(12 years since my original review... methinks it's long overdue for a sprucing up.)  You ever just kinda forget about a place? Pietro's was in steady rotation for us years ago (their sandwich platters were more popular than the pizza, to be honest) and then... they fell off our radar.  Located on the corner of a wickedly-busy intersection - across the street from A1 (a legit pizzeria in their own right, lemme tell you) - Pietro's having their own parking lot is a major score.  How did our most recent visit end up shaking out? Pizza - comments around the dinner table consisted of, "Papa John's?" and, "reminds me of frozen". Underdone, a weak crust, a sweet sauce, there were no real positives unfortunately.  Cavatelli and Broccoli - my official "go-to" pasta dish all of 2023 and for something so basic/simple you'd be surprised at how many local places can't really nail it. Here?  Absolutely fantastic.  The pasta and (generous portion of) broccoli were swimming in a garlicky broth that was just brilliantly executed.  Mozz Sticks - overly oily and the side of marinara was deemed "too sweet" by the Mrs.  My official "In-Town Pizzeria Ranking - Autumn 2023 Edition" looks something like: Top of the Charts: Josie's (their pizza and their cavatelli-and-broc remain unmatched). Dead-last: Lyndhurst Pizza.  Pietro's is... mighty close to the bottom but that pasta dish saved them, for sure. (This one needs an asterisk since Pietro's is officially a 'trattoria' and we factored in their pasta in the grading.) read more

GARDEN FRESH TOMATO ON MY SANDWICH I have only had one of their sandwiches but is was really good. The bread was really fresh and nice and soft on the inside and crunchy in the outside. I took one bite and thought why does this taste so good and remind me of my childhood. The bread was really fresh, the meats tasted great but it was something else. I thought it might be the tomatoes. I asked if the tomatoes came from the store and they said that the owner has a garden in the back of the restaurant and when in season serves fresh home grown tomatoes (at least on the sandwiches as far as I know). Can not believe the difference this made, I knew it was something but crazy how a hyper local tomato can be SO good. read more

Haven't dined in here yet but have ordered take out a few times. There's a ton of Italian restaurants and pizzerias in the area but Pietros came highly recommended. Ordering is super easy, can order direct online or over the phone. Delivery is through the restaurant and for a Friday /Saturday night could take a little while but it is definitely worth the wait. Starting with an appetizer we ordered fried calamari which is something I don't normally order for takeout/delivery. However I was majorly impressed with how fresh it was and still crispy when it got here! For entrees we've had the chicken parm and eggplant parm. Chicken parm is thin and crispy! Eggplant was also extremely flavorful. Both entrees were huge portion sizes and were great for lunch leftovers the next day. Prices are also extremely fair for the quality and quantity of food! Ok. After sleeping on it, I'm ready to give this place a review. We were really feeling a chicken parm dinner last night, so being that I pass this place everyday, I decided to give this place a shot. Looks like a solid place and we were in the mood for a solid dinner... Not pizza joint chicken parm. Service was very good. The girl was extremely polite which is what's really keeping this at 2 stars. I got a side of pasta, my wife got a salad. I LOVE pasta. My wife opened hers and she said the smell hit her immediately. She looks at me and says... jar sauce. I say... no way. That's impossible. The pasta was rigatoni. I went for that first as I'm a total pasta freak. The first bite stopped me in my tracks. I felt like I just got dumped on prom night. Beyond over cooked and the sauce was just overly bitter.... or sour.... a cross between bitterly sour. Ok... I'm over thinking this. Let me try the chicken. Two nice size pieces. Unfortunately it was not edible. Chicken was tender but what was going on with this sauce???? I was beside myself. My kid got pizza from somewhere else and here I am wishing I got a dinner from where he went. It absolutely kills me to give 2 stars. At first sight Pietro's looks like a great restaurant very modern decor inside, staff seems nice. Now what's great decor without great food. I ordered a pepperoni pie and a chicken frisco sandwich. Chicken was dry there was no honey mustard had to add more to it. Now the pizza is on a whole other planet. The mozzarella they use is absolutely shit. The sauce taste like they use prego marinara sauce. I definitely think they should give their pizzas away. Just to show you how much shit this pizza is I have a couple pictures of it. This review is a week plus in the waiting but definitely deserved by Pietro's. I was craving a hamburger (not unusual for me) and my fiancé was in the mood for something from Pietro's so, I decided to give their bacon cheeseburger a shot. SURPRISE! It was actually really good - it could be pretty hit or miss from a place you go to for quality Italian food. I was not expected it to arrive on a pizza bread but that was probably exactly what put it over the top for me. The patty was thick and juicy and all of the accompaniments were super fresh and plentiful. They were not stingy on the bacon like I find many establishments to be either. The french fries were perfectly seasoned and of the proper size. I highly suggest trying it - you will be most pleasantly surprised. this is the second time i ordered catering trays of food. prices went up some, costs have gone up with everything. But you certainly get your money's worth! I ordered chicken parm. I was a customer at Pietro's for over 10 years but my recent experience puts an end to that. I order 2 things. 1 wrap, 1 sandwich. Added bacon to both. Was charged $3 for that addition. No big deal. Got home. No bacon. Called them and let them know the sandwich didn't have any bacon and the manager told me she took the order personally and I did not ask for bacon. I asked "Why was I charged an additional $3 then?" And her response was: "The sandwich you ordered isn't on our menu, so, it's because it was a custom"....so I say "but the other wrap got the bacon....and they were both priced the same?" So she just made absolutely no attempt to fix the problem and instead focused on telling me to fuck off in not so many words. I then asked her if I had ordered a sandwich that was on their menu and asked for it without cheese, would I be charged $3 and she said, amazingly, yes! "THE PRICE IS THE PRICE" she said to wrap things up. I have been ordering from this place for a long time. It has never cost anything to "customize" an order. Beyond that, I asked for a basic sandwich. Manager was having a bad day and took it out on the customer. Done with this place. read more

My SO raves about this place all the time so naturally we rolled in on a Saturday evening. We called ahead for a table for 6, so everything was all set up by the time we showed up, which was much appreciated especially with 2 young children. The store front is pretty large, 5+ tables with causal seating. For dine in, there is no liquor available, it is take out only. Food - 2/2 We started with calamari and buffalo wings. The calamari was perfectly fried with a nice touch with the spicy and sweet sauces. The buffalo wings were honestly nothing to write home about. My SO got the stuffed flounder and I got the stuffed rigatoni. The stuffed sole is apparently a staple for my SO, he orders it probably once a month. It is so light, tender and stuffed with tons of chunky crabmeat, who can go wrong there? And to end, my stuffed pasta... delicious. The rigatoni was perfectly al dente and extra large, along with the meat sauce, so actually die for. Portions are generous, more than enough for lunch/dinner AND have a meal for the following day. Service 0.5/1 I love going to mom-and-pop shops because you know you get quality home-cooked meals. My only pet peeve was that there was only one server for the entire place though. Don't get me wrong, she was fabulous, but running around a lot. Price 2/2 Its typical pricing for an Italian joint in North Jers. Always get some sort of grilled chicken wrap. Love the fresh mooz roasted peppers grilled chicken wrap and my girl always gets the chicken francaise sub or the steak and mushrooms. Trattoria We were in the area for work and needed a place to refuel and discuss some work related stuff so we did a quick Yelp search and Pietro's was the winner. An interesting place when you walk in - sort of half deli, half sit down place with bottles of wine on one of the walls and a counter to place your order - or in our case, we grabbed a table and had a waitress bring some menus. A Trattoria is one of those Italian places where you can get anything from a snack to a full blown meal and we pretty much tried a little of everything. The menu is comprehensive and since one of our party was from the south, he wanted to try something very Italian... perfect. The waitress was quick and efficient and knew that menu inside and out - we ordered up a bunch of stuff and got down to the business of stuffing our faces. Since it was lunch, we passed on the wines. All in all a solid eatery with extremely decent prices for everything. Definitely a must-try if in the area. Parking is hit or miss as they have a teeny parking lot and the streets are also loaded with cars, so you may have to walk a little to get in there - but it is worth the walk. read more

I also tried their house salad with balsamic...dressing was not good. I like the atmosphere here. It's a great casual lunch joint (cafe/deli sit down). I've ordered from so many places that do not deserve 1 star, but hate leaving negative reviews because you never know if it's just a bad day, but Pietro's has always been outstanding! Not good, but phenomenal, no matter what we order. I can say for sure their Pietro's Salad is by far that best affordable quality salad anywhere around. Their pastas, sandwiches (the Italian, wow!) are always fresh and plentiful. The young lady who normally answers the phone is always pleasant. In-house delivery is always quick and efficient and the kitchen tries to accommodate special request, but at least lets you know when they can't. Worse experience ever. I ordered through Grubhub because obviously there's a pandemic. They sent a completely different order. When we called back they said the buttons must be off in Grubhub and we hope you order from us again. I called back stating that why would we be ok with food we didn't order. Said let me call you back. When they called they said Grubhub put the order in incorrectly and that this what not a problem they created. For me to bring back the food to exchange it. I absolutely LOVE this place. I Was introduced to it about 3-4 years ago. I've taken out of town guests here and they love it. Have brought friends and I've also gone alone. I've been a 2-3 times a month to go customer since the CV Q lockdown. Chicken Murphy is sooooo good. The sauce is so flavorful and silky. Nice spice to it with the cherry peppers. It's my regular. My favorite dish. Their meatballs are good and always get the cheesy garlic bread. And the eggplant parm is good too. The eggplant is Not breaded just like I like it. The 3-star rating is based on the two sandwiches that we got (grilled chicken with roasted peppers, mozzarella cheese with oil & vinegar and roast beef sandwich with gravy and mozzarella cheese). The bread had a nice snap to it. The combination of flavors was very nice. I was told delivery would take 45 minutes but the food got here in about 25 min. HOWEVER, I would give the tiramisu 0 star. To charge $4 for something so small is highway robbery. We will order sandwiches again but not dessert. I would've given 4 stars, but I had to deduct for the dessert. read more

This is a cute quiet place, family oriented. Place is very inviting, great seating and conveniently located on Ridge Road, with parking. Staff was very welcoming and pleasant. We ordered dinner, I of course had baked ziti. Portions were very good and food was delicious. Their deserts are even better, we had a red velvet cake and it just melted in your mouth. Such an excellent find! The atmosphere is casual and homey. The service was awesome and friendly! We had Donna both times. We first had a nice lunch here on a Sunday. I had a shrimp and broccoli over cavatelli. Loaded with flavor and so many shrimp! Their eggplant parm was thin and fresh. Their sauce is light and flavorful as well. We returned in the same week for my birthday dinner. A party of 5 and we were treated like family. The hot antipasto and fried calamari became instant favorites. So I've been visiting this place for my Manhattan Specials. I maybe twice a month go visit this place with my backpack. When I get there, I pack as many of the espresso sodas that I can carry. Make my purchase and haul the bag home. Super heavy since they are glass bottles. The last two times I had an issue with the freshness of the espresso. Tastes stale as s***. I went back to explain the soda situation, especially since these are not cheap. And the owner was sitting there with his buddies all of whom watched this take place and while he told me to basically screw myself and it's just me. He's like "it's just you" "no refund". THis place is usually good. It's always my go to spot. Unfortunately, if u order on the wrong day, the food is garbage. For example, tonight I ordered the sliced steak salad- which you would assume would be a healthier option... Not the case. My salad was topped with a huge mound of disgusting greasy steak-umms ( I think the owner should note that on the menu. It's very deceiving). Also, the dressing, which thank GOD I asked for it on the side, was clearly white vinegar mixed with pink lemonade. It was absolutely. Disgusting. Also, the gentleman who took the order was very short with me. Not good customer skills. Although our food arrived within 10 mins, I'm very disappointed in the food tonight. The rice balls were huge, but bland and mushy. My sandwich, was huge. Mortadella with aged provolone. Nothing special and the bread a bit soggy, no snap. I love the buffalo chicken salad! I get it with vjngarette dressing rather than buffalo dressing. But the best part is the chicken (which is how it should be). If I remember correctly, I also like the buffalo chicken wrap but I have been trying to cut back. My mom loves the chicken picata and my brother loves the chicken parm. They usually have a seasonal/holiday type meal going on during the respective season, like during St. Patrick's Day they had corned beef and cabbage which is always a bonus especially if you have a late day at work or only one person in the family wants it! My gut always says never eat in a empty restaurant but we were Hungry but it was late and most places are closed on Monday looked nice from the outside but inside smelled like a rest stop bathroom.I asked for a glass of wine considering there were numerous bottles on different shelves but was told they were only for to go. I ordered a coke and was given a bottle of flat I believe previously opened soda. I ordered pasta with vodka sauce thinking they can't mess this up but sadly they I've had better sauce from canned jars. The eggplant parm was just as horrible it was gray and inedible. We know there are many good places around this are and thought highly of this place but it was despicable. Awesome lunch spot, also great for takeaway. I've been eating here for years and I've never had a bad meal or a bad experience. My favorite food items are buffalo chicken wraps and buffalo chicken salads, all of their salads, and their grilled chicken sandwich. I love that you buy wine here, they will open it for you at the restaurant. They also have tasty daily specials and awesome take home deserts. I generally order takeout from here but on the rare occasion I've eaten in the restaurant, the staff was very attentive and friendly.
