Pierre's is a fantastic find in the heart of La Mesa Village! The brilliant chef, Zion, is not only impressive in stature, but his recipes for pizza pies are so unique and take your senses on an unexpected thrill ride. First of all, I've not really been a huge deep dish fan. And these are hefty pies! But once you let your teeth sink into a slice, you are delighted by the crunch and crispness of the edges and yet the delicate lightness of the dough in the middle. How does he do that? It's not heavy. But it's thick on flavor. The classic is the pepperoni, with or without jalapeños (for those who like some heat). Those lil' meat discs are fired to perfection w/ a perfect toasty crunch. That's how I like it. So good. The marinara is just right for me. It's not overflowing and trying to cover up anything. But the spices and combo are well balanced. Ok now, you gotta try a specialty pie. They are orderable on certain days depending on what sources are available that week. Or whatever is cooked up in the chef's mind! I think my fave is the Best Spud (seasoned potatoes, 3 cheeses, black garlic miso ranch, gojugaru and chives...) and w/ a bacon option! We have ordered delivery (DoorDash or Localby Toast) and we've ordered online and picked up at the window, and since Hoffers Cigar Beer & Wine Bar opened a couple weeks ago, we've ordered online and they deliver it right to our table next door! It's such a convenient set up for a relaxing evening. Pierre's hours are 5pm to whenever they sell out. And only Wednesday to Sunday. Pierre's is a family business and right now is working inside of Public Square Coffeehouse which is also their family business. So, if you want to go there, go to Public Square and you'll be home! You can enjoy your pizza on site at a sidewalk table or a cozy table inside. It's seriously, worth every penny. Love this spot, the pizza is PHENOMENAL. One weekly special we had with mushrooms is something I can't stop dreaming about. Go to pizza is the pepperoni (added the picture), the pepperonis get nice and curled and the pools of oil and cheese are so flavorful. The whole pie is more than enough pizza for two people to share. They have a weekly special that you can ask about too. Don't sleep on Pierre's! A great new pizza addition to the La Mesa village. They are only open some nights of the week so check their site! I stopped in on Friday right when the opened at 5pm. They are currently inside Public Square coffee and I've heard there are plans to expand into the old Hoffers. The wait time was 15-20 mins but I am sure that gets longer the busier they get. They had lots of drink options and good recommendations coming from the staff. I wish this place was open more often! read more

Let me speak plainly and clearly: I can NOT sing this pizza's praises enough. Pierre's Pizza Place operates out of Public Square Coffee House in downtown La Mesa. Now, I could go on and on about Public Square: the quality, the ambiance, the absolute star cast of friendly and compassionate staff. And I will! Y'all, the pizza is just to die for. Exhibit one: quality. Beautifully crisped crust with a soft, chewy interior, cheese that is so flavorful but not overwhelming, and--if you're a sophisticate, like me--you can get pepperoni and jalapeño on that sucker and have your life permanently altered. The menu lists pepperoni, pepperoni & jalapeño, and cheese as your options, but they also have weekly specials that are very much worth keeping your eye on. I'm not a person who's keen on holding back, so once the plate has been delivered, I'm jumping right in with a big bite, but be warned: that cheese is gonna come out PIPING hot, fresh from the oven, so do exercise caution and restraint. Let's talk value. At time of writing, a slice costs between $6 and $8, but if you're picturing a sad, limp slice of lukewarm grease bread from your nationwide pizza franchise de préférence, then you have another thing coming, my dear. First off, it's Public Square, not Public Circle...so I hope you like your slices in quadrilateral form. And second, these slices live very much in three dimensions. We've got length, we've got width, and boyyyy do we have girth. These slices are thicccc. That's four c's, if you weren't counting. One slice might not be enough to satisfy your taste buds, but it'll satisfy your stomach with unexpected gusto. For a full pizza, you're looking at around 25 bucks before tax and tip. Again, the form factor is not what you would expect from a Pizza Hutch or a Dominique's or a Poppa Ron's. You could feed three people easily, and might even squeeze in a fourth. It's a great choice for a nice sit-down (maybe to enjoy the open mic night they host every few Wednesdays?), though bringing one home for a game night or sports event will earn you the utmost respect and adulation of your friends. That's a guarantee. And why would I lie to you? I love you. Guys, jokes aside, I just can't encourage you hard enough to give this place a try. As of right now, pizza is 5pm-8pm, Wednesday thru Sunday. Give these good folks the love they deserve so they can continue to do their amazing work, and to inspire people like me to write...whatever the hell this is. Very bad business policy to advertise as open and then, after waiting all day, to go at their listed time of 5: 00, to find they have closed at 4:00. We've had their pizza on several occasions and it is delicious, which only serves to make this current situation more disappointing!! I would lay down my life for this Pizza. Came in the other night and picked up a to go order for me and my girlfriend, we got one cheese one pepperoni, and one of each sauce. The vibe in there was peaceful and they were super friendly. Pizza was ready on time, got it home and we were blown away by how good it was. The dough must be absolute top tier bc the pizza was thick but light and fluffy at the same time. Delicious. We just got basic pizzas but the ingredients were high quality so every bite had flavor and depth. I was dipping the crusts in sauces crazy loving it the ranch????? The hot honey garlic !???????? Cmon if the gods came down to me right now and said "your life or the pizza" I was say that Pizza !!! And the potion was huge. I think we paid $50 for 2 full pies including taxes and sauces and everything, but we ate it for dinner, lunch the next day then dinner the next day too. I would pay $5-$7 per slice(square?) on its own easily and eat maybe 2 or 3 at a time as a meal? But a whole one for $22-25? What a great pizza! I've been meaning to try this spot and it did not disappoint. Tried the whole pepperoni pizza, so much flavor with a spice kick. It had a perfect balance-soft airy thick dough with a little crisp outside edges. Might be the best pizza in La Mesa! The pizza was really unique for this region of the country. I think the hype around this pizza is too much, though. It was good, but not like the best pizza I had or anything. I'll have to admit that I prefer thin, chewy crust NY style though. If you like deep dish pizza I would guess you will love this place. It was tasty and was like a French bread pizza. The bottom of the pizza had a nice deep fried type crunch which added to the flavor quite well. The sauce was good, too. Very good pizza. Let's start with the crust. It's more of a Sicilian style pizza with a grandma mix. The dough isn't too salty which I LOVE so it's not competing with the toppings. It's slightly chewy, crispy and airy at the same time. The sauce is homemade I believe the barista told me and you can tell. Lots of fresh flavor. There's a hint of oregano, not overpowering just bc it's pizza, and the balance between cheese and sauce is pretty much perfect in my opinion. I'm originally from NYC and can be a pizza snob but I give this my stamp of approval . Looking forward to trying the other toppings. It's a great size too. Where to begin? First of all, this pizza is BANGIN'. I truly have no words for how absolutely FIRE this pizza is. Usually I'm pretty disappointed by most pizza spots around SD. I came on Open Mic Night held at Public Square and they had some pepperoni pizza and I'm being completely honest when I say that this is the best pepperoni pizza I've ever had. My friend Francisco ordered me one slice cause I thought I was going to want two but when I saw the size of these things!?!? He was definitely right in ordering me one cause these slices were big deep dish squares of deliciousness. One slice filled me right up and it even looks gourmet and I seriously recommend frequenting this establishment and getting yourself some rad pizza!!! read more
