It will be almost a year since we purchased our first place and removed the popcorn ceiling with Aina Environmental Group. Our living room ceiling collapsed at the very beginning of the pandemic lock-down. Talk about timing. We had the ceiling tested and unfortunately, it came back positive for asbestos since the house was built in the 70s. I called Aina, hoping that they were still working during this period and thankfully, they were. Austin was out the next day, took a look around and gave me an estimate to clean up and haul away everything. The estimate was very reasonable. I also asked him to estimate re-screwing in all the rest of the ceiling just in case. Having your ceiling come crashing down at 3 am makes you a little paranoid. And because the collapse was sudden, all our furniture, virtually everything in the living room had to be dug out from under the rubble and had to be cleaned and wrapped. That is a lot of work because honestly, we had a lot of junk lying around. On top of that, we had recessed lights, pendant fixtures and a whole house fan that they had to deal with. It took a little over 1 week for all the work to be done including the independent air quality inspections. It was quick and relatively painless considering we were working from home while this was being done. They did a great job and the crew was really helpful, friendly and neat. House was left clean and there were only a few areas of minor scraped paint on the wall, which was completely expected considering the amount of destruction that had to be done in the rooms. I have contacted about 5 different asbestos removal companies for their price quotes and determined that A.E.G. was by far the cheapest. I was skeptical at first because my friend had their popcorn ceiling removed by another company, but he said that their ceiling had lots of damages in the result of the removal. I had the popcorn ceiling of my 1900 square foot apartment removed and resurfaced by Aina Environmental in the fall of 2019. I've waited one year to write this review because I wanted to see how their work would hold up. I'm pleased to report that their work has stood the test of time! Everyone at this company was a joy to work with. Jazmin Amano coordinated the work, which was handled very efficiently, neatly, and on time. The workers contained the work area with thick plastic sheets to isolate any contaminated material. After testing the air, cleanup was fast and thorough. Because my original ceiling was installed in the 1960's part of it was collapsing. Mr. Oh, who supervised the resurfacing suggested reinforcing it before applying tape and several layers of compound material to smooth the surface. Then they painted it. In the middle of my well planned and organized condo renovation, I discovered tiny bits and pieces of the popcorn ceiling falling onto my floor from above. I was hoping the popcorn ceiling did not contain asbestos so I could just have it sealed vs. removed. Regardless, it needed to be checked out before proceeding with rest of the renovation. I think she felt my "pain" having to delay all my contractors, who were lined up and ready to go. She somehow magically got everything coordinated quickly so I could avoid further delays with my renovation. First stage: Their technician, Aaron was scheduled and sent the next day to removed 3 areas of popcorn ceiling samples for testing. Super nice guy that knew his business. He took the time to explain and answer all of my questions. In a few days after the samples were sent to a lab in Seattle, the results came back positive! Decision time. Seal or remove the popcorn ceiling. Pricing to remove? Very reasonable so I decided to have the asbestos removed. Second stage: Two technicians, Keone & David came to remove the popcorn. Took their job serious in dealing with a serious issue removing asbestos. They gave lots of assurances not to worry about the spread of the asbestos fibers and explained in detail how they plan to prep the condo. So far so good, experiencing more consistent super nice guys representing the company and very professional. Last stage was to resurface, prime and paint the ceiling. This team was Mr. O and his assistant, Robert. I was super concerned prior to the start of the resurfacing phase and was hoping for at least good results after learning that this process is so complicated to achieving a decent, smooth surface texture, which is what I had requested. Mr. O and Robert took the painstaking steps to insure their quality of work from start to finish. Their attention to detail in the prep stage was super important to them. Mr. O is was meticulous and passionate with every step. It's naturally a messy process for this type of job but the end result was like a master piece in the ceiling! I highly recommend this company. Their office is very responsive and the quote is reasonable. I worked with Jay. His team came and did an excellent job removing the asbestos from our ceiling. They only took four days for our 800sqft condo. There was an incident where the abatement caused a water leakage that damaged the walls in the unit below ours. Jay's crew were on top of it. I obtained 3 bids to remove the popcorn ceiling from our condo. Aina was the only contractor that could re-surface the ceiling and paint the entire unit after the popcorn was removed. Jay was one of the most professional contractors I have ever dealt with, calling and communicating every step of the way. He was extremely flexible and patient, as some carpentry work had to be done mid-way the painting. His attention to detail is appreciated by an anal person like me. On one visit, Jay even noticed that my daughter was hiccupping continuously and gave her a tip on how to stop. (Okay, this has nothing to do with the ceiling, but that told me he cared.) This company is extreamly unprofessional, non- communicative, and expensive. You're better off spending your money elsewhere. They overcharged us to scrape our ceilings and failed to inform us that their workers did $300 worth of damages to our walls. After Aina Environmental left, our condo had 16 different spots on our walls where paint had been peeled off. They didn't even have the common courtesy to inform us of this additional damage and to date, they're refusing to fix it. read more

We contracted Aina Environmental to abate asbestos-laden popcorn ceiling throughout the house, remove some hanging kitchen cabinets, "demo" a wall, and afterwards, patch, skim, and repaint the raw drywall ceiling. We reached out to multiple companies but Aina Environmental was the only one that responded. We were juggling a number of things for the renovation work, so couldn't have them come for a while. But once we had the time to get it done, Aina was ready to go. The crew arrived early and started right on time. We were warned that it could take a couple of days. As it turns out, they had the 13' x 20' room sealed off by 11 am, and all the asbestos removed in an hour. It was another two hours to get the air tested, and the report back from the testing agency. Once the "all clear" was given, it took very little time for the crew to clean out everything else. We could get back into the house around 3 pm. It probably helped to have the room totally emptied prior to the crew's arrival. And we had them park right in front of the house to make it easy to unload their equipment and materials. Once everything was loaded back into the van, the crew lead walked me through the room to point out some of issues regarding a small amount of inevitable damage to the drywall panels and joints. I assured them it wouldn't be a problem as that portion of the house was going to be renovated, and we'd have to cut through the panels to tie-in a stud wall anyway. It's not a cheap process. But getting the job done professionally, and having the room tested for any remaining traces of asbestos, are well worth the peace of mind. read more

In the course of abatement at our home, AEG's workers created major ceiling and drywall damage (big, gaping holes). They were about to leave without saying anything when I asked them to walk me thru the house -- at which point I saw the damage. I had a back-and-forth with the head of the company, who at one point was yelling at me! The guy he sent out to do repairs tried to repair drywall without the proper nails, etc. Suffice to say we had a very bad experience with this company. read more

They charged way too much and left my condo damaged in multiple areas throughout the condo without letting me know about it. Aina Environmental was called in to our building because a new owner hired an unlicensed contractor who removed the popcorn ceiling and spread the flakes & powder all over our hallway, near the elevator, exposing us to Asbestos. As affected neighbors, we requested that our units be given an Air Quality Test to ensure that we had no lingering asbestos in our apartments.
