Pinkitzel is an adorable place with sweet and friendly staff. I'm wildly disappointed in the bakery quality. We tried a chocolate covered marshmallow, truffles, and a chocolate covered pretzel. Not one of them tasted worth the price we paid. They all tasted worse than what can be made at home. They clearly use the cheapest ingredients and then charge a premium price. Seriously, if I could review this place solely on it's adorableness, it would be 5 stars all the way. It's a pink explosion in here, cute as pie (cake?) and definitely a little girl's (or big girl's) dream. The layout, the displays, the decor, the selection -- all wonderful and fantastical. I could spend hours in here looking around and never get tired. I was in girly girl heaven. But of course, I have to say something about the cupcakes. My husband and I picked out four - red velvet, strawberry shortcake, chocolate truffle and salted caramel. They were small, individual cupcakes, which is a nice, less-guilty version of the ones I'm used to getting at the two cupcakeries back home. I don't always think you need to be over-the-top big just to be special. Good things come in small packages, right? Well, kind of. I absolutely loved my red velvet. The cream cheese icing was soooo good! Cake was moist. Devoured it (almost) whole. My husband's chocolate truffle was dry. So he was unimpressed. Plus there was a foil wrapped candy sitting on the top, which I disagree with. It should have been unwrapped (for those people who wouldn't realize, and pop the whole thing in their mouth). Next day we ate the other two. The strawberry shortcake was decent. Nice strawberry flavor with a strawberry puree (or something) in the center. The salted caramel one, however, was just ordinary. So our experience was hit-and-miss as far as the cupcakes go. But it wasn't enough to keep me out of this store in the future. Everything else being mad cute weighs down from five stars. Decor is an explosion of black/white/pink with accents that range from Bambi to Godfather. Name the print and you'll see it somewhere: polka dot, stripe, fleur de lis. Holla for the full Hello Kitty shelf, and half-shelf of bacon. Budget a good 20 minutes to peruse the inventory. I'm amazed they didn't have pixie stix to snort. Expensive but awesome accessories, savory/sweet gag gifts, cute tea party venue area in back. I had to find out myself. I've had cupcakes from L.A., Vegas, New York, Washington, Seattle, New Orleans, etc. and I haven't met a cupcake I didn't like. Well, Pinkitzel's cupcakes were a bit disappointing. I tried the red velvet, chocolate malt, salted caramel and cookies n cream. The cupcakes were moist but here's too much frosting. The cookies n cream cupcakes was waaaay too sweet. I just couldn't finish it. Out of the 4 flavors I tried, I did like the chocolate malt. It's a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting and a malt on top - the sweetness was tolerable. The funniest thing about it was that they expect you to pay $3+ for each mediocre cupcake. Why? I wanted to write a review regarding their delivery packages because I had nothing to reference before ordering and if I had, I would have just purchased items in-store and packaged them myself. I purchased the "Love Is In The Air Package" for $69.95. There was a $20 fee on top of it for delivery. The delivery was 5 miles from the Pinkitzel location and the packaging was lackluster. I expected a basket with cellophane, like most on-line gift baskets. It arrived in a bag with no ribbon or tissue-paper or other decorative touches. The contents were fresh and customer service and delivery were excellent regarding communication. I'll definitely be back as a customer, I just don't think this delivery package is worth $100. read more

Super cute place to take the kiddos! Yes there's plenty of candy, merch and cupcakes here. When you park in the parking lot, make sure you make it a point to go directly into the store- they have security manning the parking lot like a hawk and if you don't look like you'll be patronizing the businesses in that parking lot, they will not hesitate to tow your car. We bought a little candy (purchased by weight) and my daughters split a pretty looking cupcake and I had a macaron. The macaron was cold and it was likely just taken out of a freezer to be thawed. The cupcake looked pretty, but did not taste that great (I'm a cake snob though and prefer a cake to be moist and the frosting to have some flavor). Pinkitzel phones it in. It's like watching a teenager being forced to work a summer job by her parents who are hoping to teach her a lesson about... Something and... You know what, this is a terrible analogy. Start over. Pinkitzel tries to get by on the Disney-esque aesthetic, but the cupcakes are definitely lower-tier (and small) for this city. Also, it being located across the street from the Chesapeake Energy Arena means that me telling you that this place is average (on a good day) will make absolutely no difference to their bottom line. And good for them for managing to be successful while not having anything particularly good. I guess it's the same way that Toby Keith's I Heart This Bar & Grill is a thing that manages to succeed despite being something dreamed up by Toby Keith. Fornicate the haters (including me). You do you, Pinkitzel. Live the American dream. Get by on your well-planned, strategically-placed mediocrity. That aside, there's nothing special about them. And did I mention expensive? Because everything in here is that. None of it is particularly good either. I prefer Lolli and Pops. They're just as expensive as Pinkitzel, but at least they have some unique, and delicious confectionery offerings. Pinkitzel has three focused areas: (1) average (at best) cupcakes, (2) expensive truffles, and (3) meh saltwater taffy. Well four focused areas, if you include the overpriced puzzle games for children. But still, they have cupcakes. Which is better than... No cupcakes, right? I went to Pinkitzel on a Saturday, around noon. Due to Pinkitzel's location, which is right by the Cox Convention and Ford Centers, it may take some time to find parking if there is an event going on nearby. The moment I entered Pinkitzel, I was blown away by the decor, sweets, and knickknacks. The decor mainly consists of bright pinks, black damasks, huge horse statues, butterflies, and flowers. The sweets range from cupcakes, truffles, bacon gum to other "vintage" candy. As far as knickknacks went, Pinkitzel offered adorable puzzles, sewing kits, coloring kits, baby clothes, pinwheels, amongst other things. Also, you could order your cupcake and a drink (soda/water) and "eat in" at Pinkitzel. Plus, even though there are 2 sides where you can check out, this place was so busy that no matter which register I went to, I still ended up behind people. Due to how busy it seems and how fully decorated this place is, I honestly wouldn't bring little children who loves running around into Pinkitzel. They may bump into a statue or something and hurt themselves and/or others. Eventually, I got 1 strawberry cupcake, 1 chocolate caramel cupcake, and one peach truffle. Although I enjoyed their cupcakes very much (not too sweet and yummy toppings), the cupcakes were so moist that it kind of broke apart when I picked it up to eat. The truffle was delicious. Just celebrated my baby shower there on Saturday, and can not say enough wonderful things about this place. Not only is the place already decorated to perfection, but the staff was so helpful and on top of everything. So many people said how it was the nicest baby shower they'd ever been to. Not only does Pinkitzel have the most delicious cupcakes that come with the party package, but they provide nice to-go boxes for them to take with you. We were able to bring in our own deli trays and mimosa bar, which was wonderful. If you are looking for a place to celebrate an occasion, this place is exceptional. read more

After waiting forever to get 2 cupcakes and 6 macaroons, we somehow scored the last table. We had the peanut butter nutella and red velvet cupcakes and they were very moist and delicious!
