Went with cold antipasto, eggplant rollatini (has ham in it) with side of ziti, Scquingili marinara over capellini, but came out served over linguine and a Zuppa di pesce over linguine. Ordered an eggplant parm sandwich. It was very big, a lot of eggplant, but had little cheese and sauce. The woman at the counter wasn't friendly and acted annoyed because I wanted to read the menu first. When I returned home, i seasoned it with garlic powder, salt and grated cheese because the taste was flat. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good enough to warrant a second visit. Meh. read more

DELICIOUS!!! I can not express enough what a Magnificent Pizza Joint Villa Italia really is! True old school to the core! The kitchen is right behind the counter. You can watch some of the finest tasting fresh mozzarella I've ever tasted being pulled right before your eyes. Watch a pie get tossed up in the air with talant and grace. As someone who also pointed out this restaurant is completely incompetent with their to go orders. Missed a simple order that they refuse to make because they were about to close which is understandable, but refusing to refund me back since it was charged to a card is kind of slime bag move. Then some jerk from the back has the audacity to question me and give me attitude when I asked them politely what they can do. The the owner then offered to give me the item free next time... right... you going to remember me huh? As my pizza journey continues.... We hit Villa Italia Saturday night to see what we can see. Buffalo Chicken is always a must for the kids. I got the Penne Vodka pizza and a meatball parm hero. Buffalo Chicken pie was average. I felt it was a little dry. Needed a boost of ranch. Gotta have the ranch. Penne Vodka pizza was excellent. Very tasty and the pie was not too floppy. It's hard to find a good meatball parm... but I found one. Meatballs were very good and the sauce was excellent. My oldest son got an Italian hero... word of advice.. large is about 3 feet long. Still my favorite Italian restaurant. I now live in jersey city and will still make the hike here for comfort food. Very fairly priced and portions are great. I always call it in because this place can get pretty packed. Very family oriented and your basics from pizza to pasta tastes like your classic Italian jersey food. Between Lyndhurst and North Arlington alone there are literally probably 100 pizzerias to choose from but Villa has become one of our go to's. In terms of pizza I think it's all personal preference on what you like, but Villa pizza has been consistent and is a good ratio of cheese, sauce and crust. Pizza is always cooked well not burnt or under done. Nothing fancy but it's a decent pie and good price. Aside from pizza other food we've tried here has also been good. Wings are crispy. Chicken tenders are good for the kids and are decent sized. Chicken dinners are a good size portion, usually two pieces of chicken and can be shared. Penne vodka is also done really well, sauce is not overly creamy. They offer various family special deals which work nicely if you have a group that doesn't just want pizza. Very good price and you get a full set up. Depending on which you order but usually a mix of pizza, some type or app or dinner, bread salad and soda. Makes ordering easy! Note delivery times on a weekend is typically an hour so plan ahead! read more

I recently went on a weekend to VI. Went into the dining room and only one other table was occupied. Ordered some basic Italian entrees and the drinks. The server brought the wrong drink, no big deal. After 1/2 hour we finally got bread hot and crunchy. No real food after 45 minutes so I start asking how much longer? At about 1 hour and 15 minutes our entrees came luke warm and drown in red sauce. By the time we got halfway through the portions everything was cold. The only saving grace were the desserts which might have been Bindi and were excellent. I don't get how the kitchen can't handle basic meals on a timely manner. read more

The food here is always a 5. The service will vary depending on the night. I would give it 5 but for the service. I came on a Monday night and the kitchen was blaring out Maricahi music over the dining room music. A request to a server to choose one soundtrack versus two ended up with the Mariachi getting raised louder the kitchen staff singing out the lyrics as if I was in a bar versus a restaurant. There are dozens of Italian places to choose from many of which I frequent, none of which I have to hear the outpouring of Maricahi music from the kitchen. No reason to go back when I can go to others and eat a meal respectfully in a dining room without controversy from the kitchen staff and managers who didn't have the common sense to correct it. read more

Delicious food, even better service. We ordered the mozzarella sticks, fried shrimp, garlic knots, fried Mac n cheese balls, pepperoni pizza and chicken parm. Everything tasted very fresh and the crispiness of all the fried foods were great, nothing was soggy or overly greasy either! Best thing that stood out aside from the AMAZING pizza was the marinara sauce. I have a hard time finding marinara sauce that doesn't give me heartburn, and this sauce is the exception. I have NEVER had a bad meal at Villa Italia...his gravy is the absolute best. I thought I made a delicious gravy. His is, hands down, so good that my 4 year old granddaughter ate it with a spoon instead of with her mozzarella sticks. The pizza is excellent; the mushroom risotto is delectable...all the soups are so good. The waitstaff are all very courteous. Honestly, I can't find a thing wrong to say about it!!! Nice people, consistently giving a good pie. I travel from the next town over to pick up from the restaurant. Our go to order is the Family #2 special, medium sauce on the mussels. The women answering the phones is nice, she takes the time to repeat the order back to you to make sure everything is correct. I would really go with a 3.5 star here. It's a nice pizza spot with many pasta options. We got the ravioli in vodka sauce. The sauce tasted like a pretty a little sweeter than most but had a nice consistency. They come with half a dozen which is large enough for 1 person. The chicken parmesan was good as well. It had a large portion size. The marinara sauce was not overpowering. The side pasta and marinara sauce was very bland. They serve you with warm fresh bread which goes nice with their house olive oil. The server was a young girl who was nice. But being that it was a very quiet day one would hope we were attended to closely. She often went missing and we had to ask for refills and/or condiments. Passed this place countless times and recently a co-worker (an old-school Italian who is mighty picky where he goes to eat) couldn't stop raving about Villa Italia and he's going one or two times a week now. So the family ventured in recently. As you're walking to the place it starts to smell amazing from the street. And it's busy - countless people coming and going (to sit down and eat or get stuff to go) - which is always a good sign. We sat down and the place was booming - the young staff were hustling and the customers (all seem to be regulars) were all enjoying themselves. (It's BYOB and plenty of people already had that 'glow' thanks to the joys of alcohol.) As the volume of the patrons increased so did the music and sure enough - "Volare" comes on and a few people at different tables start to belt it out. (I've always wanted to be somewhere where people start to break out into song like in musicals and it finally happened!) Now the restaurant is small and pretty bare bones but what they might lack in aesthetics they make up where it counts - the food. They make a damn fine pizza (we tried two different ones) and really good sandwiches. If I needed to gripe I'd say one of the line cooks is just a tad too adamant about the Mediterranean Diet because everything was just a wee bit too oily. Friendly staff. Delicious food. This is probably my favorite Italian restaurant in the area. Villa Italia is authentic Italian food that tastes like it's made right out of your mother's kitchen. The staff makes your meal even better with their awesome service. Every entree comes with a choice of pasta or salad on the side. I got the Chicken Murphy over linguini. Just had our holiday luncheon today. The food was awesome. The salads were fresh and crispy. The bread was warm. The chef was able to accommodate altering 2 dishes to not include parm cheese for a vegan. The delivery guy was super friendly. The parking is incredibly limited. Chances are high that you will have to find parking on the street. The few times that I've tried this place, I've gotten their pizzas. I ordered for pick-up every time as I hear the wait time isn't the greatest. During busy hours, there is usually a crowd standing in the small receiving area either waiting to be seated or picking up an order. Either way, it's a mess. I'm not a fan of the service they provide. The food is good but it's not worth the experience. I felt like an inconvenience and also rushed. The food here is pretty good, never had a real big problem with anything. The issue I have with this place is they can never get it right when taking an ordering and delivering it without something being either wrong or just not bringing something. Out of the 20 times I've ordered from here atleast 15 times they got something wrong or forgot to bring something. If it wasn't for the good food I wouldn't order. One issue I had was I guess they were running out of the normal bread they put the sandwiches together with and gave me some other bread that was gross. My advice to people ordering from here is go pick it up and double check everything. read more
