I am not sure if I am going to blow the cover on this place as a well-hidden local gem, but it was an unexpected find for me, and I felt a need to let others know. I was looking for a good baguette in my neighborhood for a while. But as simple as a baguette may seem, making a tasty one is an art. I was running some errands when I suddenly felt pekish. I saw on Yelp that there was an "authentic French bakery" nearby and decided, "Why not?" Originally, I was thinking of getting a quiche, but as I got into the store, I decided to switch to an avocado egg sandwich. I am sure quiche is good, but I was impressed by the sandwich. It came on the plate with very fresh salad greens. Greens there fresh and sauce tangy, just what one needs to cut through the richness of avocado and egg. I think I had an entire Avacado cut on it. The avocado itself was just right. But the star of the show, for me, was a baguette! I inhaled the entire dish and asked if they sell baguettes on their own, which they do. The bakery associate told me they just ran out, but they are baking new ones now. If I wait 10-15 minutes, I will get a freshly baked one. I could not believe my lack. They came as promises and they were great, just smell alone was to die for There are so many other things I want to try, so I'll definitely be back. Thank you guys, you all made my day! read more

Visiting Somerville, I spied with my little eyes a French bakery, and as you know, I can never say "no" to a croissant. This place feels like an authentic French bakery, with wonderful aromas wafting all around you, tempting you to order far more than just one pastry. The aesthetics are calm and inviting, and I really appreciated that they don't rush you to finish and leave. Let's start with the good. Service is very quick and helpful, the staff is very friendly. The restaurant itself is very cute and has a very cozy vibe (sit and yap kind of place) with all the couches. It was a great hang out spot to catch up with my friends. Now the food itself- I got a mocha with was delicious. I loved every sip of it and I would get it over and over. It was so yummy and tasted as a mocha should. I also got some apple tart pastry thing. I love apple pastries and they a baked apple tastes. I was very disappointed to find out that majority of this pastry was almond cream, and the ratio to the apples was not that great. It was very overpowered with almond, and while the apple part was delicious, I wish there was more of it. I would not get this pastry again. My friends got sandwiches and they were also unimpressed, said they were okay, nothing to write home about. I would go back and try some of their desserts as they looked very tasty but I'll save that for another day. For now, I would consider this bakery just ok. read more

This is a good pastry shop to pick up some French desserts. There were a number of desserts to choose from, but most had hazelnut in it for some reason, lacking the variety I was looking for. I ended up getting a slice of the Metisse (chocolate cake with crème brûlée filling) and a slice of the mango-coconut mousse cake. Both were neatly layered and great to satisfy a sweet tooth. The coffee and pastries were brought to our table promptly, but we waited quite a while for our sandwiches. After nearly 15 minutes, we went to ask about them and discovered they had been sitting on the counter the entire time. What made this more frustrating was that there was only one other customer in the café, so it wasn't particularly busy. What a precious French bakery in downtown Somerville. The interior is spacious and serene. I loved how peaceful it was. Little marble bistro tables line both sides when you enter and in the back are the pastries and French breads. They have the round stuffed croissants people have been looking for as well as beautiful pastries filled with mousse, etc. I tried a pear tart with almond and it was delicious. I got a standard coffee with creme. Strong but good. I loved the atmosphere and the dessert. The coffee was a bit too strong for me so I may try tea next time and there will be a next time! I've only visited this new to Somerville French bakery once but I am already a very big fan. From the beautiful open space with plenty of tables, to the simple menu and tea served as a pot, my visit was lovely and won't be my last. I stopped in between meetings while in town and wanted a small & quick bite along with a tea to warm up. I also wanted to try and get a bit of work done while I was there. Luckily, I saw a few other guests on their laptops and the barista brought me over their wifi password no problem. Can confirm that you have strong wifi while here! I got an egg and cheese on a croissant and it was incredibly cheesy and buttery. A little more decadent than I had planned for a snack, but still delicious. My tea came out with hot water in a pot, my cup and a tea bag, I loved that I could leave it steeping in the pot and just refill my cup. I definitely plan to return when I am in need of some French baked goods, a coffee or just want to get a bit of work done in a new space. read more

Their baguette was great and although I did not try their croissants because they were huge but looked flaky and light instead, I got 6 of their macarons because they were smaller but they were huge disappointment. Egg & cheese on a croissant and Tomato pesto mozzarella which was originally to be served on a baguette was switched to a Brioche as they were out of their Baguette. Brioche was too much bread for the Tomato Mozz sandwich but the filling tasted ok. Croissants were flaky buttery and very good base for the sandwich. The apple tart had good pastry base and the r filling was quite good too . But the crumble on top was not something I enjoyed. Too sweet for my liking . Their service can be a bit slow if it's crowded as they have only one billing counter and couple of staff attending to the guests . You may have to find street parking or a garage close by and walk up to the bakery as it's in the heart of Somerville downtown. The chocolate croissant was super flakey with huge air pockets (which you want in a traditional croissant). The fruit tart was delicious with super fresh berries. Very long overdue review! A bit of background, but if it's 4.5 I'll round it to 5 if I have spoken to the owners regarding their ideology and their approach. I had went quite a few months ago. They are becoming more of a chain due to their popularity as they now have four locations! Nonetheless, the owner was there for quite some time to provide assistance to make sure the store was on it's feet. More on that later! I went to their original location with a European Friend that had more experience on these. TLDR: (4.5/5) The store is gorgeous. There is a variety of seats to choose from and it offers a very spacious lounge area. Moreover a ton of sweets and savory options that have some of the best presentation you'll see in several towns over! The taste of them are very unique as you can imagine it's a bakery focused on Authentic French Baking. It can be a hit or miss depending on what you get. Almond Croissant though is an absolute killer. I never had anything like it and would recommend if you love a sweet almond dessert! This location is a sure visit at least once for locals and travelers that get to see decor, vibes, and baked goods you would to struggle to find even in New York! Food (4/5): The Almond Croissant is a MUST in my opinion if you love sweet goods. I never had anything like it and it's delicious. Almond explosion of flavor that just leaves you satisfied. The Creme Brulee is nice as they torch it right there. Big points because as my friend says, it's very hard to get it outside of a restaurant dessert menu. Pretty standard Creme Brulee The Croissant wasn't mind-blowing but it was a good one. Buttery with good flakiness. The Paris Brest is one of their more popular pastries apparently. I liked it a lot because I love cream. It was decadent. A little on the harder side to eat but it was great. I gave it 4/5 because often times the presentation is easy 5/5, but the taste doesn't match what you would expect. That can be a hit or a miss for some people. There is a lot of variety to go through so I'm sure there will an item you might love. Service (5/5) (Temporary Review): The service was fantastic! It became a bit busy towards the later end of the afternoon, but they were cordial and attentive. This section is a bit hard because the owner was there there. The owner is a lovely person to speak to if you ever have the chance or if there is down time in the store. Service could go either way after they leave to manage the other new location that is about to come out. So it is subject to change, however, if the owner is there then you are in good hands. Decor and Ambiance (4.5/5): The store on the outside is easy to miss, but once you step inside it is simply gorgeous. A minimalistic take with plenty of open space. The different seating options provide the customers with a myriad of ways to personalize their experience. It's unique and memorable. I only ever sat by the couch and it's comfy. The .5 reduction is because some people might prefer consistency or it could be too big. There is quite some distance from the door to the bakery itself. Drinks (Cannot Review): I didn't get any drinks at the time so I can't say much. Overall (4.5/5) One of the premier bakeries I have ever been to. It stands on it's own with the presentation and unique variety of pastries that are often times hard to find in one location. It's a must see if you are a local, traveler, or baking connoisseur. I speak for the sweets. They are fantastic but for the savory options and drinks. I will have to come back and try them myself. I have tried some other pastries at their other location. Please check out my review there! The recipe should be same. Worries: More stores means that it might be harder to check for quality and more streamlined efficiency could drop the quality. Wow. Just wow. If you like a light bake on your croissants as I do, this is your spot. So good. I like a little/light flake on the outside and super moist inside. Vast majority of other spots are much darker on the outside/dryer/harder than this place. Always trying to find the best croissants whenever I travel and haven't had anything like these in a long time. Everything we've tried from this place has been truly amazing. Reminds me of getting pastries in the little local shops that you find in the UK that you'll be looking at some clothes and then smell delicious treats and stumble across a wee cafe tucked away in the corner of the shop that sells cappuccino and scones. This French bakery is a great place to grab a pastry and coffee, right on Main Street. Food: We got an Apple tart and a chocolate walnut mousse brownie. Unfortunately, the Apple tart wasn't nearly as good as it looked. It lacked flavor, depth and sweetness. It was fairly bland. However, the chocolate walnut mousse brownie was absolutely delicious. It had a great combination of textures from the chewy brownie to the rich mousse to the crunch from the solidified chocolate on top. It was decadent, not overly sweet and perfectly chocolatey. Ambiance: this bakery is fairly new so it has a fresh interior with ample seating. This is a great place to sit down and enjoy a coffee and pastry. Service: the person at the counter was very nice and checked with a kitchen to see if they had more tarts coming out since there were none left. The pastries looked delicious and I would consider going back to try some. But today I wanted a breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Two young girls were working behind the counter. The girl who "cooked" my sandwich brought it to me and before I could take a bite I noticed a smell of spoiled food. I opened the sandwich and saw a dried overcooked slice of ham that was well beyond its expiration date. The egg was dry and overcooked and it was presented to me on a cold croissant. For this I was charged $9.50. I asked for a refund and left. Would not recommend eating anything that has to be prepared. read more
