This is a mid sized store so not stocked with everything but a good option when you need items, especially if you are staying on St. George Is. The day we shopped, they were apparently restocking and the empty boxes were everywhere, but we found what we needed. The staff were helpful as we tried to locate some items and they were running some BOGO on wines that were really great sales! read more

This PW functioned as our main food-shopping place during a stay on St. George Island. Keep mind in mind, it's not on the island, but near enough to make a we-need-food run, and not lose too much of the day. In forgotten-coast terms, it's a "big" grocery. If you're from a big city, it may not seem so big, but you'll find a decent selection of good stuff. Among the pros is a gluten-free section, where Therese H. could find GF pasta, and even GF flours if more serious cooking or baking were contemplated. Currently, the deli gives you an order form to fill out, and they slice and package your order while you shop, which was nice for the Boar's Head lunch fixings. Then she told us to take groceries out of basket rudely. Acted the whole time like we were bothering her. Then tells us to take basket back to where we got it, very rudely. Probably the best place to get a full line of groceries in town. Seemed to be Lot of locals there. Some groceries were reasonable prices. Others were outrageous. The deli looked nice. Had boars head Meats. Meat counter looked fresh. Really didn't have much fresh bakery items. Found everything I needed at some price. read more

Wide selection of specialty items. Has the basics of any Piggly-Wiggly, but also stocks some less typical snack items, organic packaged food, and some things you'd find at a Whole Foods or Sprouts type store in a bigger town. For a tiny town's grocery, it's way above average. read more

Your store is really disgusting. It looks like it hasn't been updated in 30 years. We've been to the store last year and this year and it is small very small variety and not welcoming on the outside and more expensive than the one in Port St Joe Florida. The Piggly Wiggly in Port Saint Joe is bright up-to-date clean and a good variety. Apalachicola has a lot of tourists and this is basically the only place to go and that is very sad. I love this store. It has everything you will need - hot deli food, fresh sushi, variety of bakery items, gluten free, vegan options, a wide wine selection, great steaks, etc. It was just recently remodeled inside and it looks great! The managers are always helpful and kind. They ordered me in a special product that I was looking for that they didn't originally have on their shelves. Just left the Piggly Wiggly in Apalachicola. The sign says masks required, yet maybe half of the employees wear them. Also, as I was checking out the girl took a bite of a sandwhich at the register and was not wearing a mask. The employees yell across the store about personal conversations. Unimpressed by the customer services. Supposed management yells at customers from across the registers to minimize any effort to interact with the customer. Store is lacking quality produce, shelves are particularly empty, and is very disheveled/dirty. Cleanliness is not a priority at this Particular Piggly Wiggly. They might have a decent wine selection but that is all they have going for them. I do not recommend this store in Apalachicola. Drive 20 miles either way to stores in Carabelle or St Joe. You have to go to Tallahassee for quality groceries. It's worth the drive. I would give 0 stars but you are not able to. read more

One of two larger grocery stores closest to St. George Island, this Piggly Wiggly is more about character than quality. Their recent "renovations" are all exterior and went completely unnoticed by my family who has been shopping here every summer for over 5 years. The selection is a bit outdated and dusty and will disappoint any diehard Publix patrons visiting from out of town. This Piggly Wiggly's produce section is limited, expensive, and somewhat nauseating. If you have a weakness for little white furry things, you'll love their strawberries, though! Finding a good tomato is like Russian Roulette - you're bound to get squirt with tomato guts eventually. If you like green or yellow bananas, you're best off saying adios to Chiquita while you're shopping at The Pig - the bananas look more like something that came out of a labrador retriever than something you'd like to peel, let alone eat. If you're not into really fresh food, you'll probably find everything you want here. They've got the essentials and plenty of soft drinks and snacks, and their meat section is decent, too. My dog liked the ground beef so much that he even left a Piggly-Wiggly-banana-like gift for me on the bathroom floor of the beach rental I'm staying in! If you're staying on St. George Island and want to do all of your grocery shopping for the week in one place, you will get everything you need here, but I'd recommend going to the IGA down the street first. The best part of shopping at Piggly Wiggly is definitely the unique character and personality of the store. Entering the store is a bit like entering the Twilight Zone: the clerks move slowly, talk slowly, and have a bit of a delayed response to anything and everything - it's a very interesting mix of people. There's also a very random pizza place inside the store, and we actually have been pleased with the thin crust pies we've ordered here in the past. It's comparable to Pizza Hut, but you can select all of the toppings you want for no extra charge. Just remember to articulate and say your order s-l-o-w-l-y and c-l-e-a-r-l-y to the employee taking your order. The pig merchandise is pretty funny, and I won't deny that I do own a Piggly Wiggly tee and long to purchase one of their newly released "Peace, Love, The Pig" trucker hats (in baby blue, please). Although this store is a notch under the nearby IGA, I couldn't imagine my annual summer trip here without at least one trip to The Pig! read more

(2000) The store seemed a little sketchy on the outside, but we didn't have too many options while in Port St. Joe. So we drove to Apalachicola after we made our shopping list. We wound our way through the store and all we could not find was deli meat - we would have been happy with some Hillshire Farms or Oscar Meyer. Slowest service ever. After shopping we finally found the deli counter in the corner and I spent over 30 minutes waiting for the more inefficient young woman slice 4 meats for us. Meanwhile, my friends checked out, walked across the street to the CVS and shopped... I was still waiting for the ham, roast beef, turkey and salami. No apologies for the disorganization and the turtle-like service. I would try another Piggly Wiggly before returning to this one, I think. read more

Returned to St. George some eight months after I left the previous review, and it seems that little has changed at the local Piggly Wiggly. I will applaud the deli folks for providing the right meats and cheeses this time around, a notable improvement compared to my 2020 visit. Unfortunately, it seems nobody has yet to realize that the Boar's Head sandwich pepperoni comes wrapped in plastic which should really be peeled back before slicing. At least now I know, thanks to last year's experience, to check for this when assembling a sandwich, and I suppose it is but a minor inconvenience for me to have to delicately remove the plastic from each individual slice. Speaking of slices: if you're looking for some cost-saving opportunities, you could save money on the printer toner you use when making the deli order slips, as there seems to be no point in printing a column asking how the customer would like each item sliced when everything is going to be sliced exactly the same thickness. read more

They just remodeled the exterior of this store. Personally, I don't really care for the new look... it looks rather unfinished to me. But, the store itself is pretty good. They have a large selection of wines and cheeses that you can't find anywhere else in Apalach. They're good at ordering interesting, gourmet items. Who doesn't like that? They have gas pumps, which do not have the Pay-at-the-Pump feature. That is rather annoying, but gas tends to be cheaper here in general, so that kind of makes up for the inconvenience of having to go inside to pay for gas. I'm used to bad grocery stores at resort areas but this one beats them all for grocery horror. When is the last time you bought butter that was moldy, or coagulated milk. Bagged whole romain lettuce swimming in yellow goo. According to the produce employee "that's how it comes"! When I write a review, I try to look at everything in a logical perspective. I understand, for example, that anybody can have a bad day. Like with any other grocery store (including the one I am currently employed with), some things (mostly minor things) can slip through the cracks. As a result, I try to give reviews that are accurate, but I try not to nitpick. This is what I observed when I go into Piggly Wiggly: 1) The workers are very nice people. I've worked at places where the atmosphere was ruined because of rude workers/managers/owners (not just someone having a bad day because of the issues of life, which we all have). 2) There's a huge selection of different foods to choose from (From classic American to Thai to Hispanic to Japanese to Italian and more). 3) The beer/wine selection is impressive (from standard beers (Budweiser, for example) to craft beers (Shiner)). All grocery stores have bad pieces of produce pop up from time to time and goods on the shelf do expire, but the workers do a pretty good job keeping up with it and removing anything that needs to be removed (I understand that nobody's perfect, so I keep that in mind). read more

Based on the reviews, I was expecting a subpar shopping experience. The building is attached to a gas station, which put me off at first. However, the produce was fresh and I was actually surprised at the variety of items they offered at the store. It is a little disorganized, but I didn't come to the beach just to grocery shop. We came in here to get donuts, coffee and drinks for our family. We came in to late for there hot foods. Otherwise we might have gotten chicken. They were already cleaning up. I like the hometown feel of theses stores. It feels like community. I don't get that feeling where I live. Of course I live in a big city. They have a great selection of items you don't usually find in a small town, their meats are freshly cut, the produce is fresh( they have the misting coolers for their produce). they also have a great selection of organic foods.The staff is friendly at both stores Apalachicola and St. George Island. Lay-out somewhat confusing. No beer/wine (was kindly directed to Haughty Heron next door). Very friendly staff. I just returned from this store where I purchased two items and paid cash. When I counted my change, right at the checkout, I discovered I had been short changed 30 cents. Not only was the cashier and another employee she pulled into the situation rude about the situation (they treated me like I was some kind of criminal) but in the end refused to make it right. Very shortsighted to lose a customer over 30 cents, but they have! Go to the IGA, a much cleaner store with better customer service. read more

I just visited July 25th Saturday evening I grabbed two boxes of chicken already cooked I know the line had been closed this chicken was so pitiful the Hogs would need it it was so hard and burnt I could smell it something told me don't get it I smelt it to the package the cross was so hard almost needed a knife to cut through one of the thighs I got dark meat they either over Friday or they left it on the steam table so long and box it up at near the evening before they clean the steam table down they should have took that God dang scraps chicken and threw it in the trash that is pitiful those girls should be called down have a meeting and have common sense or whoever put that chicken in a box to sell you made money off of scraps or refried chicken you should fry fresh chicken at all times to put in those boxes not scraps has been cooked to death over the steam table you probably was slow I'm coming to report it at the manager I want my money back or I want to fresh fresh boxes of chicken read more

For the most part I liked this store but the deli department has a lot to learn about customer service. you have to fill out a form to get your lunch meat which I did but I did not sign my name. I am elderly and do not see that well. When I returned to get my lunch meat the man behind the counter told me I didn't pass the test because I had not signed the paper. Although there was no one else there he just ignored me and started cleaning the cutting machines. Finally I just walked away. read more

However, serious problems with cleanliness, organization, and internal infrastructure have been long-term and not remedied.
