In town from Iowa for a girls trip and this was the first stop. Here's what we ordered: - 3 taco meal - torta - 3 quesadilla meal - horchata - jamaica - mango Food was super flavorful and a good portion size for the price. Rosa, who took our order, was wonderful. She was very patient with my petty attempt at spanish! Drinks were fresh and very tasty as well. We got our food right away and everything came out as ordered. I was excited to run across Pineda on Lake street during my lunch break. I had frequented a Pineda Taco in Plymouth (not sure if they are affiliated) when I worked nearby so it was a welcome site near my new office. Ordering was easy as someone who used to enjoy the double decker taco supreme at Taco Bell I chose the tacos bravos. Protein selection was good with multiple options for beef, chicken, pork in various sauces. I loved the chipotle chicken and pork. A few of the Beef options were a bit bizarre foods for me. Service was fast and friendly. You get a bag of homemade tortilla chips with your meal. They also have a small salsa bar which was excellent. My only complaint was that a few chunks of pork were a bit fatty and grisly. I will definitely be back though as their pazole caught my eye. read more

I had heard about this place from a few coworkers when I was in town for a work trip. They recommended it for being a quick spot to go to for decently authentic food. Some coworkers and I decided to stop in on a weekday at lunch hour. While this place doesn't have the most modern or flashy decor, it offers a large amount of space to accommodate many working people in the area at a busy lunch hour. The menu boards and signage could use some more detail; however, there isn't much that you'll have to figure out if you use Google or simply ask the employees a few questions. This place seems to be family-owned, which I greatly appreciate. It gives it a more authentic/homey feel. This spot is more of a fast casual dining location. You order and pay at the register and wait until your order number is called out. After taking some time to look at the options, I went for a #8 Combo: 3 Tacos Bravos. One option I absolutely loved was the ability to get multiple types of meat in one combo order. I tried 2 types of chicken and one beef option since my order had 3 tacos. In addition the the meat filling, the combo comes with generous amounts of toppings including sour cream, fresh salsa, and cheese. I also thought the price was pretty fair, offering a large amount of food for about $15. My order took less than 10 minutes to be called out, which I thought was a reasonable amount of time. It also came with a complimentary side of freshly fried tortilla chips. There were a nice addition considering there is an unlimited self-serve salsa bar with plenty of salsa accompaniments for the chips. While I've had a lot of Mexican and also Tex-Mex food before, the Tacos Bravos concept was very neat. The outside is a soft taco shell that essentially gets "glued" to a crispy taco shell with a thin layer of refried beans. In addition to very fresh shells, all of the filling options were delicious. Both the Grilled Chicken (Pollo Asado) and Chicken Chipotle (Pollo en Chipotle) were very high quality. Despite having plenty of toppings the chicken flavors and seasoning still stood out. The Steak (Asada) was grilled very well without being too dry. The extensive variety of salsas and sauces also added a nice touch to the meal. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. I honestly had low expectations for the authenticity of a place like this in Minneapolis; I can gladly say or proved me wrong. While it left me with a pretty bad post-lunch slump, the quality and portions for what your dollar gets you here are great. read more

Pineda is great. This is close to my workplace and it's very rare to go here and not see anybody you know. Right next to the register, there's a self serve salsa/topping bar where you can help yourself to a variety of different salsas and toppings (limes, onions, cilantro, etc.) My favorite things to get here are the taco salad and chimichanga. Most meals here are priced around $10ish, which is well worth because the portions will definitely fill you up! read more

This place is very authentic, if one knows Spanish they can order in Spanish, it's that kinda place. I really enjoyed their enchiladas combo. The chips are really good nice and crunch and not to salty, the salsa are good but be careful they are spicy. The inside is nothing special but that's not why you go it's to eat and try to pretend like you are in Mexico. They have a fairly good tacos a little dry in my option but they have a lot of meat options which I like. Their horchata is some of my favorite in town so that is a must get if you go! I like Pineda a lot. The ambience is great and the service is friendly and fast. I had a steak burrito. I must say the steak looks different than at Chipotle or other Mexican/American restaurants. It was not diced but grounded almost like hamburger. Not fully grounded bur like partially grounded.The server said this is the way they make steak in Mexico. I have had authentic Mexican food for before and this was comparable to most of them. I am guessing until I go down to Mexico and have truly authentic Mexican food then I can't really compare it to anything else but the places ran by Mexicans.The food was fresh, the flavors were on point and the price for the burritos and tacos were right. I did try a Mexican drink which I think was made from rice and in my opinion was not worth the four dollars I paid for it. I believe it's called horchata .I am sure it's an acquired taste, however it could've tasted better and not have costed so much. The tacos were and I say that as a California native. They beans and rice were good too. The carne Asada was tough and average.

First and foremost, the store inside is quite ugly. As of this review, bright lime green walls with fall decorations scattered across. I guess this doesn't matter too much but I have other problems, the prices, I mean they charge extra for everything! They started selling a Lunch special which comes with a Tiger burrito, a bag of chips and a soda, they charge an extra dollar for jumex.. okay.. 2 extra dollars for fries on every other combo and a dollar for avocados and so on. On top of all this, whoever is making those burritos clearly does not try their own creations as they put any liquid ingredients (sour cream) in one spot and that's enough for them. It is not pleasant to bite down into a pocket of sour cream. Most recently I was charged $14.24 for something i have ordered, I check my account balance and they rounded it up to $15. I never agreed to tip, donate or anything at all. The only reason I give it a rating of 2 stars instead of 1 is because at least the food is edible and as long as you don't decide to want fries, avocado and jumex in one order, it would come out to be fairly priced. On second thought, I am changing my rating to 1 star as nobody looks at 2 stars review and I feel the need to inform anybody who decides to come here about what goes on consistently. read more

After protesting for five hours or so, which consisted of walking from East Lake and Hiawatha to Augsburg and back, I worked up a monster appetite. Luckily, I found Pineda Tacos not too far away from where I parked, on my walk to the protest rally point. The menu is pretty disorganized, and, I couldn't for the life of me find any menu item with the word "taco" in it. (Perhaps, I was really tired.) Anyways, I was about to utter "dos tacos al pastor y carnitas" to the staff member behind the counter, until I saw this sheet of paper taped on the wall that said "carnitas special." So I ordered that and a torta milanesa for my boo, too. #impulsivebuysarethebestbuys I got my number, sat down in one of the booths, and only waited for about five minutes before I got my order. Carnitas Special: Not sure how long this baby is around, but for the most part, it's delicious. I'm not sure what cut of beef they used for this plate, but it's topped with some caramelized onions and complemented with refried beans and orange rice. I wish the carnitas were more tender and broken apart, but it didn't make it any less delicious! (Especially with the spicy verde sauce.) Eventually, after my plastic knife failed to cut this sucker, I cave-manned this hunk of beef aka ripped it to shreds with my own two hands. #sorrynotsorry #icarrysanitizer Torta Milanesa: I swear I planned on giving my girl the torta, but after I learned that she had eaten dinner after a quick chat on the phone and my belly still grumbled, I devoured this thang, too. First time here. Ordered à chicken mole takeout burrito. Burritos are on sale now in January 2015 for $4.99. Not réal favorable even burrito maker reheated chicken mole meat in the microwave in styropfoam no less. The burrito maker puts tortilla on a hot grill which is neat. Stopped in here for the first time on Friday night based on good word of mouth from friends and the close proximity to our house. We ordered the chicken enchiladas combo and taco salad combo. Food was pretty good, but the restaurant was FILTHY. Like, "this tastes good but I'm sure I'm going to become violently ill in the next 12 hours" filthy. The salsa bar was particularly suspect and looked like it had been set out the previous day. Lots of fruit flies everywhere. In that regard, hell yeah it's authentic Mexican. ;p Neither one of us ended up getting sick, other than some wicked acid reflux. I had to have tacos last night so I made my Mexican friends take me to an authentic place. We've checked out the place next door, La Hacienda, but Pineda has bigger tacos and gives you more meat. It's a small dive with a few booths. I got an alambre with chipotle pork. The meat was so tender and flavorful but there were a lot of fatty pieces. The side of rice and beans was good but they don't give you a lot of it. The salsas were not as spicy as I would have liked and the bag of chips had so few chips! But overall, I would come back here for the entrees over other places for sure. read more

The place was a little run down, but bright, open and clean. The man behind the counter was friendly and helpful and suggested many foods before I settled on the carne asada. All in all, the tacos were delicious. The meat was fresh and well seasoned, tortillas were made just right and the service was very friendly.
