A couple of weeks ago I signed up for the home pool service that included testing the water and cleaning the pool, weekly, for $100 per month. I didn't think I needed to ask a lot of questions - pretty basic, test the water, clean the pool (I told them cleaning wasn't necessary since I use a robotic system). I had been using an automatic water tester that I didn't like (didn't include all the normal tests), tried test trips (low accuracy), tried the chemical kit that was delivered with the pool (not much better than test strips), and taking samples to Leslie or Pinch A Penny. Both of those companies ran very detailed tests. But I thought a weekly test conducted by Pinch A Penny would be more convenient so I signed up. First week someone comes by, tests the water using a portable chemical test (fill the vials with water, drop a solution in, shake, look a the colors against a chart) made adjustments to the salt chlorination unit. Shake the chemical vials seemed a bit strange but I didn't say anything. After 3 weeks, this morning I tried to get into Pinch A Penny website and see my weekly test reports - not at all successful. Went to their store this morning and asked to seem my results over the past 3 weeks. Not in the system, so I manager (?) came out to help. He said the results are "in the back" and asked for my address, phone number and name. Comes back with "you're ph was....." and nothing else. I asked how I can see my results. Basically, you can't - at least not electronically through their portal. You can see the ones where they tested water you brought to the store. They don't have a way to enter them into the system. They also don't email you a weekly report, etc. You also don't get any indication they came to your house, like a sticker on your door. Is this important? YES IT IS. In the first visit they used one of those fill the vials and shake test unit, not a portal device similar to what they have in the store. Warning bells went off. That caused explore testing units. Leslie has a home unit, just like the one they use in the store that you can subscribe to for $50 a month, photo below. It gives you the same results, actions to take, formatted and printable just like what they give you in the store. I used it 5 times over the past couple of weeks. The reports show I wasn't getting any benefit from Pinch A Penny testing at my house. And I mean no benefit at all that I could determine. That's why I wanted to see reports. Pinch A Penny Pool Patio Spa - Water testing unit - Hot Tub & Pool Near Me - Palm Harbor, Florida

I have been coming to this store for the last 6 years and today will be the last time I ever go into a pinch-a-penny. They have sold me the filters for my pool for the last 6 years and today they sold me the wrong one (little taller). I installed it and realized they sold me the wrong one. I go back to the store to get the correct one and the teller tells me that it's the one that shows in the system. I don't understand as they have been selling me the same filter for the last 6 years! They were ready to return it and I was going to give me the correct one and a older guy comes out of the back and said, "We can't return it since it is wet". Well of course it's wet its a pool filter. He was rude and didn't even offer a solution. I believe this is the manager/owner. He is a real piece of work and lost a customer for this location and pinch-a-penny. I would have been ok with a return stock fee or something like that, but this guy has zero customer service and does not know how to treat loyal customers. read more

My fiancé has been coming to this Pinch A Penny for over 26 years. It is no longer a corporate operation. We had an issue with our sand filter. I called and German an employee at Pinch A Penny said I needed to put down a deposit for someone to come out and look at it. They would not take the deposit over the phone. I went into the store and gave them a $155.00 deposit. The company came out and said Pinch A Penny would call me back. Pinch A Penny called me back. I decided to go with another company. Pinch A Penny refused to give me my deposit back because German said Pinch A Penny did a service for me. So they call an estimate a service. I was never told the $155.00 deposit would not be returned. I told them I would agree to a credit. They refused. This is where we buy all our supplies for our pool. Tom the new owner has taken over in January of 2024. If this is how the new owner does business he will not be in business for long. read more

Very bad service ...they just put some tables on the wrong place...very unprofessional...my pool is green and they incressed the maintenance fee. They did not finish the job they were suppose to do. I had such a bad experience I wish I can post the pics . Excellent service! Each time we go there we are greeted by name and someone is there immediately to take our empty chlorine jugs and replace them while we have our pool and spa water tested. Sam in particular takes extra special care to ensure that we have everything we need. Always a pleasurable experience! read more

The store and the people who work there are great. But When I needed a repair they recommended Pinch a Penny Service out of Oldsmar and they were terrible. They did not finish the job they were suppose to do and were paid to do.They do not call you back and then they make you wait several weeks to fix the mistake they did. When I told them that I was not happy with there service the could care less. They told me people make mistakes and I agreed with take but I should not have to wait several weeks for them to fix there mistake. It will take about 5 minutes to fix what they didn't finish I put the review under the Pinch a penny store because they do not have any place for the service side to put a review. Absolutely amazing customer service. They were familiar with our type of spa, and knew exactly what chemicals we already had with the spa and what we needed to maintain it. They were able to answer all of our questions. Every sales associate that walked past asked if we needed help. They were all very friendly and courteous. These guys were on top of it!! The pool service provided by "corporate pinch a penny" is awful, took them over a week to give an estimate for service. I immediately replied via email to start immediately, 2 weeks later my pool is green. I called, and asked ,what is going on, the office staff replied apologetically that service was never started. Then they never called back with a start date, I had to call again. Stay away from this pool service. Tonight I go out to see if they came, as I have no communication when the come or go. The chlorinator which I intentionally did not refill , they put 1 tablet in... did I say my pool is green and cloudy now. I will be following up in the morning with a phone call. read more

I can't believe I've never written a review about our local pool supply store. We've been coming here since we started renting this place. They keep us in the know about what we need to put in our pool, how our pool is doing and when we need something new. They do our chemical analysis for us and everything is good. They do not try to over sell us and they don't try to do anything that isn't necessary. read more

Recently had a problem with pool pump motor, but wasn't quite sure. Went to local Pinch A Penny Pool Patio Spa #17 in Palm Harbor just south of Tampa Road and was pleasantly surprised. Young fellow by the name of Keaton greeted me. From the start Keaton was interested in diagnosing and fixing the problem and not selling a new motor. Especially impressed with his patience at testing the motor and helping me understand the problems. I highly recommend this store. read more

I enjoy going to the pool store. There are usually a few guys standing around so I never have to wait for service when I visit this location. I've had issues with my pool vac and the tech took my unit and took it apart to find parts that were inop. They had the parts on hand and were able to replace and repair my vac in a very timely manner. They are all very knowledgable and helpful. The only thing Ive been disappointed in was the positive reinforcement for me to purchase a solar blanket for my pool. It did absolutely nothing but keep the leaves out until I roll it up. Huuuuuge waste of money. Overall, they've earned my repeat business and I see no reason to try another pool store. read more

First off I would like to say thank you! They staff here is friendly and helpful. I came in because my pool cleaner was broken. Instead of trying to sell me a new pool cleaner that is $299, they showed me a part that I need to buy and I could install it myself for only $6. I purchased the part and the installation was simple and fast. They saved me money and a headache. Now our pool cleaner is working again and everyone is happy... thanks to the experienced and knowledgeable staff! read more

I received excellent rapid service when our old pool pump failed, and needed replacement. I brought in the old pump on a Sunday, and Becca in the parts department was very helpful getting us a new pump and replacing all seals, with NO CHARGE FOR LABOR. Reinstalled on Tuesday, and new pump runs great. Miraculously, when our water was then tested, it was still perfectly within range even though the pump had not worked for close to two weeks. Perhaps that was in part because we have Pinch a Penny check our pool water monthly (for free), and we follow their recommendation for needed chemicals. Highly recommended! read more
