I had a very pleasant lunch experience here recently. The restaurant was not crowded, so we were told to choose our table. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I had a really delicious Bloody Mary with a nice kick of horseradish. For lunch, I ordered the Fresca pizza. This had fresh mozzarella, black olives, and artichoke hearts. It was tasty, with a good amount of toppings. Nothing fantastic, but it certainly did the trick. Also, it was a great price at $14. My husband ordered the Steak Giombatta. This dish was massive. Plenty of steak and sausage cooked with peppers and onions, all surrounded by mounds of thin fried potatoes. This is a delicious and impressive dish. We really enjoyed our meal here. This place is lively on a Friday night! What a fun atmosphere. Came here on an early Friday evening and was pleasantly surprised by the down to earth service and food. We started with the rice balls, and they were vegetarian and delicious. The vodka sauce on the side really sent us. We also got the mushroom ravioli which was rich and a bit earthy. We would love to come back here and try the pizza! This time we were full until the next day despite splitting the appetizer and entree. The food is generally good, and it has the potential to be a wonderful place - but for two big issues: (1) terrible acoustics. You have to shout to be heard. Wish there was some way to fix that. (2) inattentive wait staff. It was not crowded. After we were seated - we were completely ignored for 10 minutes. Table empty except for plates. No one offered us bread or water (some of the other tables got bread). The server was friendly - but the order was messed up. They specifically asked if I wanted the food served one way - I said no - and they did it that way anyway. When the server finally came back, they said they should have gone into the kitchen themselves and that the other workers were inept. After we finished dinner, we asked for the check - crickets. Could not find our waiter, no other servers were on the floor (or if they were we did not see them). We motioned for a young woman who was working behind the bar (actually standing around doing nothing) - motioned for her - she became annoyed and said (in a very rude manner), "I thought there was some kind of emergency" and when we asked for the check said, "I'm not your server." The manager tried to smooth things over, but that experience really ruined it for me so I will never go back. Note: I really don't want to be a "Karen" and honestly did not complain about the other issues (being ignored, order screwed up, etc.) but the way the young server spoke to us was completely obnoxious. I go out to dinner with friends every weekend and at least once during the week - I can't imagine going back here unless it's for a take-out order. read more

Luna is NEVER a disappointment. There is nothing on the menu that I have tried that didn't exceed in flavor, taste and the way it was prepared. The Pizza's, - all great. The main courses, great. The sandwiches, great. The Apps, - great. The Salads, great. The owner Lou and his entire staff including the cooks, bartenders, waiters and waitresses make this place what it is. A wonderful experience in my hometown! Highly recommend if you are thinking about trying. They also have a private party room that could be rented out if you are looking for a place. read more

Stopped in at Luna's for lunch with a friend. It was absolutely quiet - we had the place to ourselves. We got two pies and their rice balls. Everything was good but just a little underwhelming. The rice balls were probably my favorite, crispy and the sauce was good too. The pizzas were alright, I mean not bad by any means just not amazing. Service was great, mainly because we were the only ones there but overall a good lunch. Is there better pizza in nutley? Yes. Maybe I'll try their pastas next time and compare. Stopped in for a meal and a drink after conducting some business in Nutley, and wow what a great meal we had. I enjoyed some bruschetta, some beet salad, and the best Philly cheesesteak sandwich I ever had. They beat Philly hands down. The red peppers in the sandwich tasted amazing. The beet salad was absolutely delicious, made with lots of fresh beets. The best part though was the service, every employee works hard to please each and every customer, and they do it with a genuine smile. Party Room review: love the size of the party room, it's great for smaller events. For starters, we had calamari and arancini which were both so delicious. For the buffet entrees the eggplant rollatini was my favorite, so delicious! The chicken Marsala was and pasta were ok. Caesar salad had too much dressing for my preference. For desserts - the cannoli's were my favorite! Big and flavorful. The Nutella pizza was ok, nothing special there. I think the thought of Nutella on pizza crust is exciting to some but I prefer it to be a little more flavorful with toppings or something else. The white sangria was also delicious and the service was great! Very attentive and friendly. Would come here again and possibly book my own event here. read more

So I met my friend here for lunch. We shared the calamari with teriyaki. Calamari was tender with a bit of crispness. Very good. My friend had the Italian chicken sandwich. He stated it was pretty good ! So I saw they had a pork panini with Broccoli Rabe with provolone. ( Which is probably my favorite sandwich when made right). So my husband and I returned for dinner on the same day!! We ordered the potato, sausage and long hots as an appetizer. Excellent.... Very filling. Mozzarella sticks for the teen.. The pork panini was surprisingly delicious. The pork was sliced thin, seasoned perfectly, juicy with the correct amount of broccoli rabe and provolone. Paired with an Au jus sauce on the side!! Hubs ordered the Luna rib eye sandwich. He said it was good but tried my panini and said he should have ordered that instead. Service was great.. inside is very nice. Cool place to come hangout. Happy Sunday Adventurers! I was here last weekend to meet up with some friends in the area. We tried a variety of drinks--old fashioned, some sort of spritz, my first espresso martini and of course an extra dirty martini. I've been trying them at different places just see how they're made. The service was quick and efficient, really great vibe at the bar. I loved the steak crostini, the meat was cooked perfectly and tender with great flavor. I also ordered a special pizza from an older menu--it wasn't bad just very tart/acidic. I'd still recommend it I think if they added ricotta it would break all that up. I did not like the espresso martini, too sweet. I think that's how they are suppose to taste but I'd prefer less sweet more espresso. They host parties in the larger room next door so unless the doors closed you'll hear a lot of kids running/screaming. Parking wasn't too bad, but it was a Sunday and cold, you'll probably have a harder time on a different day. I'd like to come back here during a happy hour if they still offer it. I think it would be a good time with wine and pizza! read more

Decided to drop by Luna Wood Fire Tavern on a whim, as we were in the area for another shop. My party of three wanted to have dinner somewhere there would be a lot of options which is how we landed here. The tavern was at a quiet point in the evening so we were able to take in how cozy and detailed this restaurant feels. After browsing the menu and asking our server a couple of questions, we decided to get the Steak Crostinis, a Margherita pizza, and the pasta faglioi. We were first served a bread basket with olive oil which was a pleasant surprise! We didn't wait too long for our food to come out and to be blown away by our selection. I dipped a piece of bread into the soup which tasted nice. The pizza was the perfect size to be a personal pie or to share. The steak crostinis stole the show for us - the texture of the steak was soft, seasoned beautifully, mixed with arugula, red pepper and a horseradish sauce, on top a little bread... pure perfection! Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Luna Wood. Would definitely recommend! read more

Moment my friend and I walked in we did not feel welcomed. Hostess walked up to us and gave us a seat then took her time to come back before asking us for drinks (it was empty). We asked questions about the drink options and she responded rudely -- then asking for ID's (my friend and I are 21). She assesses them in the back then tells us they are not valid and "should not attempt to use them in other establishments." Not use my license in other establishments? I dared her to call the police because this is just ridiculous. We were looking to spend good money on food and drinks and were met with a rude waitress with an ego problem. Good luck! read more

I've had 3 experiences here. First time food was amazing with the exception of a small piece of wire (possibly from a metal cleaning brush) on my pizza that I bit into. Staff was profusely apologetic and offered to comp the pizza which we declined. Second was a take out order and everything was really good except the cannoli pizza which was lacking in any real cannoli substance. Third was a visit in person, and everything was okay, not great. Been going to Luna for a while now, the atmosphere is great. The food is good, sometimes the service is not so good, you have a lot of young kids just standing around, playing on their phones and talking a lot to where they forget about their customers. I'd say 3.5/5. The main server was very helpful and nice but her food runner (who I'm assuming is new?) was pretty rough, slamming our plates down and forgetting to bring us extra utensils. We also weren't brought bread when sat down although every other table did. We started with the stuffed meatballs, eggplant stack, and Tuscan style calamari (balsamic glaze, sausage, hot cherry peppers) for appetizers. The sauce for the meatballs was great (and would have been awesome to dip bread into) but the meatballs themselves were lacking in flavor a bit. The eggplant stack was nice and refreshing, but the calamari was not what we were hoping for. There wasn't a balsamic glaze but a puddle of balsamic dressing pooled at the bottom of the dish and the hot peppers were chopped so tiny that I only found two in the whole plate. The amount of balsamic, and the fact that it was the liquid and not a glaze, made it almost inedible. I got the Italian Chicken Sandwich which was honestly so good it made up for the fact that the calamari was so bad. The fries were nice and crispy and delicious. For dessert we got tiramisu with caramel drizzle and it was really tasty. Since this was my first time at Luna I wasn't quite sure what to expect. We went on a Tuesday around dinner time and just expected a simple dinner with family but it was LOUD. We were almost shouting to hear one another across the table. And it seemed as though every 20 or so minutes they were dimming the lights more and more which seemed unnecessary as it was already relatively dim at 6pm. All in all it was good. I. Don't know what happened but I used to love this place &. Went almost every other week. A room was added, seating in main part changed ... don't like it ! Waiter was slow, food was not the same. For starters we tried the Tuscan style calamari which was tasty. We also split the Margarita pie which was fantastic. Would definitely get again, along with other pies. For entrees I got a sandwich, while my friends got a a salad or pasta. The portion sizes were big; I think we all thought our entrees were just OK. Overall would definitely come back for pizza. I've ordered delivery and pick up from Luna Wood Fire Tavern on several occasions. Customer service is Very Good all around! As of now, I've ordered their Italian steak salad, Beet salad, Harvest salad, Steak Crostini and of course their DELICIOUS & FRESH PIZZA!!!. All the salads are very good. The harvest salad is one of my favorites. It has sweet butternut squash and apples with a side pomegranate dressing! I have yet to actually dine in the restaurant. However, I will keep all of you updated on the dining experience. Parking is plentiful- specifically street parking and a lot in the back. Definitely recommend this place!!! read more

Never had a bad meal from Luna. We generally order take out, but it is always hot and to the order. I highly recommend Luna!

Pizza is good, everything else about our food was awful. It was the worst food I've ever had at restaurant. The soppressata on our pizza tasted like spoiled meat. The slices without it were excellent though. I ordered the teriyaki salmon. The rice was undercooked and inedible, the salmon was very low quality and was not cooked in the teriyaki sauce, so it had no flavor. There was a piece of hair in my food before I even touched the dish, so it certainly wasn't mine. This entree should never have left the kitchen. There's no way any experienced chef (or person who knows how to cook) would send that out. Awful and Definitely not worth a $100+ dinner for two between the service and quality of food. Additionally, I ordered an old fashioned, it wasn't balanced at all. It also didn't taste like bulleit, closer to rubbing alcohol. read more

My first review in over 5 years. Stopped in for a quick dinner because my restaurant of choice was booked for a private party. Unfortunately, I wish I remained hungry. I was sat at a reasonable time 8:30. I have never felt so rushed in my life. The server asked me how we're doing every 2 minutes as if she had somewhere to be. The food arrived and she asked how everything was within 2 minutes, great. She comes back in another 2 minutes asking us if we need any boxes. Huh!? Mind you I'm a big guy. I must've took 2 bites before she asked if I need any food wrapped up. Then after being pressured for 20 minutes I gave in and asked for the bill. 5 minutes later the server was counting her money 2 tables behind me. As a former server myself I remember 1 rule: do not count your money in front of guests! Is this a fair review of the restaurant? I don't know and I don't care. This is my local go to... The food is consistently delicious! The wood fire pizza's are very, very good. Cocktails are primo. Love Luna's fried potatoes w/ long hots and sausage, stuffed meatballs, short ribs, fried calamari, pasta w/ brandy cream sauce... I could go on and on!!! TV's everywhere, never miss a game.
