We come here monthly and love it. I should say BF loves it ...I am not a huge Chinese food person. I pretty much stick with chicken wings. The wings are great and he reports everything else is great for his food. I had two drinks ....the zombie no then one the sweet waitress recommended...it was great !!! She listened to the kind of drink I liked and nailed it. I had been eating for YEARS at another place with a huge language barrier... No ones fault ...but none of that here. Friendliest waitress we have had in a long time! Made our night extra nice ! As always appreciate the heartfelt thank you from several employees as we left. Take out-forced to use online ordering, which one would think would leave less to interpretation. Wonton Soup was a very eggy Hot & Sour soup, also an unordered Miso soup that tasted like dirty dishwater and seaweed salad that we assumed came with the mushy spicy tuna or salmon roll. The General Tsio's chicken was soggy and the broccoli had an "off" taste and no crunch, assuming both must have been microwaved. The vegetable fried rice had slivers of brown chewy, assuming, beef mixed in, overall a very expensive awful meal. Will stick to Jade Palace for sushi and Szechuan Taste for Chinese...really can't even give the one star. My friends & enjoyed a most wonderful Lunch experience, yesterday afternoon. Their handmade dumplings were mind blowing. Their hot & sour veg. My husband and I were dying for some Chinese food last night. We went to our usual place in downtown Exeter, but couldn't find a parking space because of a bicycle event happening. We drove back down route 108 wondering where to go when we noticed Pine Garden right next door to Margaritas. We were so hungry, we figured "what the heck" let's give it a try. Man, are we glad we did!! When we were seated, we ordered a Mai Tai. Our waitress, Liz, told us about their "special Mai Tai" so we said we would each have one. It was delicious! I was surprised at the variety of offerings on their menu. Soups, salads, sizzling platters, anything you could ask for! I don't eat lamb but, my husband does and there were at least two different lamb options. We will go back when my son is with us so they can share the lamb dish. Liz was also very helpful explaining the menu options to us, the different ways the food is prepared, the rice, etc... She told us the restaurant is under new management. I think it's made all the difference because I've seen other reviews on here before the new management took over which aren't very good. If you are one of those people, please go back and give the place another chance. You'll be very glad you did! We got the crab rangoon to start. Now, there's nothing worse than getting them lukewarm or nearly cold, and overstuffed so that they are chewy, not crispy, which has been our experience at most places. These crab rangoon came out piping hot! They were not overly filled either. In fact, they were perfectly crispy and delicious. We shared the last one on the plate! On Liz's recommendation, we tried the chicken wings. Again, they came out steaming hot with a delicious, crispy coating. We ate every single one of them. For main course, I got the orange shrimp and the hubby got chicken with pea pods and water chestnuts. Both dishes came with a brown rice. Both were absolutely delicious! We struggled to finish and ended up taking the rest home...which wasn't much! We left stuffed and delightfully surprised at a fabulous meal. Next time we go, I'm going to give the Egg Foo Young and pork fried rice a try and my husband wants to get something with beef, pea pods and gravy and maybe some chicken teriyaki which Liz also recommends. Ok.. First the good.. The hot and sour soup and the tea. Yup, That is it. Atmosphere = Small tables in an open area. No booths. Cafeteria? Service was good We ordered two drinks (headhunter and zombie).. I'm not sure they knew what was supposed to go into these but they were basically fruit juice. We ordered the pu pu platter, fried rice and chow mien. Rice tasted a little burnt and greasy. Chow mien was more liquid then vegetable Most of the platter was bland (a little sweet). Fingers and wings were ok. The teriyaki... ooooh the teriyaki. I had to spit out. Best way I could describe it... Hmm.. It seemed to cause a paste to form in my mouth... Great food, last two visits were top notch. Tonight I ordered the seaweed salad as I have in the past, and for $4.50 I got a dash of seaweed salad plopped on top of a giant bowl of iceberg lettuce. Not too keen on ordering a seaweed salad and getting mostly iceberg lettuce. read more

This was some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Steak teriyaki skewers were leathery and smelled and tasted like fish. There were two florets of broccoli in our chicken and broccoli. Would absolutely never go back here. read more

Was blown away by the quality of this restaurant. I typically judge a restaurant by the quality of their Hot & Sour soup, and this has some of the best I have ever tasted. The server was amazing, very kind, sweet, and accurate. She went above and beyond her expected duties to make sure we had a good time. I suggest the scallion pancakes, they are phenomenal. The only negative was the water, which was fairly awful. Great place to stop when visiting Hampton Beach and the NH Seacoast, or if your from the area, and looking for a regular Chinese place. read more

My son and I decided to try this out to celebrate Chinese New Year. The atmosphere is pleasant yet odd. It is clean and spacious with red leathery looking booths and Chinese music playing loudly while large big screen tvs hanging from the ceiling had the latest Pats coverage going on. We were seated at a comfortable booth and ordered tea (which was not on the bill so I assume free), shrimp egg foo yung, pupu platter and steamed dumplings and coca cola. The food was delicious and quick but the service kind of less than attentive. Luckily we liked everything since our server never came back to ask. The grand total including 20% tip was $36. I have been coming here for over 2yrs and never have failed us! If something's not right they fix it. Food is always on point and drinks are always fresh! Use to go Jade Palace and won't ever go back there again. Everyone is always so welcoming and always willing to just strike up a conversation. It's hardly the old Pine Garden, what a surprise when we wanted Chinese ! We were not going to go there but soooo glad we gave it another try. Looks the same but the food has come 360'. Just try a sit down luncheon, for starters, best lunch anywhere, beautiful and plentiful and nothing over $9. My fav. is always ginger green beans & shrimp, not little baby shrimp but 5 good size shrimp. Hot & sour soup hits the spot, and crab rangoon or spring roll, all comes w/lunch. Been there, done that - I have the leftovers to prove it....Never again, food was sub-par by dine-in standards. I would say it compares more closely to Chinese food you would find at a mall food-court. Most of the food came quickly(10 minutes); which speaks volumes about the place as there were only 2 other tables occupied(on New Years Eve!!!) - Other than having a side dish finally arrive well beyond the midpoint of our meal...Service was exceptional if you weren't looking for refills, needed another napkin, dinnerware or wanted to pay your bill. Also, they have 2 TV's, neither of which were on a channel showing anything, they were instead on the channel you get when you don't pay your bill. Overall the food is decent. One issue was we didn't get any sweet & sour sauce. Only the hot mustard & the prepacked soy:/ I've generally never had to request this when getting any Chinese Food. If I could give this place a zero, I would. The first time and only time I went, the place was dirty, it smelled horrific, and I got moldy food. I asked for my money back but was told I could not get refunded. I called the town health inspector and was told they'd investigate, but obviously nothing has come of it. How this place has remained open is beyond me. Absolutely disgusting. read more

I've been coming to the Pine Garden for years, loved the food. Since they have become the New Pine Garden the food is terrible. The one positive thing I have to say about all the recipe changes is the General Toas Chicken is now spicy, as it should be. The fried rice and pupu platter were horrible. My favorite thing in the pupu platter used to be the spare ribs. They were dry and just weren't the same. I used to really like their food so maybe all the people who gave bad revues for their food in the past may in fact like the new menu however I will not be returning. read more

Can I give a negative star? This was the worst food I have ever had in my entire life. It announced "under New Management" well they need to be fired. We spent over $75 on takeout for my family and could not even get through the crab rangoon! The fortune cookies were even stale! My go to place for Chinese food. Their Ginger Chicken is sublime, as well as their appetizers. In fact I can't think of anything I've ordered there that has disappointed. I love going there for date night with the boyfriend. He usually gets the Hawaii 5-0, which is scallops, lobster, shrimp, chicken, and beef over vegetables and I ended up eating some which says something because I usually hate seafood. The staff is always friendly, the wait has never been bad. The cocktails are great as well. The décor is lacking a little, very typical and unimpressive but you'll be so focused on the food that I doubt it will matter. read more

I have always loved the food at the Pine Garden. The "new Pine Garden .... not so much. Earlier this spring I put in an order of egg rolls, the house special soup and my favorite: shrimp with pea pods and water chestnuts. I also ordered brown rice instead of white rice. When I get home I readied myself for a fine Chinese dinner. Uh oh, Not so fast. The egg roll was okay, the soup lukewarm but the shrimp dish was the biggest disappointment. Instead of shrimp, pea pods and water chestnuts I got carrots, some vegetables, and a few shrimp in a thick tomato sauce. When I called to report the mistake there was no apology. Rather the irritated voice on the line asked did I want to "change" the order? Well.. YES, I replied. When I picked up the new order I pointed out that their "shrimp with carrots" wasn't even on the menu. The woman at the desk simply shrugged. By way of my background I am a child of parents who experienced the 1930's Depression. We never throw food away. When I took the second order home and tasted it, it was not acceptable. Therefore, the tomato/shrimp concoction along with the white rice went into the compost. I won't waste my money at the New Pine garden. Hopefully there will be a change in ownership/management and the Pine Garden will again offer actual Chinese food. read more

I had takeout last night and it did not disappoint. Ordering online was very easy and everything I had tasted fresh and delicious. Their website says that they don't cook with MSG which is a major plus in my book. I love being able to have good sushi while my boyfriend can get some of the more typical Chinese dishes. There are quite a few Chinese restaurants in town and I've tried them all. Pine Garden is definitely my favorite and will be my go-to. read more

Wow.....cant believe the positive reviews. I am 52 years old and I have had my fair share of Chinese food all over the country. Locally as well. I can say with no reservation that this was some of the worst chinese food I have ever had, if not THE worst. Boneless spareribs were mostly fat and there was a red paste covering them. Sesame chicken was way overcooked and it was more like chicken jerky. Eggrolls were empty....very little filling in them. I could barely see the shrimp in the Sweet and sour shrimp. I did enjoy the taste of the dumplings but the dipping sauce was minimal. Barely enough for 1/2 an order. It may be "The New" Pine Garden but certainly not new and improved. read more
