What a scam. I scheduled an appointment for them to fix few things that I was told were under warranty, one of which was a loud buzzing noise from my Hayward C200S filter housing. Tech said this is a super common issue and just overall bad design as the rubber end cap eventually forms holes/cracks so it no longer seals properly. This filter was just over a hear old, but he replaced the filter element and it fixed the issue. Then to my surprise I get a random invoice for almost $260 for the filter and install labor, when there was zero conversation or consent given for this non warrantied service. I spoke with Kevin the store manager from the Lakewood Ranch store who told me that according to his tech he did discuss with me, which is totally false. His solution was to just apologize and come get their now used filter and give me back mine, that basically they did nothing wrong. Then on top of it they were supposed to fix one remaining issue they missed on their original appointment and the tech said he was told to just install my old filter and leave. Again very poor communication as Kevin said nothing about cancelling this follow up call. I merely told him that in the future I wouldn't be a customer do theirs and he assumed this name to just cancel anything pending, instead of asking. read more

My normal pool girl Victoria is great. She's on vacation for a couple of weeks so they sent some young kid. He wrote on the ticket that they leave when they do the service and read letters. Jesus is Lord and when he arrived, my circulation and my fountains are working just fine, when he left, they were off . I called my Appliance Insurance, which I have my Pool stuff added on, and they came out on Monday and said there was nothing wrong with my pump, that somebody was in the box and playing with the panel and they needed to be reprogrammed this four days of no water circulation and $85 deductible for the pool servicemen to show up, I called in today to request that this Yung employee not be sent over here again and when my normal Pool gal Victoria would be back. They said she'd be back in another week. I told him why I did not want this young man here with his religiosity on the service ticket, and the fact that the pump was turned off when he was here. I asked if they credit me the $85 I paid for the service call deductible and they refused saying I should've called them about it. I've never had a pool person shut off the pumps and not turn them back on because it's clearly visible the water circulation and the fountains. So I thought maybe the pump was broken. I didn't think the pool service tech would be going in my box turning it off for no reason and leaving it off. The poor management department kept beating me over the head with. I should've called them about seven times and that's after I asked him to stop telling me that. So there's a big stubbornness and a mistreatment of customers going on here when we ask them to be accountable for their employees making mistakes. It wasn't my mistake. It was their employees mistake, so I guess they rather me come on yelp and give a bad review and affect their business then to give me $85 credit out of 120 a month and I'm already paying automatically with my credit card. I got tired of being beaten up by the manager and pushed around, and asked for the franchise owner to call me. We'll see if the franchise owner is smart about his business and goes ahead and gives me that $85 credit on the 120 I'm already paying. He would still break even after paying the Pool tech his hourly wage. It's no skin off his nose but you know what I don't know with the way I just got treated, but I'll wait until the franchise owner calls me and hopefully he has a business owner will look at it at a more reasonable way. I told the manager said you give me no choice but to give you a bad review on yelp then. It's not his business, he doesn't own it, so apparently he doesn't care. He's more invested in giving me a very hard time, and making it my fault that their employee screwed up. What a way to treat customers. Update: After zone called me and apologize, but did not want to pay the service fee. I had paid to get my pump back on from the panel. He said yes they turned the pump off to clean out the filters and such and sometimes forget to turn it back on I said well that's your employees fault not mine and you should pay me back in credit to my service, the $85 that I paid and deductible to the pool fix guys didn't want to do that. I said well can you at least meet me halfway? He said no but he would be willing to give me one credit and service which is $30 so I'm out $55 because some guy was unmindful and not paying attention when I explained him why I called the Pool fix it guys because I said I couldn't even imagine that someone would notice that the pump was off and that the fountains were not pouring water into my pool and there was no water circulation got irritated with me, & Just started bullying me. Why is it that when you do not accept their terms which are not fair and you stand up for yourself that man in business start bullying you? And if they can't bully you into submission then they want to hang up on you, another intent on getting their way and it's usually with a big dose of meanness included. I like Victoria my regular pool tech gal. I find women much more reasonable to do business with. read more

There are always surprise problems with pool ownership and Kevin and his staff have been very supportive with determining the problem and assessing whether the problem requires a service call. If I could give less than a star I would... Popped into the store to buy a filter and to my astonishment, they wanted $124 or $150+ for two types / choices... I respectfully declined, looked up the same type of filters online and got one delivered the next day for $62.99... I am all for supporting local businesses especially with what's going on in the country but... paying double or more of the price just for you to keep the lights on? No thank you! Consumer beware! This location is the best!!! I was new to having a pool last year and the people at this store( Anthony, Curtis, Michael and Tom) have helped me tremendously. Their advise and support has our pool looking and feeling wonderful. The weekly service, which is the best deal going seriously it's about the same amount as you would pay for chemicals and it's maintained weekly by a professional who does a great job maintaining your pool. The best part of my experience with this location is that they generally care about their customers. This is an update to a previous review. After discontinuing our service with Pinch Penny we hired the company that originally installed the pool equipment. They determined that the acid regulator they sold us for $2000.00 was never hooked up to the pool. Next, because of the size of the pool we have 2 salt cells, and one of those was never hooked up either. Hence, the reason the chemicals were always out of balance. The pool water would not filter out the trash at one end of the pool and it was found that the skimmer was never turned on. I would NOT recommend this company. They are clueless. They will sell you equipment that is not even necessary and then not even hook it up. It was a complete nightmare. read more

I'm so impressed with this pool supply store. They have went above and beyond to help me. I had a pool built last year and the pool company filed bankruptcy so I was left with no warranty. Luckily I had all Hayward equipment installed. This Pinch A Penny came out and did my warranty work on my Hayward equipment. There technicians did and amazing job repairing my equipment. Needed warranty repair on out Pentair Pool Pump and Pentair forwarded our need to it's local contractor, Pinch a Penny (the Lakewood Ranch location on LWR Blvd). So nice to have an issue resolved with no hassle, complications, struggles, or attitude. From Kevin (Owner), to Tom (Store Manager), to Ryan (Service Manager) who actually came out to service the water heater, I cannot praise them enough for the seamless manner in which the call was handled, and the service performed. Everybody knew what the others was doing and their was no waste of anybody's time reexplaining the issue, etc. Ryan came in, knew exactly what may have caused the problem, and rather than just changing the setting and going about his day, he went above and beyond to test the pump, only to find that it was more than the setting and the Thermal Regulator was not working probably. Replaced the sensor, and Walaa, all good and he was on his way. Everything took no more than 25 to 30 minutes, if even. Ryan exuded a wealth of knowledge regarding the Pentair system and had a positive and pleasant attitude during his visit. Was happy to know that as a local Pentair rep, I can reach out to Pinch a Penny directly for any Pentair related issues. Our pool is in good hands.
