But one fine day after strolling past Lloyd's Barbershop, I decided to change things up. With nothing more than $25 burning a hole in my pocket ($20 for the cut and $5 for the tip pending the poise and performance of my barber-to-be), I took a seat in the back and was whisked away to a well-groomed oasis of musky scented pomade (in a good way) and straight-razors to the back of the neck (in the best way). Lloyd himself impressed and astounded an audience of no one (the place had had a temporary lull in business at the time of my hair surgery) with push-up after push-up while a regular customer sitting on a bench mumbled to himself about knock-off Gucci bags. All of this added to the fun of the experience. Mr. Hanley (the curious nickname of the man who barbered me) was a foul-mouthed teddy bear (like Ted, but charming instead of annoying). You'd think that Hanley had been born with shears for hands the way he snipped at my locks with glitz and grace. I'll let you decide whether or not I gave him that $5 tip (I did). As much as I would love (God, I would love nothing more) to give Lloyd's a 5 star rating for the above-and-beyond performance of Mr. Hanley (my hair has seriously never looked better), sadly I have to mark it down to a 4/5 for the sh*tty techno music blaring from the tv in the front that still to this day (a week after visiting Lloyd's) gives me nightmares.
