The Bronx Experience in Shelton If you want the soul of…read moreArthur Avenue without the trip to New York, Gaetano's Deli in Shelton is the undisputed heavyweight champion. Founders Guy and Milanno actually got their start on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx back in 1990, and they've successfully transplanted that high-energy, authentic Italian spirit right into Fairfield County. The Foundation: Arthur Avenue Bread The bread at Gaetano's is legendary. They source it directly from the Bronx, ensuring that every sandwich starts with a foundation of beautiful, crusty sesame seed bread. * The Texture: It has that signature "snap" on the outside while remaining airy and soft on the inside. * The Flavor: The toasted sesame seeds add a nutty depth that complements the salty Italian meats and tangy vinegars perfectly. The Gold Standard Chicken Cutlets Many places claim to have good cutlets, but Gaetano's cooks theirs to absolute perfection. * The "Kovac's Special": Often cited as their flagship sandwich, it features a chicken cutlet so tender and well-seasoned it stands out even when paired with heavy hitters like prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, and broccoli rabe. * Crispy & Light: The breading is never greasy; it's thin, golden, and provides the perfect crunch in every bite. Unbeatable Value and Atmosphere Despite the premium quality and the "Bronx-to-CT" logistics, the value here is incredible. You can find several of their least expensive--yet still massive--sandwiches (like the John Wayne or various parmigiana rolls) starting around $11.50 to $14.00, with many hearty heroes hovering right at that $15.00 mark. The service team is a well-oiled machine. They are fast, friendly, and carry that classic deli "swagger" that makes the atmosphere feel alive. It's loud, it's bustling, and it's unapologetically Italian.

When unloading one platter cracked with sandwiches falling to ground. Needed to throw away. Upon examination, noticed second platter was cracked as well. Deli notified of occurrence. Told that manager would be made aware and follow-up. Never heard back

Tried this deli for the first time…read more PARKING - while on a busy Main Street they have some parking spots available so you should be in good shape OUTSIDE - they have these tinted windows so from the outside you can't see the inside. One reason it took me so long to try AFFILIATION - I learned that this place is a second location for massiminos in Bridgeport which is a pretty Italian place in its own right ENTRANCE - as you come in you can see the main counter in the back. There are a few tables around if you want to sit and eat/drink coffee. AMBIANCE - it's a very clean and deli looking decor. DRY PRODUCTS - they have a small selection of Italian items from dried pasta to jarred sauces. Typical brands that you see in supermarkets or other Italian stores. There are a few imported from Italy brands but I'm no expert to say yea or nay PIZZA - they have at the counter a pizza station where you can a buy by the slice. They looked pretty good with a lot of variety. COFFEES - they have regular plus they make expresso, macchiatos, lattes etc. I tried the macchiato which was excellent PASTRY- they gave a few at the counter. The breakfast buns and treats. I noticed a crème pastry which I tried. It was OK but in reality the pastry part was super good but the inside crème would have been better if it was like a Boston cream filling SERVICE - definitely 5+ stars. The employees couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Very congenial with small talk. Not the usual cold QSR attitude you get from the fast food chains PRICES - I only got coffee and a pastry that was over $8. I'd say average or a little on the higher side but I didn't look at the menu on the screen too closely although it was a little difficult to see.

I'm going to be fair here and preface this with the fact that I haven't been back to this place in…read morequite some time. Nothing much has changed... it is still cash or check, which back in 2017 didn't really phase me... but I'm pretty surprised this hasn't changed. I knew the menu prices could never have been what they were nearly 7 years ago but I was surprised even when taking this into account. A chicken parm sandwich plus a peace tea (which really should be somewhere between $0.99 and $1.99) ended up at $18.35. I was totally floored. The $6 sandwich (+ toppings) has nearly tripled in price. $2 per extra topping? I really can't fathom $2 for a little bit of some topping (onions, peppers, whatever). I know things are different but it isn't like I've been under a rock for 7 years. A chicken parm grinder depending on where you go is about $8-$12. I can name 5 delis off the top of my head that can back this up. Let's get to the sandwich itself. It was bad. Way too much breading and soggy. So so soggy. This sandwich had been wrapped up for less than 10 minutes and I nearly pulled out a fork and knife to eat it. I'm so sad. I gave this place 5 stars before. I won't be returning I'm sorry to say. PS: He wasn't the nicest either. I know you don't work for free. But I do have a right to ask about the price.

I ordered from a small menu on the counter for 2 Porketa sandwiches with "Gravy". The owner asked…read moreif I wanted cheese and I said no. I was going next door and advised him I'd be back in about 10 minutes. He was ok with that. I picked up the sandwiches and paid "cash" for the sandwiches and went home to eat them. To my surprise there was "NO" gravy on them. I called to express my disappointment and he yelled at me and said, "I Asked you if you wanted cheese; which I had said no to. He yelled if I put anymore gravy in it probably would be I'm assuming to messy. I advised him there was NO gravy and the pork was so dry you could choke on it. If he was a fair business man he should have offered for me to come back and add gravy, instead he was yelling defensively. That set me off. I will include a photo for all to judge what you think and where the "Gravy" was!! I've lived in this town 49 years and have been there 3 times. Very defensive! I will NEVER go there again! What ever happened to common courtesy?....
