Novato is not complete without Pini's. We've been shopping here ever since we moved here in the late 90s (starting at their last location in downtown). We have an ongoing shopping list for Pini's all the time, and come visit them even when we don't have anything we need urgently -- because it's fun to come here. It's a go-to place for any home improvement projects, paints, gardening needs, lighting, cleaning -- pretty much everything non-food stuff! We find lots of neat kitchenware too (my favorite isle). I love coming here for Halloween and other Holiday seasons for decorations. The huge difference between Pini's and the big-box stores like Home Depot/Lowe's is that at Pini's the help is easy to get. All the store staff will ask you if they can help, and most everyone knows everything. You won't get stranded. I can't tell you how nice that is. read more

Went in to get a smart key for may van. The guy behind the counter showed me one at $100. I was a little sticker shocked. Then he said if you find the correct one then you can bring it in and they can still cut and program. So after purchasing the EXACT same key on Amazon for $14 I called to make an appointment to have it done. Only to be told that They aren't doing it anymore. Classic one hand not knowing what the other hand was doing. Still wasn't going to purchase a $100 key. I think they changed their policy just because their "smart" key mark-up wasn't working. Not very helpful to the average working person either. I've been going to Pini since they were downtown and always felt I could rely on them for things like this. Sad to think I can't. Oh I'll still go there for things, as they are pretty much the only game in town, but my respect for them has gone down a bit. read more

I went in to Pini on two separate occasions. One for a fountain repair, and the other a faucet and irrigation repair. With the fountain repair, Jim was incredibly helpful and found a solution to my fountain problem. On the way out at the cash register was Stephanie, who, as I was a few cents short, took money out of her pocket to pay. Amazing, especially during these times of everyone on edge and in bad moods. Every time I go to this ACE location I am always walking out with answers and the items I was seeking. Their service is excellent and they have plenty of employees available to help. When things are starting to look a vintage yellowish-brown or classic brownish-yellow on that toilet seat in your cheapass parents' bathroom, its time to be a good a son and upgrade that shit...no pun intended ;) Pini Ace has a wide variety of toilet seats from $13-60+. I scored a sturdy, comfy, large toilet seat here for $19.99, a real deal considering how much time my Dad will spending on that thing. The old man can easily spend 30-60+ minutes on that white throne when he's got the Sunday paper or iPad in hand. I could've spend $50+ on a nicer toilet seat with heated faux-leather padding, but then my Dad would be in there forever, and I love my Mom too much to put her through that. I've moved to the area and have been tinkering on my house. This place seems to be a staple in the neighborhood and I can see why! The staff have always been super helpful and kind over the past few months. Recently I purchased an item online and it was too big to fit in my car. I was going to come back another day with a truck, but they offered to drop it off since I wasn't too far. So kind! I felt guilty but they said it wasn't a problem. They also maintain a list of professionals in the area: plumbers, handy men; etc that has been useful to us on several occasions. Parking is good during the week. Came here on June 27, 2018 about 4:45. The cashier on #4 at 5:00pm was seriously one of the nicest cashiers I've ever met. Very kind, got me to sign up for rewards, and had pleasantries to discuss. Pini's is well-respected in our community. I've been going there for decades. But when I went in to have a couple keys duplicated yesterday I lost a lot of respect for the store. I had 2 keys I needed to have copied, a house key for our home and another one for a condo where my sister-in-law lives. I looked around the store for about 3 minutes before going back to get my keys. After paying for the new keys, I went home and tried the house key. The house key did not work. No big deal. After you have duplicates made the new keys may have minor problems. You just go back to the store and ask for a new copy. But "my" key which I gave the employee did not work either. It had been replaced by another key. And my new house key was a copy of the replacement. I returned to the store with a house key we keep with a neighbor and a Pini's employee did make 2 house key copies for me. But no one at the store could explain how the key to our house disappeared. And to make sure no one is walking around with our house key, I am going to have to buy a couple new deadbolt locks for the home. read more

The best customer service i have ever seen , they are helpful and stand behind their products. I went to buy umbrella base again because the last one i purchased from them last 6-7 months. I wasn't expecting that i can return or get a refund for it...but it happened. I brought the broken base and they replaced with new one .. took me less than 5 min. We have been using Pini Hardware for our hardware needs for over 20 years and they have yet to disappoint. They have friendly knowledgeable staff and a good selection of hardware. We've been shopping at Pini Hardware in Novato for over 30 years since we moved here and it's hard to find a lot to complain about. The selection is pretty good for a local hardware store and the employees are always available to help and are generally very knowledgeable. Of course on some items you can find much better pricing at Lowe's or Home Depot or online but that's missing the whole point. When I need a hex head metric screw, a tool to complete some job I'm working on, or getting a key made, driving to Petaluma or San Rafael and spending 30 minutes wandering around a big box store trying to find something is a waste of time. And if you watch their specials on certain items you can pick up some great deals. read more

Pini is great. Good selection, knowledgeable staff, really nice store. Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is their wood pellet (for smokers) selection. It's nearly all Traegar which is garbage quality to be frank. Traegar pellets are nearly all scrap wood with flavoring and a small amount of the wood type labeled on the front. I've heard Traegar stiff arms retailers into mainly carrying their products, but it would be nice to see a more varied selection of higher quality wood pellets. I did pick up the other brand they carry which claims to be pure almond/plum wood, we'll see how that goes. read more

Love this store . So silly , but it's stocked well & have the best and most helpful staff . We just attended a big Green egg event , surprisingly informative and fun . Kitchen wares , plumbing , lighting , plants , paint , keys , locks , many cleaning / finishing products . Electrical items , Tools Many Grills , pits , Green Egg items , accessories and other essentials . As others said , it's the service , the advise & the way the staff interact with each other , they are customer driven . Funny , a hardware store would feel so welcoming & exciting , but this one does . I also love the location in larkspur , " Corbet's " Ace as well, great store , not quite as fun as Pini . Hats off to the buyers & the managers that hire such good people , and retain them . And bring in a wide variety and quality merchandise You guys are making it happen !!
