Classic WI supper club with a beautiful lake view. Our server, Lydia, was on point; not rushed, but timely. The crab cake was loaded with crab and lightly coated with a zesty tartar sauce. My husband had the baked French onion soup which he really enjoyed; savory yet light. The king cut prime rib followed and made it worth the trip. I had the seared sea scallops. They were tender and the garlic butter was well balanced as to not overpower. A small birthday dessert was brought by Lydia making it the perfect finish to a perfect evening. I came here for dinner one year ago today, 15 June 2023. I was by myself - my parents were buried together earlier that day, and Pinewood had been their favourite restaurant for decades. I wanted to honour them and feel close to them, and Pinewood provided a lovely experience. I started with the simply listed "Prosecco". It turned out to be a split of La Marca, which was my mum's favourite. I was also served a mini version of their relish tray, crudités with green goddess dressing. Before my entrée arrived, I was served a green salad. Though I'd just polished off the vegetable tray and I wanted to save room for my main course, I ate most of the salad, as it looked so refreshing and the dressing was excellent. A hot, soft dill dinner roll came with the salad. I ordered the blackened cajun salmon, Oscar-style (topped with shrimp and bearnaise, served atop steamed asparagus). It came with mango chutney and nicely flavoured jasmine rice. I also had a glass of merlot with my main course. It was all absolutely amazing. My server was outstanding. She was pleasant and efficient, but she also could tell I was upset and was very comforting. She went above and beyond with her kindness and exceptional service. This was one of the best meals I have ever had. There's no way to say this without sounding like a pain in the ass, but I've lived in Los Angeles for 17 years and have travelled extensively around the country and Europe, and this dinner experience is in my top five of all time. I'll never be in Wisconsin again, but I'll always be thankful to Pinewood for giving my parents so many years of happy experiences, and giving me a pleasant memory during the most difficult time. read more

We had reservations for Friday night at 7 p.m. and the place was packed!! The acoustics in the dining room were poor--it was really hard to hear your dining companions and you could feel the floor bounce as other patrons and waitstaff walked around the table. We ordered the relish tray and hand dipped basket for starters. I know $4.99 is a nominal amount, but the relish tray was quite stingy as far as the variety of veggies on it and the number (for example, not even one green onion per person, etc.). The clam chowder soup and french onion soups were both flavorful and satisfying. Our entrees were the cracker crusted walleye, 18 oz. Kansas City strip, chicken & broccoli fettuccini alfredo, and chicken carbonara. The only dish that was bad was the carbonara. The walleye and alfredo were both delicious, and the strip steak was perfectly seared and seasoned but it did come out more well-done instead of medium like I ordered. Plan ahead and make a reservation. Overheard that the wait was 1 hour on a Friday night. This lovely little spot on the lake mixes bustling traditional supper club with a serene setting. The staff is incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. This comes in handy when navigating the menu and many options and sides. There is the more traditional steakhouse fare and then some clever takes on those items. I wasn't crazy about the fry basket appetizer - the cheese curds were good but the cauliflower, mushrooms, and onion rings lacked a ton of flavor. For the main, I opted for the haddock fish fry with Italian breading. The fish perfectly crunchy in the outside and deliciously flaky on the inside. The French fries also had a nice crisp. And I really enjoyed the thick and light rye bread slices and tartar sauce. Well worth the stop and can't wait to go back soon. read more

In town to visit family and spend my 60th bday with them. I moved from in town to St. Louis in 1984, and that was the last time I went to Pinewood. Not sure why.... When I was in Wausau on a business trip, it was suggested to me that I should try the Pinewood Supper Club. Despite the blowing snow, it was worth the drive into the country to eat there on 17NOV2022. I was greeted warmly and seated immediately when I arrived at 5:30 pm. My waitress was both very nice and efficient. My bill said the waitress was Melissa, but I thought her name was Shannon. Whatever her name, she made my dinner pleasant. I had 2 crab Rangoons, which were all crab meat and huge, so I should have gone with 1 because I was alone. The relish plate was a nice appetizer. I had the chicken Oscar, which was a huge chicken breast lightly battered and fried on asparagus with 2 shrimp and bearnaise sauce. The fried stuffed baked potato was perfect. The prices were very reasonable considering I could have eaten 2 meals with all the food they brought to my table. read more

We were traveling to Wausau on business and always love the chance to explore a new Wisconsin Supper Club. Pinewood did not disappoint! The restaurant has a lovely setting on a lake. We did not have reservations on a Tuesday night and were seated promptly. Our table had a nice view of the lake. The restaurant was fairly full on a weekend which means it's good! We started with brandy old fashioned sours which were made perfectly. It was a nice touch that bread and a relish try with home made dip were brought to the table and included with entrees. Also included is soup or salad. We opted for salads with house made ranch. For entrees, we gad the halibut Oscar and a seafood dish made with shrimp, scallops and mushrooms. Both were delicious! For dessert we shared a traditional ice cream drink- a Golden Cadillac. After dinner we took a little stroll to the lake. It was a lovely meal. We look forward to our next visit. read more

Birthday dinner at The Pinewood Supper Club in Mosinee, WI last night. We've been there several times over the years and it never disappoints. I had the ribeye with baked potato, my daughter had the Fresh Grilled Atlantic Salmon, my son had the Chicken and Broccoli Fettuccine Alfredo and my husband the 1/2 lb burger. We had cheese curds and calamari for appetizers. My Korbel Old Fashioned Press was good too! The house salad was full of veggies; fresh greens, black olive, red onion, carrot, croutons, red pepper, cherry tomatoes. From the menu: "Dinner includes: relish tray with homemade vegetable dip, homemade soup or tossed garden salad, dinner rolls and choice of potato: baked, cheese puff or french fries" Our server was very nice and knowledgeable. We've been to the Pinewood one other time. This visit shows the consistency of the food quality and service levels. The food and service were great in this visit. I had the Cracker Crusted Walleye and my wife had the 14oz NY Strip. We shared where we could both enjoy both meals. The walleye was incredible. Maybe the best I've had. As a first time customer, I can not adequately express my disappointment. It was obvious the restaurant has it's regular customers and they take priority. The server brought the main course without clearing the empty appetizer plates cluttering our table. After she left we moved the empty plates to the next table. The vegetables were cold and the steak tasted of spoiled meat (past its expiration). It was disgusting and couldn't be eaten. I decided to pay the bill and leave quietly. But the server wouldn't have it and made a scene by loudly questioned the tip in front of other customers. I confirmed the amount and attempted to leave. The server followed us to door pressing for a bigger tip for the poor quality food and service. I left quietly. Our total bill (including the bar) was just under $200. Definitely NOT WORTH it, and can not recommend the pinewood. read more

We wanted our out of state guests to have a true Wisconsin supper club experience, and the Pinewood turned out to be a very good choice. The dining room offers peaceful views of the Wisconsin River below a lush green lawn dotted with mature trees. Service was prompt and attentive, and we appreciated the honesty of your 23-year-old waitress, who said she didn't have enough experience to recommend a wine. Our guests split a tenderloin with a baked potato and a generous serving of mushrooms. My wife had shrimp Marsala, and I selected broiled walleye with wild rice. We were all pleased with our choices. I noticed my friend cutting his steak with his butter knife - it was that tender. True supper clubs serve a "relish tray" with fresh vegetables and a dip. We hardly touched it because the salads that came first were so large and expertly assembled. After dinner the women enjoyed brandy Alexanders. I had Kahlua on the rocks and my old friend sampled a local beer. Brandy or beer are two very popular beverages in Wisconsin. This was a relatively expensive but completely enjoyable evening. This quite possibly could have been the worst supper club I've ever eaten at. I order the ribeye with a baked potato and salad. The salad came out first and was enough to feed 4 people. Then out came my so called ribeye. At first glance it looked like a pot roast. It was so thick and tough I could barely cut it. I ordered it medium rare and it came out cold and raw in the middle. They used absolutely zero seasonings. It was clearly not a ribeye. Just a boot leather tough piece of beef. So then I tried my wife's filet and it was the same thing. Zero seasonings and just bland. The waitstaff was nice but very pushy. Started clearing the table while we were still eating. Took a plate of fries from my daughter that she was still eating. It's also so dark in there you have a hard time reading the menu. We had to use the flashlights from our phones to see anything. Just a bad bad experience. We went here on a Tuesday evening for my wife's birthday. Had a brief wait which was perfect as we time to enjoy a couple old fashions which were excellent. Nice bar with a curved end which we were able sit at and allowed easy conversation four the four of us. The dining room is kind of split and we were in the first area close to the kitchen, that was not a distraction, we didn't hear any "kitchen noise" nor an abundance of traffic. We were seated right by a big window over looking the lake. Although it's very early in the year we did see an otter swimming back and forth a couple times. The far dining area has multiple large windows overlooking the lake. Great setting. I'm sorry I don't remember our servers name but she was excellent. Great knowledge of the menu, and attentive but not distracting. The food was excellent. We did over order, as we had an appetizer, the blooming onion, which huge and very tasty. You get a small veggie tray and fresh rolls. Three of us ordered the baked French onion soup. If you do this make sure to order the crock. It comes with a puff pastry and without question is the best I've ever had. The meals also came with a huge salad which was fresh with all the toppings and homemade dressings. We all ordered different items from chicken fettuccine, scallops, and two different types of steak. They all very generous portions, prepared just as ordered, and everyone enjoyed their selection very much. Also we all took home enough for another meal. The waitress brought my wife a complimentary browning al'amode with a candle, even though we couldn't possibly consider any other desserts, which sounded fabulous. Pinewood supper club is a great place. The atmosphere on Half Moon Lake is beautiful and the food is wonderful. There is plenty of seating at the bar. Our waitress, Jacky, was friendly and helpful. It is a great place to go with family. My husband had the prime rib and it was done perfectly. I had the crab stuffed shrimp and the flavor of the crab did not over power the shrimp. We ended up at Pinewood because the supper club we were intending to go to was closed. On a Saturday night, we were not able to eat at the bar but they did have lounge seating in a glass walled off area adjacent to the bar. They had a good wine selection and the suppler club has a nice lake location. There is a path behind the restaurant where you can walk down to the lake, but beware, on the night I did so I was viciously attached by mosquitos. I ordered the special, the blackened Coulette steak topped with Bleu cheese and green onions and it was incredible. I only ate half and was really looking forward to having the other half for lunch later in the week, but alas there was no fridge in our hotel room and even though I tried to keep it on ice it got too warm. Weeks later I am still thinking about the half steak I lost. So sad. I also got to try my husband's French onion soup which was topped with puff pastry, and I would put it in the top five French onion soups I've ever had. For my salad, I went with one of their homemade dressings, thousand island, and it was unique and delicious. Mr. R ordered the mysterious cheese puff, and I found that it didn't live up to my expectations. It reminded me of a big hush puppy. Our server checked on us several times and was prompt. The atmosphere and music in the dining lounge was a bit more modern than I prefer, but I didn't get to check out the main dining room. I think it was a little more rustic, and I'm sure the view was lovely. If I was in the Wausau/Mosinee area again with a hankering for steak, I would definitely come back to Pinewood Supper Club. read more

Liked the big pieces of grilled bread to dip in the garlic butter remnants. - Soup or salad included: nice to see some things included since a lot of places do a la carte these days. - French onion soup: if you order it as a starter and not as an option with your meal, you get a big bowl with a huge puffy pastry top. - Wine list: glass list is just ok but surprisingly decent bottle list--especially the reserves with some very good California wineries showing up there. I ordered a glass of zin and got white zinfandel :-O Not a problem but kind of funny. Note to self: red zin isn't big in this beer state. - Service: they managed our large family party well and let me make my own combination which I appreciated. - Lighter side menu: nice that they have the option and there is one salad, but kind of comical since rib eye steak sandwich and seafood quesadilla are on there too :-O Lowlights (my flip side to highlights): - Scallops: bit small and rubbery; not super fresh tasting. Appreciate them being sauteed and not fried, however. - Martinis: liked that they offered them but they were a bit too sweet and kind of off in taste. Normally a pleasant venue for a celebratory meal, we found we'd ordered the wrong thing this night: our ribeye steaks came out painted black for the "Pittsburgh style" and a grey looking medium rare. There was no crispy browning on the edges, just limp, fat, very much like uncooked bacon. Very disappointing from a professional kitchen. The more so when you have done a better job at home, using a cast iron frying pan. The three stars are for our friendly servers and the lovely ambiance. read more
