If you went to school around San Diego back in the 2009 era, you probably know exactly what Milo's Pizza was. This was my go to spot during college. No thinking, no debating, just go. It was right there next to the Diplomat apartments and always came through. I still remember the deal. Drink, bag of chips, and two slices for about 3 bucks. You really couldn't beat it. Straight up better value than a lot of places even today. Honestly put Costco to shame at the time. It wasn't trying to be anything fancy. Just solid pizza, quick, affordable, and always there when you needed it. The staff was always great too. Friendly, quick, and kept things moving. Never an issue. I'm sure prices have changed by now, but that's not even the point. It's one of those places tied to a time in your life. Routine, late nights, quick stops before or after class. MILO'S PIZZA @ EL CAJON This place is only about a five minute drive from SDSU, so it's definitely a convenient spot for college students. I had actually never heard of it before, but a few of my friends had been here several times, especially on weekends, so I decided to give it a try. One thing I did like was that they offered a variety of deals and combos. I believe they had a pizza and drink combo for a set price, and you could also order individual slices with a drink or choose from several other specials. I thought that was a nice perk. The pizza itself starts at a base price, and then you pay extra for each topping you add. Personally, I wasn't the biggest fan of that system because the toppings felt pretty expensive for the amount you actually receive. My friends and I ordered toppings like pepperoni and mushrooms, but there were barely any on the pizza. For what we paid, I expected a lot more. I also felt like the pizza wasn't as fresh as I was hoping it would be. That being said, I do like the personal pizza concept and the ability to customize your order. However, considering the price and the amount of toppings provided, I didn't think the value was great. Parking was probably my biggest complaint. The parking situation is pretty rough since there are several restaurants sharing a very small lot. Finding a spot can be difficult, especially during busy hours. The restaurant itself is also more of a quick grab and go type of place. There isn't much of a dine in atmosphere, and it feels more geared toward getting your food and heading out rather than sitting down for a long meal. Overall, I would be willing to give this place another try in the future because everyone has off days. I loved how many veggies were on the pizza. We also got a jalapeño and pineapple pizza and that was a great combination on the pizza! We also got Greek salad which was good and it also came with a garlic bread and that was also good. The service was great. They were fast at making the pizza and on time. The employees that work there are super nice and friendly! If you have any questions or concerns they don't mind answering them for you. First time here and this is the best pizza I've had in San Diego - as a fan of crispy thin crust pizza, I feel not a lot of places nail it but Milo's sure did! - had to take a bite before taking the picture. I absolutely love this place. Eat here a couple times a week and it's consistent. The one thing that isn't, is the ranch... sometimes is super good and fresh and other times it's not good at all. Absolutely Horrible customer service experience with this pizza place. I have a door hanger flyer that I've had for maybe a year? No promotion dates or expiration dates listed on there so I figured I was good to order with the same prices that I was provided. To my surprise when I called, I was pretty much being accused of lying or making up what I was telling them based off of the flyer they kept insisting I had the wrong location and that this absolutely was nothing that they'd ever heard of before. I was prompted to send a text message to some random phone number showing them the flyer for them to then tell me that they've already changed and upped their prices 4 to 5 times since that flyer. But again with no dates or expiration or saying promotion last for this long, I feel that I should've been given what I was advertised. Not my fault they forgot to put a promotion time limit and/or expiration dates on their flyer. The guy was trying to explain how expensive cheese is right now and it sounded so incredibly stupid and unprofessional . We all know the world is super expensive right now. I ordered the pesto pizza and the works over the weekend. My favorite was the pesto pizza. Both were crispy, fresh ingredients, tasted so darn good. Pesto pizza had blend of basil, ricotta, garlic and Mozzarella cheese. The works pizza had pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, onion, green bell pepper, salami and olives. Staff is always fun and friendly. They have some cool art work and photos on the wall, but other than that it's your standard counter and barstool seating. The service the first night we were there was great. We ordered a couple of slices of cheese for the kids and a couple slices with topping for ourselves. If you order two slices, you get a free drink, which was a nice touch. I didn't even know that because I was so exhausted, I didn't see the sign on the door, and the gentleman who rang us up was kind enough to inform us. The kids loved their cheese slices - the pizza was hot and fresh, the crust was well-made and crispy yet chewy. Our first two slices were with jalapeno and garlic, then we ordered another with mushroom, jalapeno and garlic. We were a fan of both. Later that week we decided to order carry out. Even though I called ahead, my pizza still wasn't ready when I got there so I waited in the car. No big deal. We got a small pie between us and it was enough - 3 medium-ish slices each with mushroom, jalapeno and garlic. I decided Bronx Pizza is too far for what it is (simply above average pizza), so now that Madra Pizza has closed (also above average) I'm trying to find a pizza place near the 92120 that fills that void. Sadly Milo's is not it. We got a cheese pizza. It was entirely mediocre. Breaking it down into individual components, the cheese and sauce were average, too.
