I'm extremely disappointed with the service and professionalism from this pool company. Over multiple visits, the quality and conduct were consistently unacceptable: The first technician barely worked and spent much of the time on his phone. I requested that he not be sent back. The second technician responded with an unprofessional attitude any time I asked a basic question. The third technician repeatedly missed items that were supposed to be completed weekly, leaving me to discover what was skipped after the fact. This company appears to hire people who take little pride in their work, yet they still charge as if the full service was completed. I have video camera proof documenting technicians not performing the work they're billing for. When I raised these concerns with management, I was made to feel like I was the problem--despite the evidence. Rather than taking responsibility and correcting the service issues, I was told they would "continue servicing the pool until I find someone else," which felt like a dismissive way to avoid accountability. The final straw was a phone conversation where I asked, "Why do you think I'm unhappy?" Instead of addressing the documented service failures, the person I spoke to made up a false claim that I was upset because the technicians "don't speak English." That was completely untrue and frankly offensive--especially since my concerns were always about missed services and unprofessional behavior. For the record, I've been a respectful and generous customer and have tipped workers with cash and drinks. I'm ending service and would not recommend this company to anyone who expects reliable work, honest billing, and professional customer service. read more

I have been going to this store for years. Not only has their prices continued to increase (non stop for liquid chlorine), but their 'buy 10 refills and get 1 for free' is flawed as it reset at year-end leaving the end customer with no free refill when they deserve to have. I would never refer this company -i worked with them for a year. Not very responsive to customer needs and requests. Their customer service is worse than their service. A Zelle error/hack by the bank caused payments to be sent to the incorrect phone # for 4 months. When we fired them for bad service they stated we were behind 4 months(never got a statement). When I called to figure out what was happening since I was sending payments(with proof) I was called a thief , a liar and the police were going to be called on us. Then after multiple nasty emails were sent to me I was told a lien would be placed on my home. After working with the bank and the error was acknowledged by the bank. I called to discuss the issue - my calls were not returned. I don't appreciate being called a thief or a liar which was proven I wasn't. Horrible customer service- stay clear. read more

I had been a customer for over 6 years because the store is on my way to work. They had a loyalty "buy 10 get 1 free" program since I started shopping there. I went to buy chemicals and at the cash register I attempted to redeem a coupon for a bag of salt. The staff grabbed the coupon out of my hand and said they don't honor them. I explained that I had redeemed at least three of them in my experience at the store but (now two staff) explained that they didn't know how that could be. Like others I had experienced the less than friendly service but I'm done here. Leslie's 1.5 miles away will be my pool store from now on. read more

I use this Pinch a Penny even though there is another one around the corner from my house. The one near me was happy to take my money but when I had an important question the owner was too busy to come out to talk to me. The last straw was the Saturday they ran out of chlorine because they didn't bother to stock it properly which wasted my precious weekend time. Not so here. They have what you need when you need it. No matter what my problem is they take the time to talk me through it. I have a difficult pool. It is large inground vinyl liner with mango trees that hang over it constantly dumping leaves and pollen in. It's basically a nightmare to get right. The last pool company I had ruined the liner so now I have to do it myself. The people at this Pinch a Penny talked me through getting it from completely green back to blue. Another nice feature of this store is their parking is right outside the door so you don't have to lug the chlorine jars very far. They provide rolling carts to make it even easier. I find the people at this store to be knowledgeable and they have what you need in stock. read more

What a disappointment. I have been a loyal customer for 21 years, buying all my pool supplies and pool equipment from the 1751 S Dixie Highway store. The staff have always been knowledgeable and friendly. The location has new owners. What a change! I purchased a new pool pump and installed it myself. It didn't work. Return to pinch a penny to be told it can't be a bad pump, that I must be doing something wrong. Insisted I pay a $100 call out fee to have His Guy install it correctly. The gentleman that came didn't seem to know anymore than I. He diagnosed a bad wire. He didn't have time to "mess with it" and left. I purchased the wire and replaced it. Pump still didn't work. I took the new, non working pump out and replaced it with my old pump. That pump worked! I returned the new pump for a refund. I met the new owner. Very condescending. Wouldn't refund the call out charge. Begrudgingly refunded the pump cost. Decided to cut my losses and take my business elsewhere. Several weeks later I returned the 4 chlorine containers to them. I was told that the new owners had changed the deposit refund policy and no longer refunded the deposit they had charged me on each of them. I'm not surprised. I'm sure he has a lot of people taking their business elsewhere. After 21 years you have managed to drive me away from my local store. I am sure I am not alone in my feeling cheated. read more

Not recommended. Fairly rude front end staff (on a fairly consistant basis.) They were rarely helpful and, even on slow days, seemed unwilling to help me find what I was looking for. I was even approached by a fellow customer one day in the parking lot who asked me "is it me, or are those folks really rude?" I laughed, but agreed with him. When the front end is staffed by only a couple of young men, you'll be lucky to get a grunt or thank you, even if you just dropped $250 on a new pool pump or $400 on a vacuum. So we used to shop at this pinch-a-penny for all of our pool supplies. Frankly, we quit coming because the old owner was basically a jerk. He never smiled and seemed to hate the fact he was at work. I was in a bit of a rush yesterday and needed to run in for a new backwash hose. I called ahead to make sure they were open in the Labor Day holiday and was in luck. Easy parking in front of the store. They were pretty slow when I got there so a young man came out from behind the counter to help me locate the hose. Several options available from 25 to 100 feet, I opted for the 100ft to get the water out to the driveway and not kill the grass. I was a little surprised by the $38 price tag but I needed it and they had it so what are you gonna do.... Thankfully I engaged the young fellow when I was cashing out and learned there was a new owner. Then I noticed the store looked cleaner and there was clearly more inventory around the store. I paid without any hassle and went on my merry way. I will definitely go back as it's closer and more convenient then where I've been shopping. read more

This store not only did not appropriately clean the pool, they have little to no knowledge how a salt water system works, they did not consistently show up and made repairs that were not pre-approved and wanted to be paid. I am not sure what changed with this particular location, but it has changed in the 4 years I have ben going there. I went in for my water test and to ask about a leak in a pipe going from my filter to the heater (which THEY installed). The woman at the end of the counter was so engrossed in scrolling on her phone, she never even looked up to greet me (I see on their website she is evidently the owner). The gentleman after showing him the picture immediately said "this isn't our fault". Sir....I never said it was, I'm just asking for advice. After basically brushing me off and telling me "it could be anything..you're going to have to cut the pipe and change it" Thanks for nothing...and also for showing me that customers aren't your top priority any longer read more

I was referred to Mitch at this location by the Fort Lauderdale store as the Pompano location does more heater and pool automation. Mitch came out the day after I called and provided a reasonable estimate for installing a new natural gas pool heater, WiFi connected pool automation and replacing the pool lighting with LED bulbs. He also suggested re-plumbing the existing pvc because the setup was over complicated and was two pumps but only needed one. We agreed on a price and a date for the work to be done. Mitch was very accommodating of our schedule and was able to do most of the installation without needing to be there. There were a few issues that arose during the install, but Mitch worked through all the glitches and in the end, I'm super pleased with the quality of the work done and the professionalism Mitch provided. The iPhone app for the Pentair ScreenLogic works great and I even got it connected to my Alexa last night. Now I just ask Alexa to turn on the pool light and the spa and we are good to go. We recently moved and wanted to return our 4 chlorine containers to them to get our deposit (something like $5 per container). The quite rude staff refused to give us our deposits back, claiming "there might be holes in the containers", questioning when we got the containers (less than a month before), and even questioning whether they were their containers, even though they have the Pinch a Penny logo and name in them! There were 3 young guys in the store on a Saturday afternoon. I walked in looking for a replacement O-ring for my pool pump. When they questioned me regarding what type of problem I was having with my pump, they suggested replacing pieces that I knew nothing about! They actually took apart a pump in the store to show me how to replace the piece that was causing the problem. I was amazed that guys so young were so knowledgeable about pool maintenance. Love the new owner! Older posts (pre 2014?) are about the previous owner (who also caused me to stop going there.) Store is always clean and well stocked. Wiley and the other employees are helpful and friendly. I get my water tested there often, and this is a place I am glad to give my money to. read more
