Jacob (reddish bearded guy?) in the paint dept. needs to be promoted - or given a raise, or both. Today we brought a large piece of chipped paint that peeled from our house to get a match paint color. The first guy put the piece in the matching machine and made our paint. It was too dark. So then he tried again - this time it didn't match at all. His solution - "oh well - that the best we can do." I asked if the machine was broken - we've never had this problem before. The first guy just shrugged and said it wasn't gonna be perfect. It wasn't even close! He basically said - take it or leave it. So I asked for a manager - first guy just wasn't capable of problem solving. Jacob heard and came over, took a look, knew exactly how much white to add to the first can - and boom...perfect match. Home Depot - if you lose your "Jacob", you're stuck with "the first guy" who makes $100 worth of bad paint that will eventually end up on the discount shelf. And you also lose customers. Jacob needs to train, he needs to be promoted, he needs to be a decision maker. We're tired of the first guy. The "take it or leave it"guy. The shrugging guy. Please retrain him to be like Jacob. Horrible experience. I purchased a refrigerator/freezer from Home Depot and was specifically told that it came with an ice maker. When the appliance arrived, it did not have one. I then had to order the ice maker separately--even though I had already paid for installation on the original refrigerator receipt. Now Home Depot is telling me that they do not install the ice maker and has referred me to its "Pro Referral" service to find someone else to do it. This is insane. I relied on the information Home Depot gave me, paid for installation, and still ended up without an installed ice maker. Home Depot should take responsibility for what its employees promised and the installation service I already paid for--not pass me off to another company. read more

I had an excellent experience with new kitchen and bathroom countertops with Yen Pester in kitchen/bathroom design and the contractor Valley Tile Install Services in January 2026. I went into the store on January 2nd with measurements and told Yen what I was looking for. She quickly calculated an estimate for quartz countertops that was very reasonable priced. I purchased new kitchen and bathroom sinks while I was in the store. Valley Tile Install reached out to me the next week to schedule the template appointment on January 15th, and I got everything installed by an awesome team (led by Danny Aguilera) on January 30th. I can understand why Home Depot has only two stars on Yelp. I went to Home Depot on a Sunday and purchased a washing machine. The salesman was very nice. We needed this machine to assist with the care of an elderly person in need of 24/7 care. Home Depot promised a Thursday delivery. On Thursday we received an email that the delivery had been rescheduled to Tuesday the following week. When I called customer service, I was told the delivery vendor failed to pick up the washer for delivery. This was very problematic for us, we needed it to care for 95 year old grandma. I had no faith that the washer would be delivered on Tuesday, so I went to a local appliance store yesterday, and they just delivered the washer at noon today. I returned to Home Depot and returned their washer for a refund. The refund went smoothly. The value at the local appliance store was &200 cheaper and better customer service. The situation was resolved by me having to return the item and purchase it at a competitive store. The response is AI and consistent with Home Depot's poor customer service. Miguel O. helped me during a recent Home Depot visit, and I felt compelled to leave a review because he was truly exceptional. I've been a regular Home Depot customer since we bought our home about a year and a half ago, and while I've always found the staff helpful, Miguel stands out as the most helpful employee I've ever worked with. I'm currently in the middle of my largest DIY project to date: adding cabinet boxes and shelving to all of our existing kitchen cabinets. The project required purchasing several large sheets of plywood, understanding the differences between them, and figuring out the most efficient and accurate way to have everything cut. Miguel supported me through every step of the process. He helped me select the right materials, handled a significant amount of the board cutting, and when he needed to step away to assist other customers, he made sure I was seamlessly taken care of by Trevor (who was great too!) so I was never left unsure of what to do next. Beyond his technical knowledge, Miguel brought such a positive, optimistic attitude to the experience. He was patient, thorough, and genuinely enjoyable to work with. I had the best experience at Home Depot in San Rafael today. Usually when I come into Home Depot, I have a really hard time finding people to help me and give me accurate information. Today I walked in looking for a small piece of flooring, The person in the department let me know that didn't have the size that I wanted but he went out of his way to find me an affordable alternative. He was thorough, quick and friendly throughout the whole process. If you are looking for flooring and are hesitant to go to Home Depot for it, I would suggest going down to speak with Michael in the flooring department. He's the best! read more

Title: Incomplete delivery, avoidable delay, and a lesson for customers I ordered plants and potting mix for a small landscaping project and paid for delivery so I wouldn't need to visit the store. On the delivery date, the driver arrived without the potting mix. He confirmed it had not been loaded onto the truck and documented this at the time. This left me with live plants that could not be planted as intended. Anyone who gardens will understand that delays like this are not trivial--plants don't sit indefinitely without risk. When I contacted customer support, I was initially told that the delivery fee could not be refunded because some items had been delivered. That position didn't reflect the fact that the order--and the service I paid for--were incomplete. Only after pushing back was the situation resolved and a refund issued. My takeaway is simple: * The issue itself was straightforward and avoidable * The initial response made it more complicated than it needed to be * If you find yourself in a similar situation, it's worth calmly insisting on a fair outcome--because you may not be offered one initially In the end, the matter was resolved, but it required more effort than it should have for a basic delivery error. Update (in response to Home Depot's reply): Thank you for the response. I clearly stated in the review that the matter had already been resolved with a refund, so this reply doesn't appear to address the situation described. The issue was not the delivery error itself, but how it was initially handled. An item I had paid for was not loaded onto the truck, leaving the delivery incomplete. I was told the missing item could not be delivered later, and at the same time that the delivery fee could not be refunded because other items had been delivered. That combination is difficult to reconcile. This led to an unnecessary back-and-forth before the position was eventually changed and the refund issued. Potential future customers should be aware that getting Home Depot to fulfil their contractual responsibilities can be a long and laborious process. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with Home Depot and JW Floor Covering has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing from start to finish. The project began with a faulty installation of LifeProof flooring that lifted and felt uneven. After months of trying to get the issue resolved, replacement flooring was ordered and delivered. However, after six full weeks of those materials sitting in my living room, I was suddenly told that JW Floor Covering would not install the flooring I had chosen and paid for. As of tomorrow, it will be seven weeks with over 60 planks of Home Depot solid wood flooring still stacked in my living room. JW Floor Covering has refused to install what was ordered, will not pick up the material, will not cancel the contract, and instead insists that we choose an entirely different type of flooring--which was never part of our agreement. Throughout this entire process, communication has been terrible. Emails and voicemails have gone unanswered for over a week at a time. The project has dragged on for more than nine months with constant delays, poor coordination, and zero accountability. The workmanship of the initial install was substandard, and the repeated lack of timelines or support has left me feeling completely abandoned as a customer. At this point, I cannot recommend Home Depot's flooring installation services or JW Floor Covering to anyone. The lack of professionalism, follow-through, and customer care has been unacceptable. I wanted to write a review of a customer service representative at Home Depot in San Rafael called Jamie. He always massively helps me out whenever I go into the store. He's an older gentleman usually hanging out around the plumbing area. And the last time I went there, he literally took me through a part for part review of how I needed to replace the shower at my unit at home. We went round, and he patiently took me through every single piece that I needed to get. And I went home, and he was 100% correct. And the job worked brilliantly because he guided me through, and there was absolutely nothing missing. And there were things he thought about and ideas he had that were absolutely brilliant that I would never have thought about. It's absolutely amazing that Jamie's working at Home Depot. He's so skilled, it's like talking to a contractor. And he's so incredibly helpful. He actually comes over and asks you if you need any help. What is the hiring process like here? Literally no one wants to help you. And if you return something, even with a receipt it's like the Spanish Inquisition about what is wrong and why - it's brand new in the package, I have proof of purchase and want my money back. We had the absolute worst experience with Home Depot, to whom we paid $20,000 to update our kitchen. First of all, they offer a 12-month interest-free financing, but the financing begins the day you order, not when the work actually begins. Our work began six months after the order, and it took three months to complete, so the 12-month financing offer is a fraud. Secondly, 10 different contractors were doing the work, and they never lined up, so the work too forever to finish. On top of that, we ordered some of the materials from Home Depot, and they were subpar. The chrome faucets, for example, had discoloration after 3 months. We also had our Home Depot card on autopay, so they charged us the entire amount in the first billing cycle before I realized what was happening. After I fixed that, HD canceled our credit card. She said she did not know how to and that she couldn't help me. I went to the main part of the store and spoke to Orlando - he said it was not his section but he would find someone to help. As I went back out to the nursery I saw Justin who was happy to help once he finished assisting an elderly customer. He along with Jonathan got the crane and safely (flags and gates) got the pallet down so we and many other folks could get the soil we needed. HD has a well-crafted culture of incompetence from store manager Brock Grayson on down. They ignore even HD's national customer service line who repeatedly attempted to intercede on our behalf. No respect or courtesy even for high-volume customers. Some success with off-the-shelf purchases, and online, but any involvement with HD special orders involving local contractors is nightmarish. Spent $108,824.34 with HD in 2024 and 2025, but less than $1,000 in 2026. We now shop other retailers rather than face the frustration. read more

If you need a plumbing part, Mehrdad who often can be found in the plumbing aisle at Home Depot in San Rafael is the guy to go to! He is knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. He went above and beyond to find a coupling for my old power-washer. He pulled out a wire brush from his pocket to remove the buildup on the external threads of the coupling, and then found me the perfect connector. And, it worked!! It was the kind of service you would get at your neighborhood hardware store. Also, I wanted to mention the helpful and courteous check out assistants William and Renante. I had no idea what I was looking for and I asked him if he had the same exact thing which I was holding! He then quickly located exactly what I was looking for and gave me options on what to do for a charger and an alternative battery! when it came to the checkout, that's where my expectations fell short! They don't do Apple Pay and they need the physical credit card for me to check out! Definitely an inconvenience especially in California and with mask restrictions lifting up again! I talked to my boss a few minutes ago and he said just come back for the credit card instead of them calling from their line to verify that credit card member and the cardholder themselves! This is not a critique of the employees of Home Depot at any location, rather a critique of their phone directories and remote customer support. I've used Home Depot for carpet installation, door installation, patios and all. If you need to get anything done, I HIGHLY advise you to go in to a physical Home Depot, and take the time to wait for a Sales person to help you schedule measurements. I put a request in for measurement on June 15, and got an email on the same day confirming my request. The email also stated a representative would reach out within 72 hours... it's July 14 now so... I called the number in the email. The guy who answered was really helpful, even kept me on the line as he attempted to get me connected to the right person. We connected with my local Home Depot, who then told Jose (representative from Home Depot) he had the wrong number, and then we transferred to a different department. At that time, I got disconnected from Jose (super nice guy, none of this is on him) and sent to another person. They then gave me ANOTHER phone number to call (again, he's just doing his job, not mad at him at all). All of this, just for a less than 5-minute measurement of some doors. I hate leaving bad reviews on Yelp. Don't like being a Karen. If you're in Marin, get all your stuff done by local people. Not the best customer service at this Home Depot, but what choice do we have with no Lowe's in Marin, and Osh closed down on Andersen. Ace Hardware doesn't have all the stuff we need in one store. Too bad there's no Friedman's Home Improvement in Marin; they're only located in Sonoma & Mendocino Counties. I'm thankful this location is open during perilous times. They have the Covid-style shopping down with all the social distancing. Despite all the madness going on in our country right now, this store is open everyday, and no looters can get here. That's a good thing about Marin County, kinda hard to get onto this side, unless they swim over the freezing Bay with no Bart. And Marin has its own curfew on a regular day, most businesses close super early. Besides, what are they going to take from Home Depot i.e., tools, building materials, appliances, plants? My water heater died. I spent the weekend without hot water because apparently "emergency 24 hour" plumbers aren't actually interested in replacing a hot water heater on the weekend. It was an emergency to me. Wait, one quoted me starting price of $5400 and it would probably cost more sooooo. NO. I went online and saw Home Depot had same day installation if you call before noon. I called after noon, so I scheduled an appointment for the next day. They scheduled me as the first stop at 9 AM which I appreciated because I really don't like long cold showers. Water Heaters Fast got the request from Home Depot. The man called me twice to let me know his eta. Helpful since my husband and I both work from home, it doesn't mean we can just run to the door. Heads up is always appreciated to take headphones off and warn people you're in a video meeting you may have to disconnect. I really appreciate this courtesy. Old water heater removed, new water heater installed. Permit paperwork taken care of: less than an hour and not disruptive to our workday: $2500. It's tough to give my business to small businesses when a corporation like Home Depot can meet my emergency needs at half the price with immediate service. I am pro-small business but not at twice the price and waiting for the water heater to be ordered. What the what?!? Do with this what you will. I am writing to advise Marin County residents to never ever use Home Depot for flooring purchase and installation. Just now, three months after we first ordered Pergo and carpet (2nd floor, condo), we finally got our $6k refund. Here are the Cliff Notes on what happened to us when we tried: 1) The Flooring order didn't include delivery to the 2nd floor so the subcontractor (JW Flooring) showed up multiple times attempting to drop the heavy flooring in our driveway. The fact that this was a 2nd floor job (15 steps upstairs) was discussed throughout the ordering process but then we were told it was impossible. 2) Pergo was finally delivered to our 2nd floor weeks after the intended date but it turned out to be 1/3 incorrect Pergo (someone else's order) and insufficient Pergo for our order (so the installation couldn't begin, they said, for weeks). We tried to text, email, call and drop by the store to correct this but could not get ahold of anyone who could pick up the Pergo (see photo on left side for stack of wrong Pergo flooring). 3) Repeatedly, we tried to communicate with someone but the phone would ring at Home Depot with no one answering it. We tried to talk with someone in Flooring in person to find the employee had gone home sick. And no one in Customer Service (despite being nice) had the power initially to cancel the order, nor to issue the refund. 4) We tried to cancel the order on 8/29/24 but it wasn't confirmed for months, and only a fraction of the refund was made to the card on file. 5) The individual people were extra nice (Michael Law, Naomi, Ashley) but they won't likely last because the infrastructure and staffing are inadequate, and they will need to leave at some point from burnout or discouragement. Sorry to sound negative but Home Depot is seriously awful at Flooring, and we finally got our flooring installed through The Floor Store in San Rafael. Not cheap but you get what you pay for sometimes. Buyer beware. read more
