program today for lunch and my opinion has CHANGED. The beef stroganoff, cabbage, and beet salad were INCREDIBLE. I am usually not a beer lover, but this salad was the perfect balance with the refreshing beets, creamy cheese, crunchy nuts, and delectable honey mustard-esque dressing. I couldn't believe how good it was! The cabbage was also incredible with savory mushrooms mixed in. The honey cake was not to my taste but others thoroughly enjoyed. In addition, I guess I am just not a big fan of Vareniki as I still did not enjoy these but others loved them. I can't comment on updates about service or ambiance since it was takeout but I was much more impressed with the food and the development of complex flavors in the dishes I tried today.

We found this place while looking for something we can't get anywhere else and what a delight it was! We were initially nervous when we pulled into a small strip plaza but upon entering, we found a small, quaint, and adorably decorated place. We arrived in between lunch and dinner and were surprised to see they were busy, only one open table - busy is a good sign. After checking out the menu, we had a hard time choosing - everything sounded so good! We got a sample platter with their most loved meals (perfect option when you can't pick), another meal, a bread basket, and two dumpling orders. The Siberian Pelmini in a broth was probably the BEST soup type dish I've ever had. I could have eaten a whole vat of it. Amazing flavors I've never experienced before! We also enjoyed the pan fried sauerkraut vareniki as well. Our #1 favorite meal was the beef stroganoff - seriously - I could have cried tears of pure bliss. The lamb plov was next favorite followed by the golubtzy. For two of us, it was an expensive lunch but we ordered enough food for 4 and it was SO WORTH IT! We cannot wait to go back!

    Jade M.

Some of the food was very delicious. The pelmini and draniki were great appetizers to start the meal with. I definitely recommend adding salmon or kielbasa on. I'm not a big cabbage fan yet even I can admit the golubtzy was the best thing on the sample platter. The cabbage leaves really complementd the meat filling and tomato sauce. The stroganoff needed more sauce (although this might just be a problem from the sample platter as the full stroganoff looks to have a lot of sauce from pictures). The chicken kyiv was fine taste wise but it had a very chewy texture. The restaurant itself is very warm and homey. Attentive and friendly wait staff. Food came out and tables were turned over fairly quick for a Friday night.

Still very good. This gramma kitchen serve very good food for Eastern Europe. They have many cheese dishes and non cheese dish. For me is not heavy cheese eater, we got all the non cheese and got mostly meat dishes. We still love it. We start with samsa - puff beef patties. Love it. I Also like Siberian Pelmeni. This pork dumplings can be serve in soup, pan fried, or boil. This is a must have dish. You can get 12 or 18 pieces. We also got smoke salmon blinchiki. We have everything on the side. The salmon is really best smoke item. The main dish start with lamb plov. This lamb cook well, rice may need to cook a bit longer. The chicken Kyiv is spectacular with light coating and chicken meat cover and infill with minor cheese. The last dish is popular dish in the restaurant- khinkali. This is very similar to Chinese soup dumplings in giant size. Overall the service is well improved and the food waiting time also getting shorter in compared to my previous visit. This restaurant has develop to better improvement.

Wonderful evening! We found ourselves in a plaza that offers food from 4 different countries, and we entered into Babushka's- our friend's girls' night dinner pick. A lovely yet rustic ambience- features heavy wooden furniture and an adorably illustrated elderly, Russian couple are featured on all of the walls. We started with drinks- a Russian mimosa of champagne and house made kompot (so tasty, I got two!) and select international beer and wine- we were sad to see that a great Russian vodka couldn't be on the list! Sushki (rounds of cracker-like bread sticks) were on every table to share. We ordered a beets and goat salad, a trio of pirozhki (warm, stuffed bread rolls- chicken and mushroom was the best, chopped boiled egg, and potato), and the loaded dumplings plate (potato and sauerkraut and pelmeni or little meat dumplings covered in chopped sausage, dill, mozzarella, and fried onion) were our table's shared starters. Each dish was served beautifully with a rustic elegance using heavy pottery and wooden board- everything was lovely! We then decided on 2 entrees: golubtsy and beef stroganoff to share amongst the table- the stroganoff was the tastiest that I've ever had despite some chewiness to the beef, and the noodles were cooked perfectly; the cabbage rolls were delicious but the potatoes were dry. We were stuffed but we still ordered some cheese donut holes- hot, fresh, with a beautiful cherry sauce to dip! The two young servers were lovely and helpful with choosing dishes and explaining answers to any of our questions about dishes, but once the food came, they kept their distance and we had to call for them a couple of times. Price was great for the amount of food! Don't sleep on this one- there is a small parking lot, and the plaza is pretty unassuming- be sure to pull in and try it! Every plate that came out of the kitchen looked delicious and beautifully presented- we almost hoped they'd announce each dish as they came forward! We want to check out their brunch menu on our next visit!

The interior is so fun, unlike any other restaurant I've been to, and that's probably because it was my first Eastern European restaurant! Food was fresh, had a lot of fun discovering new dishes. No complaints about service. My only issue is on the day we went, it was a bit too warm inside while they serve hot food. Not sure if it's like that all the time. I would eat here again!

The veal was incredibly tender, and the gravy was packed with flavor. It was a satisfying entrée that came with two sides. For my sides, I chose the pierogies and spätzle. The pierogies were honestly my favorite part of the meal. They were fluffy, cheesy, and generously filled. So delicious. I could have eaten a whole plate of just those. The spätzle was soft and well prepared, but compared to everything else, I found it a little boring. The restaurant itself is very cute and has a lot of character. I loved browsing the selection of German snacks, candy, and other imported items available for purchase. It added to the overall experience and made the place feel unique. While I'm not that familiar with German food, I thought this was a pretty good restaurant. Overall, I found German cuisine a little more muted than what I'm personally used to, but I still really enjoyed the meal and the experience. I'd be interested in trying more of the menu.

I had such high hopes for this place. :( The selection is very limited and perhaps I missed something (entirely possible), but I did not see a price list for the deli case. We did find a unique assortment of other German products- some we haven't seen in many years. The restaurant portion was quite busy and the customers looked happy. We were flooded with nostalgia and left in hopes of dining in on a less-busy day. I ordered two meats, including the German bologna. During the drive home, my family and I noticed a terrible odor-- the kind where we started pointing fingers at one another. We never suspected that the package from the deli was the source. When we opened it at home, a nauseatingly funky, ammonia-type smell came from the German bologna. While the liverwurst smelled okay, I could not trust it after the bologna and decided against keeping it. Wasted time and money. Dang! The staff is super nice and that was truly a plus. However, I doubt we will be back. My family is very bummed over this.

We started with the Potato Vareniki which are Ukrainian homemade pierogis, filled with potato & dill then topped with caramelized onions. Very similar to Chinese dumplings in texture. Served with sour cream and trust me it makes a difference to eat it with the condiment. I ordered the Duck At Dusk and it was absolutely delightful. Cooked medium rare, the pan-seared duck breast was tender, juicy and full of flavor. The pieces were small but the skin to fat to lean meat ratio was great. The presentation was beautiful with the pearl onions and tri-color carrots on top of mango-apricot gel, cilantro oil, date jus. My husband ordered the Sample Platter which includes sample-sized Beef Stroganoff (sirloin tip steak, onions and white mushrooms, served over egg noodles), Lamb Plov (jasmine rice, Australian lamb, carrots, onion, barberries, cumin), Chicken Kyiv (breaded boneless chicken breast, filled with mozzarella cheese, butter and herbs) & Golubtzy (cabbage leaves wrapped around ground beef and rice filling). Our favorite was the Golubtzy for the unique flavors and the nice consistency of the wraps. The mashed potatoes in the center was also fluffy and delicious. The parking can be a bit tricky but there's extra parking in the back. The service is friendly and informative but you may have to flag them down to place orders and get your check. But I did, it deserves a second chance, but unfortunately it fell short yet again. The service was friendly enough, but not great. When I ordered an item off the menu, they told me it wasn't available. So I then needed another minute to decide what I wanted. When the server returned I ordered another item and again, they didn't have it. But then proceeded to tell me all the items that were not available that evening. WHY wouldn't he have said when the first item wasn't available, all the other items that weren't available. I really wanted some vegetables....so when I couldn't have really much of anything but the dumplings, I asked if I could have some of the vegetables from the entrees that were all unavailable with the dumplings but he said he could not do that. I think the language barrier created some issues in this case. They couldn't accommodate much of anything. That's too bad. I won't be back to this location.

I had been passing by this place for years before finally stopping in last year just to see what…read morethey had to offer. I was pleasantly surprised to the find that it is a small international market store that offers groceries - canned, refrigerated and frozen - candies and other treats along with a small menu of food items and some personal care staples. I am most intrigued by the grocery options and they carry a few unique items that I've not seen in bigger brand stores like Walmart, Publix or Sprouts. A few times that I've come in since, I have seen some ladies in the back hand rolling dough for the pastries or other breaded goods sold. I do know that if you purchase a meat pie or pastry, that they will offer to warm it up for you. I've had a meat pie and a Danish and they both were delicious. It seems that most people order food items to go, however, they do have a quiet corner that appears to be set for indoor dining use. The prices of everything seem pretty reasonable and fair to me. I'm surprised at the variety of items that they carry given the small square footage that they have - they have done well. I think that this is definitely a gem hidden in plain sight. You may find that it is worth checking out.
