Horrible experience at the Ballantyne location. Dirty, unprofessional, and did not give me my change after paying in cash! Only one cent, but still! One employee at the front desk came in dressed unprofessionally. The stylist, Daria, was also clearly unhappy or having a bad day. She could not even give my daughter a very simple cut with layers in the front. As I was sitting there, I noticed old hair everywhere and dirty tools in the holders. They don't even have a shampoo bowl! A spray bottle was used and my daughter's hair smelled horrible afterwards. More than disappointed. Will never return or recommend. I did not see any sanitation grades from NC Board of Cosmetic Art examiners, but I cannot believe they are still in operation. read more

Not sure how they are staying open.. Had an appointment Sunday 6/23, they called asking to change to Monday as they didn't have anyone to be in the store Sunday. Appointment was changed to Monday 6/24 at 4pm. We showed up at 3:50 on Monday and the store was closed, lights of and door locked. We had called Monday AM to confirm the appt as well. She made a point to give dad bubbles(to entertain toddler) , let me hold on to him and work around me all while cutting his hair and him moving! I had an absolutely horrible experience yesterday at Pigtails and Crewcuts on Rea. My 2 year old had an appt at 4:45 with Amber. At 5:10 we were still waiting and I had to change my son's diaper. Amber never spoke to me or said anything to assure me that she would be with us to cut my son's hair. It was taking so long that I even checked with the front desk to ensure we were still in line to get his hair cut. I went ahead and changed my son's diaper and when I came back out, Amber had started cutting the hair of someone else who had come in at least 15 minutes after me and my son. I ask the front desk what happened and she couldn't explain it, went to ask Amber who never turned her head towards me or even acknowledged that after I'd waited with a two year old for over half an hour that she skipped me and started cutting someone else's hair. I was appalled at being treated so poorly and will never go back. This place is also right beside my son's daycare so I will definitely let others know how I was treated, particularly at how Amber treated me and my son. read more

I've brought my kids here several times and it's been great. Today I took 2 of my kids to get hair cuts, girl and boy. My son who is six was complaining a lot because hair was all over him. I understand he's getting a haircut and he's eventually going to get hair on him but the cover was only cove his shoulders. Nothing else. She didn't cover him properly so hair was literally all over his shorts, shirt, legs and his arms and she wasn't doing anything about it until I got up and said to get a bigger cover for him. I drive 40 minutes there for the experience, he loves playing with the toys watching TVs while they're cutting his hair and the little cars that they sit in. The minute he went out that door he said he doesn't want to go back. For the price I paid I would expect a good hair cut and pleasant experience Last time I take my kids. read more

Terrible experience for the first cut of my daughter! I called before to prepare for the cut and nobody told me that her hair should have been detangled, so they charged me for that. Fine. I'll start by saying that the stylists do a great job. They are wonderful at putting my kids at ease (as much as possible) and giving a good haircut to a squirming child. However, I can only give 3 stars because they are NEVER running on time. I always arrive on time and have to wait (not fun with toddlers), and have even had to reschedule because they were an hour behind. I always book my two kids' cuts at the same time so we can get in and out as quickly as possible, and every time they end up going one after the other because stylists aren't ready. This is extremely difficult because it puts me in the situation of trying to chase after a toddler that wants to touch everything etc while trying to console my other, scared, toddler getting their hair cut. I'd like to say I'll be back, but I can't keep dealing with the wait. read more

We booked an appointment and we're a little over 5 mins late(no more than 10 mins) to add to that we had to wait on line and they cancelled on us because of the 5 minute grace period. I could see 10-15 minute grace period but they literally were like no you missed it sorry. Didn't care about our business at all. I will never be going back. read more

If I could rate this place a 0 I would. We had two appointments booked weeks in advance. I was sent a text the morning of the appointments that they cancelled one of our appointments due to a stylist calling out. So we had one appointment instead of two and they didn't try accommodating us in anyway for that. We finally make it in for the 1 appointment we had left, and due to traffic we arrived a little over 5 mins late. We called 3 times and left a voicemail to let them know, and their phone kept going to voicemail. As we walked in I was told they canceled our appointment because they only give a 5 minute grace period. Even though we called to tell them AND we were within our appointment timeframe still. They took the next customer and told us there was nothing they could or would do. We will NEVER return to an establishment that runs like this. Absolutely horrible customer service! read more

It's so nice to come to a place that knows what they are doing with haircuts for kids. They have TVs and cars for the kids to sit in and go the extra mile to make sure every child has the best experience possible. We took our soon for his first haircut today and even though he was a little apprehensive, they played with him and blew bubbles to make it fun. We will definitely be back. I got same lady who cut my daughters hair twice and twice I showed her picture how I wanted her hair to be cut, both times she messed up. This time really really bad, one side is longer then other I wanted a bob with a front longer I told her 5 times and she till chopped it off. I hate when you show them picture and they say oh yes I can do it NO YOU CANT just let someone else do it, don't be greedy. My daughters haircut looks horrible. I am so regretting taking her here. The place itself is great. They have a play room while you wait, fun kids chairs and a movie on to keep them still in their chair. My problem with this place is every time we find someone who is good at cutting hair... they leave. Almost every time we try someone new, they give my son a TERRIBLE hair cut. This is the third time now we have walked out of here with a really bad cut. It's not my son moving around either. Movies zonk him out. He just sits there and stares at the tv. I've learned from the other hairdressers mistakes and clearly communicated what not to do and she went ahead and did it anyways. I'm done here. read more

We paid a fortune for a shampoo and a cut. And the cut was not even a good cut and had to be fixed elsewhere. Then they wouldn't allow a coupon that was two days expired. When I discussed this with management (who contacted me after I filled out a survey) I found out the receptionist fibbed about misreading the date on the coupon. (Not true since I asked about only being two days expired). The management asked if they could send another coupon and would I please come back so I have them my address. The coupon came last week. It was for $2. Ha ha. That is less than 10% of the total cost of a cut. Why would I make the effort to "try again" for that? No thank you. BYW my daughter has very straight blond hair. The girl chased it an extra 2 inches up her neck in an attempt to make it even. Overall terrible cut and then bad customer service to boot. read more

I took my 5 year old daughter here this past week after work. Just so you know, Tuesday's and Saturdays are the busiest days since they do a rewards program and offer double stamps. I walked in and the receptionist was honest about a 15 minute wait, and there were tons of people there. Always a good sign right? After our wait my daughter was welcomed by the lady who was going to trim her hair to sit in the race car chair which she helped her climb into. She asked me what I wanted done and followed my (or what my wife told me) wishes to a tee. It was a great experience and I perceived it as better than going to a Great Clips or something. It was a bit pricey ($18.00 + tip) for a kids cut IMO but hey what isn't expensive for kids these days? I checked in on the YELP App and got $1.00 off my cut so be sure to take advantage of that. read more

Went to this place as the reviews looked great. I had to admit I was so upset after going. The lady we had did such a horrible job. So much so that my husband and I had to ask her to fix areas that were obviously longer than the other. After us guiding her his hair is still lopsided. And then she hands us a baby wipe to clean off all the hair all over my son's face and neck. I would not recommend this place at all! So upset with how my sons hair looks. read more

My son loves getting his haircut here and the cuts have been OK however the last one was too short on one side. We have yet to get the same stylist and we have been three times, seems to be a revolving line of stylists there. Waiting room with couches, movie playing and a train table. Pick a seat in an airplane or in a salon chair. Prize bin for the kids to pick from while you're checking out. I called this past Monday at 12:30 PM and was told that I can either walk in or make an appointment. I inquired about getting my daughters ears pierced after reading a review. I was also told that as long as she is 6 months old and up to date on her immunizations we're good. My daughter is 9 months so she's good. I made this late enough to avoid any mishaps as my lo had a swim class from 11-11:30 AM the same day. So I figured 1 PM on Saturday would be enough time to wash and dress my baby after swim class and drive over there. I arrive and it's a small spot but friendly and efficient. We waited only about 10 minutes. Before that we were told to choose the earrings (from a great selection) as well as a back up pair just in case they didn't have my first choice. Once they were ready for us and there were two stylists available, we were led to a small area in the back where I held my lo on my lap. My dude had to hold her head just in case but they marked her ears first and one of the stylists said she marked it the way she did so there would still be room for her to get other piercings in the future if she wants. I appreciated that. It was even. She let me check. They both pierced her ears really fast. It was over in .5 milliseconds literally. My baby cried for like 10 seconds if that but she was good. Like it never happened. They told me this was a great age to get it done (as i figured) because babies tend to forget pain faster than older kids and they don't fuss as much. They gave us some solution for her ears and told us what to do each day for 3 months for her holes and that we can change out her earrings after 6 months. While I was waiting I was able to view how the stylists were with the kids getting their hair cut and styled and they were awesome. Really patient with the fussy/crying kids and really nice. I'm not surprised but I'm impressed. I'd go back if my next one is a boy and he needs a cut. Who am I kidding... My husband will cut his hair. But if we didn't have that option we'd definitely use this place. read more

The Rea Road location used to be a fun place for the kids haircuts. Unfortunately the last two visits have been awful. Less than satisfactory haircuts were only the icing on the cake. The staff has descended into petty bickering, melodrama and screaming at each other in front of customers and kids. In one incident, the woman at the register refused to check out a customer. She yelled at the "stylist" that cut the kid's hair, the "stylist" screamed back at her and the two of them had a drawn out argument over who should check out the customer. This continued for several minutes all while new customers were coming in. One mother walked in, took one look at the circus and took her two kids and left. I don't blame her. Hopefully the other locations are better. This one seems to be having a difficult time finding and keeping good people. read more

Let me first say that everyone there was super nice! Very friendly and did a great job on my daughters haircut. It has a nice play waitIng areea for the kids and my daughter got to her her haircut in the cool fire truck! I am leaving 3 stars because it was my daughters first haircut so I was really looking forward to the "first haircut" package with the photo box and hair clip. After they informed me that their printer was out of ink for the photo, one Lady said they would still take the photo and mail me the box, the actual hair dresser came back to say, "here is the little pouch to put the hair in but you will have to take your own photo and get it printed yourself because they can't figure out what is going on over there and I just cut hair." I said ok because everyone was so nice but it was rather upsetting because this was a milestone for us and I picked this pLace out of recommendations because of the atmosphere as well as the first haircut package that we didn't get.... but thank you for cutting my daughters hair so nice! read more
