I recently visited Pilsen Yards to celebrate a birthday. I was NOT disappointed. This was my second visit and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. My sister and I parked on the street near the restaurant. Upon arrival, we were seated near the back inside but by the patio. The restaurant has beautiful art and is very open and spacious. It was kind of loud and dimly lit, a vibe. The food!!!!!! First we started with chips with guacamole and salsa. We both tried the Heat of Passion cocktail. It was perfectly sweetened and refreshing. We both loved it. We had the Shrimp Ceviche, Piña Colada Tuna Ceviche, Fish tacos, Shrimp taco, and Beef Barbacoa taco. We weren't fans of the shrimp taco as the chipotle spices were overpowering. The staff was very friendly and immediately replaced the shrimp taco with another one we preferred. Also, I wish I would've read thoroughly about the coconut in the tuna ceviche, it was too sweet for my liking. Otherwise, the food was AMAZING and we will definitely be back. read more

Rating: 8/10 I've been here several times and recently tried the burger--and I have to say, I've overlooked this. I typically go for the nachos, tacos, or ceviche, all of which are great and consistently solid. But the burger was a standout surprise. I actively seek out great burgers in the city--places like Red Hot Ranch, Au Cheval, and Mott Street--and this one can absolutely compete. It was well-seasoned, served on a perfectly crusty, buttery bun, and topped just right. Simply put: it was dang good. While the price point is slightly high, it's in line with the current norm ($15-$20 for a restaurant burger). This one has officially earned a spot in my top 10 burgers in Chicago. Drinks here are are always consistently excellent--well-balanced, fairly priced, and even the draft cocktails are impressive. Happy hour deals are great, especially the Thursday burger, beer, and shot special--definitely worth coming back for. The ambiance is another strong point: well designed, comfortable, with a great patio and an overall inviting vibe. I've been coming here for years and, like many spots, they had a tough run during and after COVID. I'm thrilled to see they're back on track--arguably better than ever. Kudos to the team! 4.25 Stars - TL;DR I very much enjoyed everything about Pilsen Yards. Friendly staff & overall positive vibes. The place is massive and their patio was ideal for day drinking and filling up our bellies with some modernized takes on Mexican food. Rating might go higher when I've had a chance to try more of the menu. Easy to recommend! Heard from ourfriends that they had a great time here so we stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. The host was very friendly and greeted us with a great big smile, we felt welcomed. We didn't have a reservation but the place is massive so we got seated on their patio without any wait, however I can def see this place filling up during peak hours so better to book. We made it during their half priced happy hour for cocktails on tap (which was a great deal) and we ordered a few smaller plates. Cocktails: Pisco punch - Absolutely fantastic & refreshing cocktail, perfectly balanced with a very interesting and addictive flavor combo. I'm not sure if it's the chica morada that adds the warm spices (cinnamon, nutmeg...) but they play off the rum and pisco just right. Paloma - A fun and clever twist on a classic paloma with the Luxardo & Tajin rim. The stronger of the two cocktails so if you want to sip then order this one, if you wanna chug get the punch Food: Pina Colada Ceviche - A very clever way to use pina colada since you end up with something that looks like leche de Tigre but tastes totally different (still just as delicious) The tuna was fresh and very generous and the avocado was ripe and creamy. My only gripe was that it was just a bit too sweet for my liking and the jalapeño peppers weren't hot enough to cut thru that sweetness and the richness of the fat. A touch less sweet and a touch more heat and you've got a winner. My advice is to supplement it with a bit of that amazing habanero salsa they have (more on that later ;) Yard Salad - Great textures and flavors with very generous amount of chicken. Small heads up, the chicken is served cold (unexpected but didn't really bother me) but if that's something you're not a fan of it's worth noting. A great option if you're looking for something to make you feel less guilty after eating tacos made of cheese (see next item :P ) Queso al Pastor - The photo pretty much tells you everything you gotta know. Salty, savory, fatty, smokey and a bit complicated to eat (but you'll enjoy the challenge). They come with lime wedges so there's def thought put into the salt/fat/acid balance, the only addition I might advise is a bit of heat from their habanero salsa, just enough to get those tastebuds firing but not enough to kill the flavors. Dessert: Crepas de cajeta - DAMN just damn. Crepes wrapped around sticky sweet fried plantains in a caramel sauce (might've been dulce de leche) topped with whipped cream and pecans. Of course parking is hard with all of the restaurants nearby. But service was good, cocktails were on the sweet side but I did enjoy the Party Donkey cocktail. Chips and salsa were on point, piña colada ceviche was delicious (but on the sweet side which I didn't have a problem with). We also ordered the shishito pepper app and flautas. Both were tasty but a bit salty for my taste. I didn't get to sit on the patio because it was a cold evening but my friend said it's nice in the daytime - if returning on a warmer day or evening I'd definitely want to check it out. Love Pilsen Yards! I've been here a couple times, and they have yet to disappoint! One of my good friends had her dinner rehearsal here in the back, and it seemed like the perfect place to host an event! We usually always get a margarita pitcher that is so good it ends up going down faster than anticipated. I've also had the Fire Roasted Shisito Peppers, the Nachos, the Queso Al Pastor Taco, Barbacoa Taco, Fish Tacos, and both the desserts, Crepas de Cajeta and Drunken Tres Leches. When I say I love everything here.. I love everryytthiingg! The food, the ambiance, the service, the back patio, the abundance of space... everything is spot on here. Even the location in the heart of Pilsen, if you wanted to continue your night you can head to a number of bars that are just down the street. I will say the Queso Al Pastor taco was a little greasy for my liking (it's a melted cheese shell instead of a tortilla), but that's to be expected with a fried cheese shell lol. Came to Pilsen Yards on a whim. My friend and I were in the area for a concert happening at Thalia Hall, which is a 3 min walk from Pilsen Yards. Every restaurant in the area was booked, sold out of food, or had a ridiculous wait time. My friend and I were just looking for some great food and drinks and came across Pilsen Yards. The staff was more than accommodating. Even though they had a busy place on a Saturday evening, they helped us secure a really nice table on the patio. The patio tables also have their own personal heaters which was a life saver on a chilly 50° night! The server was great and friendly, and our food came out so quick which helped my friend and I be on time for our concert. If you can live with the LOUD ambiance, the drinks are good (except all the ice in my $11 mule gave me but a few sips!) My wife's Negroni was top knotch! The cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and shrimp seviche were all tasty and the fish taco was first rate! Our server never hovered, but was there when we needed him. The staff is very friendly, and the food is served within minutes of ordering. I decided to give Pilsen Yards a second chance. I knew this place had potential and was disappointed with their menu changes on my initial visit. But they've added a few new things to their menu and have kept them on there. Their service also improved as well. My wife ordered their Huevos Rancheros. It came with a tostada topped with black beans, queso fresco, avocado, salsa ranchera, crema and two eggs. This dish was really good, but it was difficult to cut through the tostada because of it being in a bowl. The salsa ranchera did however make this dish stand out. I ordered the chilaquiles. It was served with tomatillo salsa, queso fresco, crema and two eggs. These were just as tasty as the Huevos rancheros. If I could change one thing, it would be adding some avocados. You get the crispness out of the tortillas, a little heat from the tomatillo salsa, it was just missing the softness and butteriness from the avocados. Overall a really solid dish. Awesome spot in Pilsen worth checking out! I would def come back in the summertime because they have a patio in the back that's heated during the winter. Me and my friends sat in the patio and it was pretty comfortable. Their menu offers small plates, tacos, and big plates. Me and my girlfriends shared some small plates then had some tacos. We all ordered the Heat of Passion to drink and it was bomb! Sweet corn tamales: I love a good tamale. These were really good and are perfect for people who cannot tolerate spicy food. I love Pilsen Yards! The restaurant is huge, including a massive outdoor patio and bar, some of which is even covered in case it rains. This is probably one of the best patios in Chicago. There is beautiful art on the walls, string lights hanging, and plants. Even their plates are cute and colorful! At the bottom of their menu, I saw that on the first Wednesday of the month, they offer a 25% discount off your bill if you live or work in Pilsen. I love that! We ordered a pitcher of margaritas for the table, which is 25% off on Wednesdays (great deal). I tried the coliflor and the fire roasted shistos, both were very tasty vegetarian appetizers. The coliflor was spicy and delicious, highly recommend. For dinner, I got one sweet potato taco and one fish taco. They were both really good! The batter on the fish was so light and crispy. The sweet potato taco was really good but it was smaller, so if you're only ordering that you might need more than 2 tacos. The food came out SO fast which was great because I was starving. I've been a few times, and while the location is fantastic and the space is beautiful, I left quite disappointed on my last visit which has soured me from Pilsen Yards. We came in towards the end of their night (they close early for bars in pilsen!) and I ordered their signature margarita. The only worse margarita I've ever had was a $1 margarita at Applebees. It truly was just an awful sour mix with some tequila thrown in. I don't mean to be dramatic, but for how bad that one margarita was, it's kind of ruined Pilsen Yards in general for me, and when I'm in Pilsen, there's a ton of other bars nearby that are just as good if not better. read more

Came here tonight to celebrate a very dear friend of mine belated birthday. I order the shishito pepper dish without queso and a mocktail. The mocktail was called cucumber in Spanish - and that it was mixed with lime and carbonated water. I loved it. It was filling and super fresh. I would definitely make that at home. When my friend arrived, she placed an order for the queso fundido without chorizo, shrimp ceviche and a drink called Heat of Passion. I also ordered one fish taco and the drunken tres leches. The food: very tasty; it came out just as quick as we ordered! We love quick service. Lol but the seasoning was there. You didn't miss any flavors or seasonings. They made sure of that. I loved their fish taco because they didn't skimp on the fish. They gave a full mini fillet fried to perfection. The batter wasn't thick or gamy either. They did their thing I'll say that. The service: A-1. Hands down. Every single person no matter what their job title was did their job and someone else. I didn't have to ask or wave down anyone. Bows that's what I call customer service. The experience/ ambiance: massive spacing. Outdoors? Wow. Just amazing. You can socially distance yourself and still have a good time. Great for brunch, lunch, or dinner! I've been to Pilsen Yards many times and have enjoyed it each time. I love the atmosphere. It can be casual or trendy, whatever you're in the mood for. They have a nice outdoor space for the summer. And in the winter it's enclosed and they turn on the heaters. The floors are heated too! It's great for groups and it's relatively easy to get a reservation. I've enjoyed everything I've had- tacos, margaritas, burger. Everything is solid, but the stand out is always the sweet corn tamales! The salsa is also nice and kind of sweet. Guacamole is creamy and delicious. Chips are a little too salty for me, but I can scrape off the salt. Don't skip the drunken tres leches. I am rarely satisfied by a non-chocolate dessert, but it was really good! They have a bunch of weekly specials and happy hour M-Fri, Sat & Sun - half off draft cocktails and beer. On the first Wednesday of each month, they also give 25% the check if someone in your group works in Pilsen or lives in Pilsen, Little Village, or Bridgeport. I had a quick dinner at Pilsen Yards with a colleague of mine, and it was such a fun place to spend an hour! We made a reservation a few days before, and stopped in around 5pm. The energy and vibe is so fun here, especially on a nice summer day. The first thing I ordered was a mezcal margarita, my favorite. Their version is made with mezcal, orange liqueur, blackberry, sage, angostura, citrus, and chile salt. It came out within a minute or two of me ordering it, and wasn't the best drink I've had. I'm wondering if they have them pre-batched. It did the trick, though, and we set our sights on tacos! All tacos are a la carte, and I decided to order the fish, the beef, and the sweet potato. They were all absolutely fantastic, and definitely left me wanting more! My colleague was eating vegan and gluten-free and there were several options for her, as well. The staff here was so friendly and the entire experience was pretty great! I'd try a different cocktail if I came back, but overall I give Pilsen Yards two big thumbs up. read more

This review deserves a back story Ok so we went on Cinco De Mayo (a group of 4 of us) and we had reservations. They were the only place that had reservations left a few days before cinco de Mayo (that was a red flag) we unfortunately waited until the last minute to find a place to dine. But anyways we arrived to the location and was surprised to see they offered valet after we had parked three blocks away, but our other friends that drove separately were able to get valet parking even though they waited a very long time for a regular clothed male to ask for their keys (kinda awkward). We waited a while to check in and even after checking in it took a while to be seated....it was cinco de Mayo so I guess we can let that slide. The menu was a QR code so we started looked for our food options soon we were seated. I was underwhelmed with the offerings no flavored margaritas just the classic version. It was good and strong but the pitcher comes with a lot of ice. We tried the sangria which was tasty definitely made from scratch! We tried the Paloma too...it was okay. We had nachos for apps they were okay, tasty braised beef. The food isn't traditional Mexican style this is a Latin America style restaurant. I wasn't sold on the taco choices so I ordered....get this ....a burger I was going to get the flautas but others at the table ordered that so I decided to try theirs, they were okay. We also ordered the sweet corn tamales - different. I was told the Fish taco is fried, the chicken and shrimp tacos were good just different from what you may expect. I stopped in for a drink last night with some friends and had a fantastic experience. We were greeted upon entry by two friendly employees, and one of them suggested that we check out the heated patio. That turned out to be a fantastic recommendation. The patio wasn't very crowded, so the ambiance was low-key. We'd already eaten, so we had planned just to order drinks. I had the heat of passion, and it was delicious. The bartender didn't skimp on the alcohol so I got a nice buzz off the first drink. My sister had the same drink, but she thought it was just okay. One of my friends had the manhattan, and the other one had an old fashion. They liked their drinks too. I wanted to try the tacos, so I ordered a beef barbacoa taco. It was a mini taco (for $5.25), which was unexpected. But i really liked it. I'd go back for more tacos. However, I was a little surprised that they didn't have any carne asada tacos. I don't recall our waiter's name, but he was pretty cool. He was friendly and very attentive. The atmosphere had a warm and cozy vibe. We really enjoyed ourselves and would go back for sure.
