I had been experiencing jaw and tooth pain on a stay to our family retreat in St. Augustine (…read morebummer right?) I waited to see if the pain would subside, but it continued, so I googled dentists and found Dr. Daniel Haeussner on Yelp. Called and talked to Kara, who was so kind a welcoming and they fit me in the same day to see what was going on. Everything from their lovely office, to their friendly staff, to their service was top notch. Kim, my dental assistant, quickly put me at ease and assured we'd address what the issue is as she took X-rays and made me comfortable. Dr. Haeussner came in and let me know everything looked good in the X-ray. He asked if I had been stressed lately (who hasn't!? But my job has been very stressful lately) and thought I may be grinding my teeth. He asked if I had also been experiencing headaches, which last week I had terrible headaches, so much so I got a Covid test just to be sure! He did a bite test, and even when I thought there is no way this pain is coming from grinding, he was sweet and did another one just to ease my concerns. He recommended a warm compress and anti-inflammatory. I could not believe this was causing this sort of pain, so I was so relieved to hear the news! I thought for sure I needed emergency filling or root canal. My dad is a dentist in Michigan and so this was my first experience outside of family. Dr. Haeussner assured me there were no major concerns and I appreciated his honest, sincere compassion with the situation. Funny enough, we laughed how my dad is also named Daniel, and I saw the Dr. Dan of St. Augustine. Anyone who is looking for a dentist, look no further! And this is coming from the daughter of a dentist. Thank you Kara, Kim and Dr. Haeussner for taking care of me while I was away!

Unfortunately, our experience with this office has been frustrating from start to finish. After waiting in the office for over an hour for our scheduled appointment, we were informed that the dentist could not see us because our previous visit had an unpaid insurance balance. My question is: why was our appointment confirmed in the first place if there was an outstanding billing issue? This should have been identified before we arrived, not after we had already spent over an hour waiting. We were told the office was understaffed, but that explanation doesn't make the experience any less frustrating. What makes this even more concerning is that the insurance issue appears to have been caused by the office itself. During our previous visit, we were scheduled with a specialist, even though my child only needed a routine cleaning and X-rays. We were never told we were being scheduled with a specialist or that it could affect insurance coverage. It's no surprise that the insurance company questioned the claim. There was another issue during that same visit. We were told our son needed approximately $300 in additional treatment. I specifically told the staff not to perform that work because I wasn't prepared to pay for it that day. Despite that clear instruction, the treatment was completed anyway. None of these issues, by themselves, would necessarily have prompted me to leave a review. However, together they point to a pattern of poor communication, inadequate administrative processes, and a lack of attention to what patients are actually being told. I hope the office takes this feedback seriously. Better scheduling procedures, clearer communication about providers and insurance, and ensuring staff follow patients' treatment decisions would go a long way toward improving the patient experience.

Reading the reviews, I struggle to understand what people are talking about when it comes to lack…read moreof care...but after being in the office to witness some people's over-inflated sense of entitlement and their interactions with front staff, I can say that approach often dictates outcomes. I was transferred to St Augustine, and transferred care from my former dentist to St Augustine Family last year. Dr. Caggiano read my entire folder (I'm no stranger to dental work or dental procedures), even making mention of the note in my chart of my rapid metabolism and the only anesthetic that will work to numb me, and had plenty of it on hand for my first procedure. I knew that I had a prior cavity repair fail twice on my back lower left molar, but I didn't have the time to get it fixed properly. A prior dentist had attempted to repair this and couldn't manage the water from the drill, and it choked me multiple times.(Water in the lungs is not fun) First procedure: Failed cavity repair on a deep tooth way in the back that I had less than favorable experiences with. After discussing options w/ Dr. Caggiano- and my never wanting to get a root canal - we opted to crown the tooth. I'll try it one more time- on my second visit. Dr. Caggiano was very communicative during the procedure and 2 assistants worked diligently to keep the water out of my throat during the drilling with 2 large bore suction hoses running together. Their crown impressions were on point, and the temp crown held for the 2 weeks that we had to wait for the new one to be made. Over a year later, no issues with the crown and just had my semi-annual cleaning. No cavities, no gaps in the crown.

I keep getting messages to make an appointment to come in, and…read moreI do, but when I arrive they print me up a "treatment case" with wildly different patient responsibility charges. My insurer, United Health Care, says most of the things in the treatment case should be covered. United Dental agent called them but could only leave a message. She said if I don't hear from them I should call and tell them to call United Health Care Dental. I hadn't heard from them so I called. No answer. My current plan will expire at the end of June and I'm afraid the work will not be completed. What is going on over there?
