Today was a super gloomy day and it almost looked like it was going to snow lol! Dave suggested that we head out to Matlacha and Pine Island and have a late breakfast at the Pine Island Getaway Cafe. Great idea! We love supporting our local community as it is still recovering from Hurricane Ian. We crossed the bridge towards St. James City and towards the Cafe. It was bustling and it looks like a lot of snow birds have found this hidden gem. Everything is homemade and baked there. We ordered our usual- Scrambled eggs piled high on a Croissant with bacon and cheese. A delicious crispy concoction that keeps us coming back! Not to mention the fresh ground coffee and the little patio outside overlooking a peaceful lake. We ate our sandwiches outside in the cool beautiful breezy weather. The sandwich is so yummy and you need a fork and knife to cut through the delicate croissant. Then off we go to our favorite little Publix on Pine Island to grocery shop. There's a great patio out back overlooking the water -- part of it is even screened in, which makes it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the view. We tried the almond croissant, coffee éclair, gyro sandwich, a Cuban coffee, and a café olé -- everything was fresh and flavorful. This is a small French Bakery tucked away in Pine Island Florida. A wonderful Young couple with a real French baker as part of the team run the shop. Pastries are made fresh daily (closed on Mondays) so get there early. The almond croissants are amazing and the best we have ever had, as well as a raisin pastry only made on weekends a family favorite. When we visit family and friends iff island they always ask us for treats from here. read more

We had a wonderful breakfast at this adorable French cafe this morning. Nestled in an out-of-the-way area on Pine Island it is truly a little gem. Run by a lovely husband and wife, the place was super charming, neat, comfortable and the food was incredible. You can tell that everything is made super fresh and wholesome. We had the breakfast croissant and the blueberry and cream cheese brioche. SOOOO GOOD!!!! The best of part of our whole experience was finally finding a restaurant that serves decent coffee! We always bring instant Cafe Bustelo coffee packets with us to restaurants b/c the coffee is always weak with no flavor. Not here!! The coffee at Pine Island Getaway Cafe is bold yet smooth and balanced. They also have heavy cream upon request which is our go-to with drip coffee. We went back for a second cup! I highly recommend dining here! My only lament is that they are only open during season, so get out there and enjoy this fabulous find soon. It is worth the trip!! Bon Apetit! read more

Wow! What a hidden gem! Stashed away in a distant corner of an industrial park on a barrier island in Florida is this little patisserie seemingly dropped in direct from Paris! They've got the greatest selection of baked items and coffees to enjoy waterfront as the sun rises to warm the day. The owners are friendly and happy to entertain special orders. I've had a croque monsieur sandwich (with the most heaven-sent bechamel!), the buttery, oh-so-flaky croissants, the quiches, and the most amazing to-go chicken pot pie. This pot pie was absolutely wonderful: Flaky and buttery crust, perfect sauce-to-ingredient ratio, and just enough white wine in the sauce to remind you you're enjoying the taste of France. The coffees are "ok" (I'm not big on flavored coffees) but this is my new favorite morning roost in SWFL! PS: Free, decent WiFi, and pets are welcome on the patio. Highly Recommended! read more

On an island where there is not much and even less to do, a place like Pine Island Getaway Cafe really saves the day and brings some light to the locals. Beware that when driving to this place it feels like you're going the complete wrong way, although that's how it feels driving through most of Pine Island, but trust your gps for once. They have tons of bakery items that all look delicious- my mouth watered just looking at them. I thought their coffee was pretty good! As well as we got a scrambled egg croissant type thing and that was the perfect, scrumptious breakfast. They have a nice screened in patio that looks out into the nothingness of Pine Island, and it's really just a nice experience overall! I don't recommend visiting Pine Island personally but if you do or stay in Matlacha nearby, this is a great option! read more

Sit inside in the air conditioning or eat outside in the screened-in porch area with views of Florida wilderness and a canal. Check the hours before you go. By 3pm, the cafe is shutting down. My daughter-in-law and I checked out this little cafe today and were absolutely thrilled with the Almond Croissant we devoured. I purchased the Black Forest Cake and brought it home for my husband, which delighted him. Everything in the cafe looked Amazing and we can't wait to go back for lunch. Not only does the food deserve more than 5 stars but the delightful gentleman, Jacob, who waited on us deserves more as well.
