Based simply on the nursing staff, especially the overnight staff, this place is horrible. I've med…read moreone doctor, several therapists and other allied health professionals and either they were great or pretty good. But the first night I was here, the nurse assigned to me spoke minimal English and my knowledge of medical Spanish is non existent. I'm lucky we understood anything we had to say to each other. I had a CNA yesterday who gave me the talk to the hand gesture as she walked away and avoided me for hours because I misunderstood what she said so when I followed up, she was offended. Then she refused to deal with it professionally when I tried to explain we misunderstood each other. I was very careful to tell her "what I heard you say was..." and she took it to mean "you definitely said....". Implying I could have heard her wrong. I've been here since Tuesday evening (it is now Friday morning) and ever since I entered the hospital last Friday, I have been loudly self advocating to have all my medications given to me, not just some, at the right times and right doses. I've never had to work so hard in my life for that. Yesterday I ask for a certain medication only to be told I was given it on a previous shift. Don't dispute what I have to say. You weren't there. I wasn't offered it. I want it. They are arguing with me that I got it. I thought we finally got it straightened out for me to take it at 9 am. So, 5:15 this morning a woman is yelling at me to wake up, is upset with me then I am less than pleased, and denies I am supposed to get said med at 9. Ok, fine, maybe the med log wasn't updated. But she started yelling at me and is upset I got mad because she's yelling? And then she's yelling at me to stop yelling? And I just had it out with a CNA that was yelling so loud at another patient across the hall that I heard her in my room very clearly. It was the second time I heard someone yelling at him and telling him he is not allowed to get out of bed. It looked like she was pushing him down onto the bed. So I shouted at her to leave him alone. She said she isn't hurting him. I insisted she was being verbally abusive. She did t realize I could hear her across the way with my close. She came to explain herself to me and why she did it, as well as the CNA about a half hour before. In the process, she's telling me why it is an issue that he shouldn't be getting out of bed. HIPAA has been violated- I know too much about his medical issues. Update: Just spoke with the social worker. When I asked how often the doctor showed up, he said he couldn't remember if it was every month or every two months. And he agreed it was quite possible I could leave here without ever seeing him. That is absolutely ridiculous.

Absolute Inhumanity - Filthy, Neglectful, and Unsafe…read more I would give this place zero stars if I could. My mother was transferred here on a Friday night following major ankle surgery, and it was a living nightmare from the second she arrived. The facility is filthy, unsanitary, and has a foul, terrible smell. From the moment they put her in a bed, she felt completely unsafe and uneasy. She was in agonizing pain and cried all night long, but the staff and nurses completely ignored her. They would literally walk past her room and refuse to acknowledge her or her situation. No one even bothered to write her name on the board by her door. There is zero communication; the supervisor had absolutely no idea what the nursing staff was actually doing--or in this case, not doing. She had to place some sheets under her foot so she elevate her ankle because once again no one even bothered to assist her. There is absolutely no care, compassion, or humanity in this building. It is disgusting, inhumane, and it breaks my heart that my mother had to endure even one night here before I immediately pulled her out. This facility should be ashamed of themselves and needs to be shut down. No human being should ever be subjected to this kind of neglect. Horrible nightmare of a place.

Name change: North Dade Nursing and Rehab…read more This nursing home has gotten somewhat better over time but still needs a lot of improvement. Regardless, I would not place a loved one here and would rather some of my clients be placed anywhere but here, but alas, there is not enough space at others to move them out. This is a last resort for me and also one of the only nursing homes that accepts just about anyone. In fact, it actually looks more like a psychiatric facility than a nursing home. It is a locked down facility, so you are only able to get in and out with a pass code. There is always someone attending to the door to make sure no residents elope. Residents are usually 2 to 4 to a room, depending on the room size and if you pay a private pay. There are activities throughout the day: including church services, and therapy. There's a big dining room and a small patio area for residents to go outside and smoke. The patio area doesn't have any plants or anything though; it's literally a block of concrete with a small tent in the middle for the sun. This facility is also affiliated with Larkin, which has recently gotten into trouble with fraud, among other things. I personally haven't had any issues with staff or any under the table things but am aware that there has been in the past. I have worked personally with Shirelle and Hollie in social services, and they have been absolutely wonderful and have helped with everything I have ever needed. They are a great team! Unfortunately, nurses are constantly leaving; there is a lot of turnover so the rapport I build is always cut short when new staff comes in. Many times residents are left unattended for hours at a time and only get care when you ask for it; even then it takes more than 20 minutes for a nurse to show up. I do believe that they are overwhelmed, but with the amount of residents living there, Medicare/Medicaid, and private pay, they can afford to hire more staff. Even though they are understaffed, if a patient needs help or has gone on themselves, they should be attended to in a timely manner so as not to experience any pungent odors throughout the facility. Sometimes the odors are so strong, I have a hard time staying for more than 15 minutes, I can only imagine for the staff and for the residents how awful it must be.

They have a great therapy department, therapist are knowledgeable with exercises and teaching their patients how to get stronger. I highly recommend this facility for rehab.

I would not refer this facility to anyone, and family who do have family members their please check…read morein on them, the morning CNA's are inconsiderate of the residence needs, their some CNA's in the evening shift which are really caring. The Assistance Director on Nursing to me is not caring especially if you call and try to complain how your family member is being treated, this person do not even bother to return calls. The have a Social worker their who says if you have any situations call me, she do not return calls either. The type of food being given be it breakfast or dinner should be monitored half of the time the vegetables is totally dente, some of the meat is uncuttable, I dont understand why would you give ham or turkey meat then give a butter knife for it to be cut, you would think they would pre slice the meat for the residence who have difficulties with the strength in their hands. Their needs to be some changes in this facility, their favorite response when you complaint about one of the CNA"s we'll do more training i would think when they are hired should no how to care for the residence in a NH.
