I had never done Pilates before in my life, and not a big fan of yoga. Then my daughter started in Gentle Pilates, since she is slightly disabled it takes her more time to get up to speed with things. They are very patient with her. She likes the instructors and I appreciate them as they let me know how she is doing or if the have any questions about her well being since wasn't improving much they suggested a physical therapist. I was so intrigued with the exercises so I finally joined, and I love it. Feeling like a evangelist, everyone should be doing it. I am finally starting Reformer 1 and feel the excitement of finally starting to accomplish some more difficult moves for me. I have a long way to go, but I am in the right spot to grow and not get hurt by over doing it. read more

Years ago I tried pilates for the first time at a hip trendy millennial studio, where the clients had bodies of that like the covers of Sports Illustrated magazines and where the instructors used hardcore autocratic methods. They pushed you like you were training for the olympics and chastised you for not doing the movement correctly! I vowed never to step into another pilates studio again! ... Well, that is ... until I accidentally stumbled across Azalea's Pilates Studio! While at the lights at Artesia & Inglewood, I saw the big sign for Azalea's Pilates. Some force of energy was telling me to go and check it out. And boy, I am so happy I did! There are only x3 reformers, this is to ensure each client gets the individual attention a person needs in a class. Azalea teaches with absolute precision and care. Her voice is soothing and nurturing. If you make a mistake, she gently corrects you so that you do not feel intimated or overwhelmed. Azalea is very aware of your bodies idiosyncrasies. I was totally blown away when she mentioned my anterior pelvic tilt to the right! No yoga teacher, no gym trainer, no kickboxing instructor cared or ever noticed I have this challenge in my body! I have had x3 classes with Azalea and I feel energetic and grounded! I took two classes with Jennie and I can say they both didn't live up to these 5 star reviews. First off, there is a powerful mildew odor when you first walk in. I know this isn't an easy thing to fix, but it's so strong that I couldn't take big breaths. There is also a constant swarm of files in the entrance. Jennie lacks Pilates vocabulary and didn't make one correction for both classes. She doesn't seem happy to be teaching and looks bored. There were multiple times where the springs were visibly too heavy for me and there was no help modifying. Perhaps it would have been a different experience with another teacher, but there should be some correcting and modifying so everyone can safely enjoy. *Btw they have deleted my review and I am now posting it again read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about this studio. I have been going to classes multiple times a week since August, ok fine there may have been a month break from mid-November to late December, but I love it. I look forward to my classes and seeing the instructors (Azalea, Jennie, or Lindsay) and the ladies in the class. It's like a little Pilates family. Reformer classes are never more than five people, and I'd say the average is three. It's like semi-private training pretty much. They take the time to get to know you, and what you need, modifications are always available to make moves more comfortable or more challenging based on your level. Each instructor has a different style and rhythm, and I recommend taking at least one class from each. If you are looking for a new pilates studio or if you are new to pilates and looking for a studio - definitely check our Pilates by Azalea, you won't be disappointed. read more

If you have read any of my other reviews then you will know that I practiced at a different studio and that she closed down with no notice leaving me trying to find a new studio. Well I have found a great one!! Azalea is the best. She is really nice and she will explain the movements and what your body should be doing. I have an injury so she will make modifications so I can do the movement. It is also reasonably prices with a wide variety of classes. I have started off with the Gentle Pilates and plan to work my way back to the Reformer 1 and 2 classes. read more

I did some research on pilates studios in my area after trying an intro pilates reformer class at my gym that I was not impressed with. I was told I was unable to start classes at my gym until I had taken eight private sessions which seemed a bit extreme to me, not to mention expensive! After a quick search I checked out Pilates by Azalea and it seemed like a great fit for me. I took a class last night and LOVED it! Azalea has five reformers now rather than three, but she still is able to give a lot of attention to each student. She was very helpful in adjusting body positions etc to make sure we were doing the exercises correctly. With her attentive instruction I felt the class was easy to follow and today I am sore in all the right places! My friend took the class with me as well, she has taken several reformer classes at other studios and she loved it as well. I felt very comfortable and at ease being a complete beginner to the reformer and appreciated the gentle correction techniques from Azalea. I plan to sign up for the monthly membership after just one class. Thanks Azalea for a wonderful experience! An update, I have been a regular since my first review and I cannot say enough GREAT things about this studio, I almost don't want to because I love it so much! I love all the instructors and have taken a variety of classes now. I go several times a week and my body has really transformed. This studio is amazing and the membership prices are very reasonable. Azalea and the other instructors are all so very kind and knowledgeable. After years of being away from any form of exercise, I wanted to start Pilates but was feeling a bit insecure about my lack of flexibility and muscle strength. And based on my past experiences, some studios can be pretentious and snobby, but, this studio is not one of them. I'm so glad I paid the $10 (discounted rate) to try the first class, and I highly recommend it to my friends. Also, when I first started, I was concerned because all the classes I wanted were full. However, a lot of those people will cancel as the class time approaches, so always put your self on the waitlist. I've always gotten into the classes that I have been waitlisted for. read more

Amazing pilates studios, prices are reasonable compared to other studios around and they treat you like family. The instructors will take time to get to know you, modify the exercises according to your injuries and. More than that they'll make it fun! Okay so I will start by stating that leaving this review has me torn. Azalea absolutely deserves a 5 star review, but I almost want to keep the gem of a studio a secret because, well, I'm selfish! I know that's not fair, so here it is. This studio is easily accessible and has parking. The classes are small (3 reformers), which is awesome because it's almost like getting a semi private. Azalea is super sweet, down to earth, and really knowledgeable. She pays attention to your posture, and helps you get the most out of Pilates while honoring any injuries or pain, and offers modifications specific to you. The studio is really cute, clean, and intimate. The prices are AMAZING for Pilates. You know if you have taken classes elsewhere that it's just not a cheap workout, but in my opinion it's worth every penny, and it's obvious that Azalea loves it and wants to make it more affordable for the masses. How nice is that ;) I have also taken a arms, abs and booty, class with Tulani, who is equally sweet, down to earth, and just fun to work out with. So there it is Yelpers! Azalea has been my Pilates instructor for the past 3 years. Having practiced Pilates for 8 years prior I found Azalea to be the instructor that has made the difference for me. She is knowledgeable about body anatomy and works with your body type and whatever limitations you might have. And it's always fun! Azalea's classes are simply AMAZING. I am a professional dancer who also enjoys yoga and running. I recently joined Pilates by Azalea to work on strength training and rehabilitation for preexisting injuries. Being a dancer herself, Azalea is extremely knowledgable about alignment and anatomy. She's been tremendous in terms of modifying exercises based on my injuries and weaknesses. My body has transformed in a matter of weeks. I have been taking Pilates for over 10 yrs, although there some some excellent instructors out there for me the very best instructors either are ex-dancers or ex-athletes. They understand the body well and what the body can do and not do. Azalea is an ex-dancer and is well educated in physical therapy. In any of her classes she is well aware of what her clients bodies can and can not do and makes adjustments accordingly no matter what level you are at. If you come in with an injury she will get you back on track safely in no time. She is always willing to do what is best for her clients so they reach their ultimate goal with no injuries.
