The first issue was being asked to remove our existing backsplash for measurements before confirming whether the material was even available. A week later, we were informed of a delay until early August because the material wasn't in stock. Had we known that beforehand, we could have postponed the measurements and avoided living with exposed drywall in our kitchen for months. Once the material finally arrived, the countertop was installed relatively quickly. However, the backsplash installation was pushed back again until September 1. The day before the scheduled installation, we were told the crew would arrive sometime in the "late afternoon" with no actual time window provided. My wife and I had to rearrange our entire day to accommodate an undefined arrival time. When the installers finally arrived, they discovered the measurements were incorrect and had to remeasure and recut the backsplash, creating yet another delay. The installers themselves have been excellent and do quality work. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the project management team. Communication, planning, scheduling, and overall coordination have been consistently poor throughout this project. For a remodel of this cost, the level of disorganization has been both frustrating and unacceptable. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Shell Fab. While their craftsmen do great work, their project management has turned what should have been an exciting renovation into a months-long headache.

The porcelain tile flooring install, wall demo and construction, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, countertops, tile backsplash, and painting. I can't express how much we adore our kitchen and how wonderful they were to work with. Aaron, our designer was awesome! He listened to what I wanted, had great suggestions and we ended up with the kitchen of our dreams. The contractors were extremely professional and meticulous! This is a small business and I am happy that I not only supported a small biz but got individualized attention and quality work out of it. Due to labor shortages they were down to 2 people in the shop and 2 people to install from 14. That didn't stop them from making sure my job was done to perfection. The owner of the business did the install himself with one other person and stayed until 9pm to make sure my counter looked perfect before leaving. I know from working with them so much trying to find the slab of my dreams that they work long hours... We were looking for someone to install Dekton in a condo where we were doing a complete gut remodel. We contracted with SS NY to install Dekton Solid surface to a small bathroom and paid them a hefty sum of $17,000 for a 5' x 9' bathroom. (We thought this product was worth the splurge not to have to deal with grout lines as we age.) Neither we nor our GC were ever given complete instructions as to how the gutted bathroom walls had to be prepped before installation. This held up our entire remodel project for months, as we and our GC tried to comply with SS NY; with limited info we were given. Any communication with this firm was sparse, initiated by us and only followed up sporadically by a woman (whom I won't name) in the Buffalo office. She was generally evasive and rude to us. We realized that the decisions for Buffalo were being made out of the Rochester office and after much pleading we were "allowed" to speak to an installer out of Rochester. First, he told us the product could not even be installed in our bathroom and asked us to choose another product, which reluctantly we did. Then we found they could not install that product either. When we tried to walk away from the deal, they threatened to keep a restocking fee. So we continued on with them. Apparently, they just were not capable of doing this small job, because in the end they accused us of not cooperating with their instructions (what instructions we ask?), fired us as clients and gave us a full refund! This was the best thing that could have happened! Incidentally, in the email where they fired us as clients, they included an attachment from Cosento, the maker of Dekton which had complete instructions as to wall prep for Dekton. (We and our GC agreed that it would have been nice to have those instructions 5 months ago when the whole process began!) We were able to find another company and within weeks the job was complete, for basically the same price. However, the delay caused us to find a temporary apartment to live in because we had no bathroom in our new condo...and this was costly. My advice would be to RUN, not walk away from working with this company. They have poor communication skills and non-existant customer service.

If you do business with Sortie, be prepared to fight extensively simply to get what you pay for…read more Sortie had to return four times after the initial install to fix blatant, careless mistakes. One in particular involved an installer cracking the countertop and gluing it together as if nobody would notice. I'm convinced the company has grown to the point where some of their installers are inexperienced. Every time we called Sortie to complain about obvious mistakes by the installers, we were fed incredibly illogical reasons on why the major mistakes by the installers were not their fault. Sortie eventually had skilled workers come to fix the issues but this was not easy. Basically, if Sortie threw a baseball through your window, they would vigorously blame the window and the baseball to escape accountability.

Buyer beware... We used Sortie indirectly through a builder. Throughout of dealings with them,…read morethey were unprofessional, tried to sell us granite with a crack and installed our quartz countertop with two noticable defects and refused to make it right.
