My entire living room ceiling collapsed and since the house was built in the 70's, before I had…read moreanyone come in to clean it up, I needed to know if it contained asbestos. One contractor said they could run the test but it would take 3-4 days and cost $500-600. What?! I looked up DIY test kits. Those seem to take weeks and are somewhat unreliable. So I checked for abatement companies and Hawaii Analytical Laboratory popped up in the search. While not an abatement company, they ARE a local, accredited lab that does same-day asbestos testing (among many others) for a very reasonable price. Luckily they were open during the pandemic lockdown and were so very helpful. They explained their prices and what kind of samples to grab. They also suggested putting up plastic sheeting to minimize any disturbance of the area. So I donned my asbestos haz mat mask (yes, I actually have one of those), put my samples in ziploc bags and headed to the lab. The building was unsurprisingly deserted. I expected a tumbleweed to blow by as the theme from "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" played in the background. The woman I spoke to on the phone met me at the door. She carefully and patiently explained the entire process to me and she helped me consolidate my mess of ziploc bags into nice, cohesive samples. She explained the options based on how soon I needed the test results. The 1-2 hour being the most expensive and 4-6 hours being the next. I opted for the1-2 hour response so I'd still have some fingernails left, plus an abatement contractor was headed over shortly. And about 1.5 hours later, I got the (unfortunately bad) news. If I hadn't found them, I would have been waiting for days and paid $600. Instead, I had a nearly immediate result for a very small fraction of the cost. And it is a woman-owned company in what I would guess is a male-dominated field. How cool is that? So thank you Hawaii Analytical Laboratory! Service above and beyond!

This past December and January, I had MPM come out to treat drywood and subterranean termites at my property. They were very quick to respond when they were getting their money, got the jobs scheduled and did it. That part was fine. I was even told I was covered for 5 years for a retreatment if any termite activity was found! Afterwards, we started renovating the property and nearly everyday my contractors were telling me they were were still finding termite frass and active termite activity. I reached out to Menehune and asked them to honor the terms lf their warranty (why would I even lie to them about this?) They said the owner had to come see it for his own eyes before he would honor the warranty. Its now been nearly 4 weeks, I've called multiple times and sent multiple emails. Owner has never came. Ive emailed them picturee, no tesponse. They obviously have no intention of honoring their warranty. I would recommend any other company, I feel duped and lied too and now have to pay for a retreatment within 4 months of having my house treated extensively by this company under the promise they'd retreat it if this exact situation occurred. AVOID.

He also went above and beyond by spraying proactively for roaches, ants, and spiders, and even mentioned it could help with the millipedes that have apparently decided my home is their vacation destination. What really stood out was that everything he used, spray, bait, and powder, was eco friendly and pet friendly, so no stressing about safety while still getting the job done. He also made sure we actually understood what to do after he left. He went over the instructions multiple times, emphasizing that everything needed at least 45 to 60 minutes to dry. Clear, patient, and thorough, basically the opposite of every confusing instruction manual ever written. Also, shoutout to the woman who scheduled the appointment, I am so sorry I forgot your name. She was amazing, super knowledgeable, clearly experienced, and mentioned she has been doing this for years and has been on the islands for something like 47 years. You can tell when someone knows their stuff and she definitely does. Regarding the cost, there was a small difference from the original quote. I was initially quoted 180 dollars before taxes with the note that paying cash would cover the taxes. In the end, I was charged 165 dollars, which was actually lower than expected. I appreciated the transparency during the visit and the final price worked out well. Overall, highly recommend. Huge thanks to Eco Smart for sending such an awesome team. If all service experiences were like this, I would actually look forward to having bugs. Okay that is a lie but you get it.

After searching for "move out cleaning", Yelp had an assessment form for me to fill out in a bit more detail. Being able to put how many bedrooms, bathrooms, and the actual square footage of the space in question was helpful so that an accurate quote could be given by potential businesses. Asking questions such as if there's carpet to be cleaned, or indicating the type of flooring, was handy to the over all price quote. I got several automated responses from Big Box accounts pretty quickly. Standing out, KR Services, a locally owned and operated business reached out to my inquiry and gave a straight forward quote based on the size of the space, bed and bathroom count. Carpet had an additional cost, which was very, very suitable given how much carpet there was. After several exchanges of messages, I spoke to KR, who confirmed availability for the date I needed. Conveniently, I didn't even need to be on island when the cleaning service actually happened. KR service accepts multiple forms of payment and I had a dear friend drop by to facilitate the rest of the transaction. Report back from the aforementioned friend was nothing short of an accolade, confirming the job had been done & done well. KR Services relieved so much pressure and stress of a big move.
