Had a power surge that blew out main control and salt generator. Called this location and scheduled appt later that day. He was equipped to solve my problem at a reasonable price. Had another run-in with this store on Cass Circle. Had a leaking jug and was told I would have to buy a new one. I was having my water tested. Turned around to address the manager. I told him-NO. I'am not paying for a new jug. Brought in 3 and he says, well, you only want 2-then. Had the same problem a few years ago. I refuse to buy NEW jugs for them. He answers across the store. Well, I'm not going to argue over a God Damn jug!! Everyone in the store heard him. Pretty " unprofessional" to say the least!! You would think that all the money spent throughout 1-yr. by a customer that they would cover the cost of a new jug! So, we are buying the store new jugs and it doesn't cost them a penny! We aren't pinching a penny-they are!! Other pool stores to consider doing business with. I rest my case!! read more

In August 2023, I purchased a AquaCal Auto Pilot, Salt Water chlorinator, from the Kass Cir. Pinch A Penny. There were some hiccups with scheduling and a delay, but the unit was eventually installed satisfactorily. The unit performed fine for 6 months, till around February, when it began displaying an error code on the salt cell. I called the Pinch A Penny and got a call back from Sherry. She said it was likely the control box and that because it was covered under warranty, they would order me another. Wonderful I thought! A week later I called to check on the status of the part and was told it was on back order. An understandable occurrence. I called several more times over the course of the next several weeks, each time getting the same information, that the part was on back order. Just by happenstance, I stopped by another Pinch A Penny. It was suggested that I reach out directly to AquaCal in Saint Petersburg, as they were a good company to do business with. I called Aquacal and was told that the back order was because of microchips used on the circuit boards, but they were expecting the parts soon and would send me a control box as soon as they came in. This validated what Pinch a Penny was telling me. They also searched their system to see if there was a service/warranty call in for my equipment. They had no record of any call coming in, for my address, or system. This was disappointing, having been told by Sherry at Pinch a Penny that she had put a call in, and spoken to her AquaCal rep. To give them the benefit of doubt though, perhaps there is the possibility that the call to the rep was not registered in AquaCal's system. The AquaCal rep on the phone assured me they would send me a new control box and to expect it in about 2 weeks as the backordered parts were coming in soon. The control box was delivered to my house as stated about 2 weeks later. I scheduled the box to be installed by a different Pinch A Penny because the Kass Circle Pinch A Penny had never called me one time to give me an update. This, combined with what I was told by the AquaCal rep about no recorded call for my warranty replacement, and the initial mix up on the install when I purchased, did not inspire confidence. The day I scheduled the install with another Pinch A Penny, I called the Kass Cir. store. Sherry answered. As soon as I told her my name, she told me, Alan is coming today to install your control box. What? I was never called or informed that the part they ordered had even come in. How could scheduling occur without the customers consent? I asked why something was scheduled without my knowledge. She could not provide an explanation and became somewhat argumentative. She said we have called you every week to update you, which is totally and completely wrong. I was never called a single time with any sort of update. And please, my name is not honey or sweety in business dealings. They know their stuff about anything and everything pool related, and were never rude, but the non existent follow up with this entire situation and possible, questionable integrity is disappointing from such a well established company. read more

First I would like to start off by saying I do not like to talk bad about a business especially in these times of Covid 19,but I want to stress my dissapointment with this Pinch a Penny store & it's persons. Two weeks ago my pool motor broke & I called Ed at this store& a new motor was ordered & then installed,I paid for new motor & paid for the install.The new motor started out humming & whining, This got progressively worse that within two weeks time it was unbearably loud you could hear it through my home.Well we could not stand it anymore because the (new) motor was defective. At this time we called and a new one was installed again ,within two weeks time.The part that upsets us is that they (pinch a penny) charged us again for the install We do not find that fair ,because it was their defective motor and ALL should be square on installing another one.But NO that's our company' policy said Ed & Sherri & we will not refund your SECOND install.So I end this in saying you should work with your customers a little better than you have presented yourselves with us. A TWO WEEK NEW DEFECTIVE MOTOR THAT YOUR COMPANY SOLD ---SHAME ON YOU AN INTELLIGENT Mgr WOULD CONTACT THE DISTRIBUTOR OF THE MOTOR & GET A REFUND FROM THEM & NOT CHARGE US TWICE FOR LABOR ,thank goodness there are other Pinch a Penny stores in my area for future business dealings. read more

I would have to say the experience was absolutely amazing until they made a mistake with chlorine refill gave me old bottle so make sure put your name on the bottle I didn't know that was something had to do was never told to me but the owner and the old owner. The old owner kept on telling me I didn't get it from them literally arguing with me absolutely worst customer experience and got the hole I have never seen you before ok I normally come in on Saturday and Sunday today was Monday. The new owner filled the old bottle that's was given to me said well it's just a drip couldn't have all been lost out the bottle. He did try and give me another old bottle I said no I had to new ones I was under the impression they just exchanged them makes absolutely no sense. I payed for the one bottle and left unfortunately I'll have to go somewhere els from here on out. He did try give it to me for free. I said no I'll pay for it keep the other old bottle. Just not sure they having bad day or what but just make sure you label your bottles because if they mess up it's the customer fault... read more

I have been coming here for over eight years. The owner is a nice gal and Ed has been there forever. He is very helpful and knowledgeable. They are honest people who do not sell you things you don't need. They will repair things if you bring it in but my husband is handy and with Ed's guidance he has been able to do most needed repairs. Three years ago I moved to the area and bought a home with a pool. Friends told me to take my pool sample to Pinch A Penny because they were the one they use. I met Don & Sherri, the owners, and they explained they have everything I will need to take care of my pool going forward. The staff, Don, Sherri, Ed and Ken are extremely helpful. Ed is the pool wizard. Ed is the person who tests the pool water and tells you what you need to do. Come in with any pool issue and Ed can tell you how to fix it. Ed can answer any question about any product in the store if Don & Sherri are busy. Ken fills in for Ed and he is excellent. Ken is also able to answer questions about things in the store. They helped me pick out a vacum for my pool, that has worked out perfectly. After a few years the vacum needed a tune up and Ed took it for a day, did all the work, and now it runs like new. All cost covered under the warrantee. They make you feel like family every time you walk in the door. They remember your name after a few visits, they carry your heavy items out to the car, your are always greeted with a smile and how can we help you. I would be lost without them. Friendly staff and owners. Ok for weekly refills on chlorine. Wouldn't advise to trust them for anything else. Sought advice twice. Twice was misinformed. Pump motor started to hum but not operate. Called and was immediately told I needed a new pump. Was at Home Depot for something and decided to check out their pumps while I was there. The guy in charge of that area asked me if the pump hadn't been turned on in awhile(winter), it wasn't, said it was more than likely rusted, it was. One crescent wrench later and he saved me $450.00. Another time I brought in a cloudy water sample. After all the fancy tests was advised I needed some stabilizer and alkaline. $30.00 later, I still had cloudy pool. Googled my problem, went to Lowe's bought $10.00 Clarifier, problem solved. Like I said, good for chlorine refills. read more

Upon becoming pool owners for the 1st time we had normal problems with cloudiness and such but we listened to what staff said and did what they told us...they get it right every time! We have bought everything from chlorine tabs, to a poo emoji float to a pool heating system we're always happy and wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

Our pool tested very low on chlorine. Dr. Ed recommended I run my salt cell over night and bring a water sample in the next morning. This I did and it still was low. I had already prepared myself for having to buy a new cell. I told Ed what the lights were doing on my control panel and he assured me that the cell was working that I just needed to increase the percent up to 75. Dr. Ed was right again next day everything was back to normal and he saved me a couple hundred dollars in the purchase of a cell that I did not need. read more

Pinch A Penny 1410 Kass Cir Spring Hill, FL 34606 (352) 683-8305 Owner: Sherry Haig We have been going to this store for 10 years, Ed that works there is a wonderful resource and is the main reason we go there. Our pool light has been out for about a year and I asked the owner Sherry if they have some one that can change it out, she said yes it would cost parts and the guy Tony would charge me for the service. We scheduled the service for Saturday the 26th at 1Pm. Sherry did bring up that if the water was to cold Tony may not want to do it (I was not offered a reason why). On Thursday I make sure the chemicals are fine in the pool and shock the pool so it would be good to go for Saturday. Fast forward to Saturday, I got called into surgery and my wife had worked the night before so after 3 hours of sleep she gets up at 12:30 to make sure Tony was not inconvenienced by waiting around. Well they guy never showed up, at 1:36 young gentleman was polite and looked up our appointment and confirmed it was after 1pm but no firm time, just some time before the end of the business day. Sherry Haig called at 1:52pm, and said "Tony had shown up on Friday at 1 pm, banged on the door and no one answered." So he decided to go behind our house and looked into the pool cage to see what the job entailed. He told Sherry "that the pool was green and that he did not feel comfortable getting in the pool with out the chemicals being tested." My wife told her that the pool was crystal clear and Sherry very nastily said "I am just going off of what I am told, You will have to get the water tested before we will reschedule" My wife went up immediately and had the pool water tested and it was fine. So with out asking Sherry rescheduled Tony for Thursday, when both my wife and I work. I went up to get the light and gasket I had already paid for. Sherry said I am sorry if Stephanie was upset, my reply was my wife "Tiffany" and I have been coming here for 10 years. At that time Sherry gave me another excuse that Tony said that the bricks over the light were too tall that he could not reach the light from out side of the pool and would have to get in the pool to do the job. So to recap. 1) the water may be too cold so Tony might not do the job 2) Tony showed up on Friday instead of Saturday and knew he was not going to come on the next day. 3) Tony lied about the water being green so the job had to be rescheduled 4) Tony bricks too tall to get to submerged light from out side of the pool 5) Sherry had no reason to be nasty with my wife and make her have the water tested 6) Sherry & Tony knew he was not coming back on Saturday and wasted 3 hours of my Wife's time Sherry has a very poor attitude and no customer service prowess. To back a person like this Tony and crap on a 10 year customer at the same time. Sherry your should make an effort to know the names of your regular customers. I pass 3 Pinch a Pennies, a poolmedic and a Mr. Pool every day when I go to work and plan on going else where for my pool care needs. read more
